Our pride and joy – the climate controlled cellar – houses a considered and ecletic selection of wine. Focusing on the best examples of vintage, variety, style and region, it offers an extensive range from both the New World and the Old.
The menu is designed by Andrew McConnell and Colin Mainds to complement the wine. Whether it be a casual after work snack or the full affair – a stunning chef’s selection showcasing raw seafood, locally sourced produce like Macedon duck and O’Connor beef from Gippsland.
European in atmosphere, the space balances edgy luxe and familiar classic to gorgeous effect. Featuring parquet timber floors, the interior is warm and elegant.
We had a great night! Delicious, and the service was great. Thank you!
Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Some prices a bit exorbitant. What I loathed and felt a little bit ashamed of was the fact that not only is there excessive upselling but when I went to pay you now ask for tips and we have to push a button before we pay. Whilst I can appreciate fine dining, this is not America. I feel ashamed that this culture has even infiltrated your wonderful Australian band and was very taken aback that you were asking for more money for items that were already heavily marked up and already above the minimum wages standards so it remains questionable for the value for money. I will take caution when choosing to dine again.
Exceptional in every way! Looking forward to our next visit already.
Great ambience and spacious environment.
Excellent selection of red wines.
Food was of exceptional quality, although limited in choices.
Noise levels were acceptable, probably expected for a more casual dining.
Overall, highly recommend !!!
Wonderful from start to finish. Great service and simply amazing food.
Lovely experience, great food. Fantastic wine pairings. Great value for tasting menu topped off by fantastic service!
A wonderful space, gorgeous food and amazingly helpful staff. The foie gras waffle is a must!
Admittedly, I was trying to stick to a Keto diet, so I didn't immerse myself in all Cumulus had to offer, however what we did try was flavourful, well presented and fresh. The atmosphere was smooth, and would be great for small groups, or something more intimate :)
Beautiful food. Excellent wine. Great service. Great value. A rare mummies night out with the tasting menu was thoroughly enjoyed.
Enjoyed finding a city restaurant with novel cuisine.
Menu: Not sure the flank was the best choice; a little of that 'old meat' flavor coming through and less than tender, as we were warned by the waiter. Service from the waiter was remarkably attentive.
Must say the WBTG offering was pretty limited; compared with the full wine list.
A little alarmed when the chair allocated almost collapsed, which could have resulted in an injury.
Otherwise an enjoyable 2 hours with you all.
Food and service were fantastic. We had the “menu” which was well balanced and gave us plenty to eat.
The suggested wine perfectly complimented the meal.
Fantastic food and wine, as well as excellent digestif selection. Only downside was that all the hard surfaces in the restaurant make it very noisy while busy!
Great value for money. I love a short menu which allows you to combine and share and gives you the impression to have tried almost everything. Specially when every dish is a hit.
I booked but it was impossible to talk to a fried who has travelled a long way for a dinner and catch-up. so we left.
Nit much help at desk.
Won't go back.
A great restaurant for celebrations. The decor and round table are perfect for sharing conversations and food. The service was impeccable and friendly.
Cumulus Up is a lovely little hideaway in the heart of the bustling CBD. The dining room atmosphere is perfect for a rainy day, late-night and pre-theatre bite.
We loved our experience at Cumulus Up. I would highly recommend the chefs tasting menu, everything was absolutely delicious! The wine menu is very extensive... maybe a little overwhelming if you’re like me and know nothing about wine but the cheat sheet menu at the front made it easy to choose. The front of house staff were so lovely and friendly. The gentleman who waited on us was so enthusiastic, helpful and very kind. We don’t often have the previldge to fine dine so we were so grateful to feel so welcomed. I mentioned in our booking that we were celebrating an anniversary and they selected what I thought was one of the best tables, as it was more private than other spots, I really appreciated this. I loved Cumulus Up. and I will definitely be back!
Had a lovely dinner, great ambience and the pace was perfect, definitely not too rushed.
Had a brilliant night. Our waiter Chris was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable when it came to the food and paired wines.
Looking forward to our next visit in the not to distant future.
Food, service and lighting was 10/10 could not fault it.
Busy place. Service was good overall but had missed an entree - they were quite apologetic and comped the missing entree. Good food. Would be back.
Good food and drinks. Service was good, wait staff were friendly. Great for share plates with friends.
Our first meal in Melbourne at Cumulus Up was outstanding. We got the tasting menu with wine pairing, and our waiter selected wines to suit our taste, which was a lovely touch. Every course was delightful, with particularly impressive charcuterie, excellent duck and a particularly delicious chocolate dessert (apparently a special to celebrate the restaurant’s birthday). Very different vibe to the downstairs restaurant, this place is perfect for a special meal. Buzzing, but not too loud.
Don’t normally go to these places as I’m usually eating on the cheap but this is totally worth it once in a while for us! Friendly staff and amazing food!
Loved the celeriac it was superb, the flounder, heirloom carrots also lovely dishes
We came to Cumulus a couple of years ago and had a lovely dining experience which is why the two of us came back for my 65th birthday. The food, a feature last time, was very disappointing; just a bit above pub grub. The wine was lovely. Your staff were fantastic, friendly and efficient and obviously working very hard to keep up with their customers' needs
Cumulus Up is located above its sister establishment Cumulus inc as the name suggests. The interior is dimly for ambience which on a busy day exploring Melbourne can induce sleepiness. Their food however stimulates the taste buds and is full with subtle flavours. My friends and I had the chef's tasting menu for dinner. We were impressed with their charcuterie of spicy smoked salami and dried beef cuts. Dessert was the highlight of the night with the buttermilk panna cotta which was layered with amaro and citrus fruits.
Overall, our experience with the food and staff friendliness was great however there was quite a bit of dwell time between courses.
Highly recommended by friends. The space design and ambience was amazing! Initial service was great and then it fell throughout the dining experience. Food is amazing, wine wasn’t as good as expected.
Again Cumulus Up comes up trumps. A gathering before sporting event so had a number of diners from interstate. All were very impressed with the range and standard of food. Our waitress was brilliant and very accommodating and helpful in recommending various options. WE had the tasting menu but also able to include the lamb shoulder ( a favourite of ours).
Great service - exceeding our expectations ands wonderful food. Some impressed Melbourne visitors; we'll be back again. Thankyou
The service by both the people who greeted us was warm and friendly.Beautiful food with great flavours that Cumulus is known for. The standout was the panacotta with mandarin, OMG!! There were just some little things that let down the experience so overall i give it about a 4.5 out of 5.
I ordered the smoked octopus with olive and aoili, no mention of the potato that dominated the plate,if something fills up most of the plate-PLEASE-mention it, I've had this happen in other places and have had to pick things off the plate.
WE hand the Yarra Peaks Chardonnay which was lovely but I later discover that it retails for about $25 a bottle, so I think charging $15 a glass is way overpriced(yes i know this is where restaurants make their money ) but I found the same thing happens at Marion Wine Bar which is owned by the same people as Cummulus.
We were looking for a nice place to celebrate our anniversary on a quick trip to Melbourne. CumulusUp did not disappoint. The service was wonderful, the food was interesting and delicious and the wine pairings were spectacular. A minor thing that could have been done better: serving a lovely craft beer out of a can and not pouring into the glass, but all in all a fabulous night.
I highly recommend Cumulus Up. Whilst the menu was limited, what was on offer provided great value and the service was exemplary.
We had a table of 3 on Friday evening and chose the Chefs selection with pescatarian options. The staff were very accommodating, each course was delicious and I will definitely be back.
I came here for a date and boy was my date impressed. I usually am abit wary when I book a place for dinner with friends or for a date. However, cumulus up was amazing. All the dishes that we ordered was delicious. Amazing service and really good drinks! Highly recommend!
Wonderful food however the $75 per head chef selection left us hungry
We had an amazing night at Cumulus Up for our 20th Anniversary. The food was incredible, but the service and hospitality was even better. Big thumbs up recommendation from us. Thank you for making our night spectacular.
Great night. We loved the food and wine selection. The staff were superb in recommending based on our taste and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Excellent food and service. Very accommodating. Would have liked more desserts to choose from.
Was a little hard to hear the wait staff as the ambient noise was relatively high, not so noise you couldn’t hear each other talk an a table for two. The door was delicious, interesting, innovative and we’ll presented. The wine list is excellent and staff have excellent knowledge of what works with the menu. The only thing that was a little disconcerting was the tacky feeling of the table. When alerted the wait staff re-cleaned the table but explained that the varnish is likely to be the culprit rather than the table being dirty. Perhaps table cloths should be considered to avoid discomfort. That aside, Cumulus Up is an excellent choice and I will certainly be going back.
The food on the tasting menu was delicious and the service was very attentive. However, the absence of a well-informed sommelier was really noticeable, at least on the night we were there. This is remarkable, given the presence of the wine bar below. The waitress tried, but did not really know much at all about the wine (most of which were not familiar to us).
