CUMULUS INC. Eating House and Bar opened in 2008 in Melbourne’s famous art and fashion precinct, Flinders Lane. Celebrating the historic turn of the century rag trade building in which it is located, the space is a busy social hub offering Andrew McConnell’s acclaimed food.
The space, designed by Pascale Gomes-McNabb, is light and classic. CUMULUS INC. is open throughout the day, seven days a week, whether it be for a coffee, snack, drink or a meal. Breakfast until 11.30am is done simply; organic muesli or perhaps the Full English, with farmhouse slab bacon and smoked tomato. Lunch and dinner include dishes designed to share, charcuterie, oysters shucked to order, salads or the whole roast lamb shoulder.
The only thing I could comment on was that the waiters/waitresses did not come around to ask how we were going or if we’d like anything else and it was hard to grab their attention. But it was a busy night at the restaurant.
Other than that it was great
Over priced! Poor menu . In short a rip off. Not a place to go to for a pre - theatre dinner.
Our party of six had a superlative meal. This restaurant is a treasure and so worth supporting. Similar London restaurants are now doing home deliveries.
Delicious menu that definitely gives you value for money . Knowledgeable l, efficient staff - loves watching the kitchen go about their work. Would recommend the tomato and cheese dish, beautiful and fresh.
Had the chef's special - excellent food with excellent service. Even managed to find us a delightful table and let us stay as long as we wanted
Great food and well informed staff who are enthusiastic about helping you enjoy your experience
Amazing food, flavours all well balanced. I was a little disappointed about the service as there was only few tables dinning. But that will not stop me visiting again.
The noise and the commotion overwhelmed the good quality of the food.
Brilliant eatery. One of a kind. Never fails to impress. ALWAYS sit at the bar overlooking the masterful chefs at work.
Food was ok overall but not quite special enough to justify the price tag. My previous experiences were better.
I definitely expected more from this restaurant considering the hype, pretentiousness and cost of the food. Not a bad experience, just not sure it was worth it.
Expected to be seated at the bar, lovely surprise to be shown to a table.
Very attentive service, just right.
Great croquettes, loved the mozzarella and nectarine and the chicken was the juiciest we have had for years.
Expected 5 stars and got it.
An absolute pleasure. Beautiful food. Excellent night
You can always count on Cumulus Inc for high quality dining, great service and delicious food.
I have been to Cumulus many times for breakfast and a colleague recommended we try dinner. The low point for us was not being shown to our table and having to wait a good 10 minutes before we were seated as there were 'other things' that the front of house person needed to do?!
The food and wine were excellent but we were disappointed with dessert particularly as we had two madelines put on our table only to be taken away and given to another table near by and 10 minutes later our dessert came and it was only 1 small madeline, not really a dessert and at the very least there should be 2 per serve.
Have dined here a few times now and service was a let down this time, which is a shame. The food is always incredible, yet the waiter was unhelpful and lacked knowledge of the food and drinks.
Good food, lovely staff and excellent service. Would recommend the lamb and the red emperor.
Food was fantastic with great flavor a also some very interesting menu. Good service and nice place to be. Will definitely come back again to try out some other dishes in the menu.
One of my all time faves and I try to eat at Cumulus Inc every time I am in Melbourne. Make sure you sit at the bar in front of the kitchen and chat to the chefs!
Disappointing, menu limited and staff was not very experienced.
Fantastic place. Been here before and would come back again!
Although in an idyllic location and a beautiful space, we left very underwhelmed. The service was bad - the waiter was quite rude and unhelpful, but with the mindset of 'maybe he is having a bad day' we let that slide. However, we then had to wait until after our third plate of food and 10 minutes of trying to get someone's attention (and it wasn't that busy!) to get our first drink. The food was fine, but generally lacked flavour and when you have so many amazing choices in Melbourne, it didn't inspire us at all to go back.
Great service. Love the professional hospitality provided, immediately makes you feel like you’re at a top venue.
Can’t say the same about the food. Everything a bit plain, a bit boring. Good food but .. just good. Not amazing, not exciting, no wow factor. Consider the price point, there should be more.
Almost was tempted to give the oysters back, but considering how busy it was, I resisted. Probably the most saltiest thing I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. Zucchini, potatoes, gnocchi all prepared well, ‘signature’ lamb excellently cooked, however the sauce to match just added another level of boring to the really well cooked meat.
Food coming out extremely slow as well. I understand it’s a tiny kitchen and it’s extremely popular, but might be worth considering how long people are waiting in between dishes.
I love this restaurant, but the service on this occasion was off. It wasn't overly busy but our waiter was all over the shop. Even the other waiters were not on point. It really took the gloss of the great food.
Great service, reasonable and delicious
Flawless as always 😊
We loved the food but place was really noisy. Staff was nice but not very engaging.
We had a great night at Cumulus. We ordered the chefs selection. Food was great.
I absolutely loved dining at Cumulus. Cannot wait to repeat.
Beautiful food & excellent friendly service.
All of the recommendations from your staff in regards to food & wine were excellent. Made for a fantastic experience
Sat at the marble bench overlooking the kitchen. Gave me food envy but I can only fit a certain amount in. Shared plates were superb. A new experience in every dish. Fully recomended. Oh and did I mention the wine list?
Lovely food and tasty, well presented and some unique flavours. Some items I felt value was lacking. The real downfall was watching what seemed to be the head chef being inconsiderate and condescending to the kitchen staff (we were seated at the bench overlooking the kitchen), this was a real pit off for us and also for the staff that it was directed towards as they were visibly taken back.
Great food and drinks great service
Will definitely be back
Service was a little prickly - not sure if waiting staff were having a bad day. Acoustics were not good for a business luncheon - could not hear much with noise levels at lunch peak. Food was ok.
Excellent food and service. The staff will be more than happy to assist with wine pairings.
What an absolutely gorgeous evening, the food was magnificent, the selections they made for us were perfect. The wine list is comprehensive and reasonably priced. The staff are super lovely and very helpful. Will be back again soon
We all absolutely loved it. Such courteous staff and great service.
Only thing was that the portions were probably a tad smaller than we had anticipated so should have ordered a bit more food.
What a great restaurant. Fantastic food, impeccable service. A pleasure to pay the bill. Thanks. 👍🏻
Being a party of 2 we sat on the bench facing the kitchen. This was fine and we could watch - to a certain extent - the food being prepared - though a lot of the sauces are obviously made beforehand. We had the $75 ph tasting menu and it was good value - 4 courses and more than enough food. Homemade bread and olive oil too. They included the 'signature' slow cooked lamb but being summer i wish they had prepared something lighter.
Delightful food and dishes. Great atmosphere. Would highly recommend.
