Fans of Matt’s food won’t be surprised to see that our menus are led by vegetables and salads—shared plates of local produce, showcasing local farmers and producers—with plates of sustainable meat and seafood taking on a supporting role.
The name, Crofter Dining Room & Bar, refers to small landholders, tenant farmers in the Scottish Highlands, known as crofters. In the 1880s, “is treasa tuath na tighearna”—“the people are mightier than a lord”—rang through the glens and straths of the Highlands as crofters and small tenants fought for the protection of their rights. Crofter Dining Room & Bar takes inspiration from their passion for creating small-scale food systems and tight-knit communities.
just ok, nothing amazing, just ok, regarding food, ambience and service. the place feels like a fast food/ energetic beer hall, rather than a fine dining establishment.
Finally a place that does justice to the vegetables. This joint goes light on the meat while still giving you enough to satisfy any meat eater, but the real deal is the vegetables.
Modern English food that avoids the cliched roast beef and Yorkshire pud. Innovative ways with the veg that will have you smacking your lips. We had the feed me option and for the very reasonable price we got a very interesting array of food. You have to have the basil ice cream with the Eton mess kind of thing, the two are brilliant together despite what you might think. So save some room.
Combine that with a nice setting and run by staff that know what they are doing and get the balance between friendly and annoying.
Excellent wine list as well. We had a number of bottles and loved each one.
Can't speak highly enough about the place, food and staff.
Matt Wilkinson seems to go from strength to strength.
