Review summary

Côte Brasserie in Newcastle is celebrated for its "tasty" and well-presented dishes, complemented by a "warm welcoming atmosphere" and "friendly staff." Standout service by Aga and team ensures a memorable experience. The lively yet relaxed ambiance makes it ideal for family gatherings. Despite occasional service hiccups, the overall dining experience is "very good."

Party of 2, we booked very late and were a few minutes late owing to a typically tardy train. On arrival, service was prompt and we were shown to our table in what was a busy (though by no means very loud) restaurant. I had the steak baguette with frites and my sister went for a pasta dish that was surprisngly plentiful given it was from the light mains menu which was apparently excellent. I asked my steak to be done to medium well done and I may as well have asked for perfection because that was what was delivered. I've been a few times now and never had a bad experience, even during peak demand. The setting is great, the food is invariably great, the staff are lovely, and you are not deafened by music. Is it my favourite restaurant in Newcastle? Yes it is.

We were a family party of 7, from toddler to 90 in ages. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel that our every need could be met. (And they were) The ambiance was lively but also calm and relaxed enough to enjoy talking and being together. The food was delicious - everyone was happy with their choice. (Impressed with kids menu) The service was excellent. It was raining heavily when we left and there was no signal to call a cab and the maitre d’hôtel called one for us. It was a very enjoyable family meal out. Would highly recommend going here.

Food was tasty and well presented. It saved the day. However, service was chaotic and disjointed. There did not seem to be any system of staff allocated to tables. Aperitif arrived same time as wine. Starter and main course came about same time. Would not considering rushing back.

We had a mixed experience - food was lovely but the service was terrible. We were seated in the table area at the back without any other diners and were forgotten about. Waited ages to get served and even longer for drinks to arrive! Our starter never arrived but was put on the bill. Steak knives arrived after we’d almost finished. One steak had a side salad garnish, one didn’t. Trying to the bill adjusted afterwards was a farce. It’s a shame as the food that we did get was delicious.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, Laura. We’re pleased you enjoyed the food, but sincerely sorry that the service fell so far below expectations. The lengthy delays, missing starter and difficulties correcting your bill are certainly not the standards we strive for. We’ll ensure your comments are shared with the management team and hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future.

Food ok, some appeared to have been kept under a heat lamp for too long, slow service despite being empty.

When you step inside Newcastle Côte and Aga is your maitre d for the evening you just know it’s going to be special time! And last night was no exception. She really enjoys what she does and here warmth and joy is infectious. A big thank you to her and all the team for a memorable occasion for all the right reasons. We will be back very soon
