What Insiders Are Saying
Cosme is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Flatiron that’s much more approachable than it appears to be.
En mi opinión la relación costó producto es inadecuada
Fantastic! A must-go destination for the culinarily enlightened.
When I made the open table res, I stated we had someone with an onion allergy and would be looking for options around that issue. When we mentioned it to the server it was a surprise and he said there were almost no options for us. We got very little food for a lot of $$$. We did not get a welcoming feeling from our servers.
Excellent food, creative and deliciuos. Al the staff are very friendly.
For the first time in fifteen times the duck was over cooked. The bartender was distracted.
The place is nice but ridiculously expensive. It was $400 for 4 of us. The service was OK, but I found the waiters to have a bad attitude. Asking them to bring more tortillas was a chore. The tortillas they serve are delicious but they don't serve enough.
The Cobia al Pastor and the Duck carnitas were excellent. The Fluke Tostadas are not worth the price ($25 for 1 tostada). I would recommend eating here once. Would I go back? Probably not.
The food was delicious and unique and the service was perfect. But the food is so vastly overpriced that we had a hard time enjoying it. I won’t return.
Small food selection and small portion. Can use bigger plates to make dishes look more presentable.
Very nice staff , very chick ambient, awesome, authentic Mexican flavor and delicious food...highly recommended !
Way Overpriced for the amount and quality of food you get however it was a nice experience
Excelente!! Comida deliciosa. El tamal con ese color naranja de lo mejor que he probado.
A disappointment. It’s a shame that a restaurant that represents a culture that is recognized for excellent service under delivers this big....service was hostile, pretentious, and totally ruined the overall experience. Food was ok, some dishes good some others below average.
As all other reviewers have said, this is a unique take on Mexican cuisine. Flavorful and refined dishes, well prepared and plated. The service was somewhat disorganized and between the decibel level of the "music" and the tequila fueled conversations and laughter, the sound was way beyond the comfort level for enjoying the meal.
Extremely overrated. I think all of the positive reviews are bought. The food was bland, lacked any flavor (despite it being covered in heavy sauces). The duck was decent but everything else was unsatisfying. There’s many great restaurants by nyc, this is not one of them. Save your money and go elsewhere. Any person that I mentioned this restaurant to agreed.
We felt like we are rushed to finish and wanted out to free the table for the next seating.
It is not that level of restaurant that should do it.
It is not my first time there that I’m feeling that way.
Food is great, but great your guests in more respectful manner.
Food is amazing, a Mexican flavor with a very modern touch. Being a Mexican and having tasted many of these flavors locally, it was an incredible experience to taste such combinations. Dish presentations were really nice and the recommended house wine was really tasteful. Unfortunately, service was slow and I had to wait for my food for over 20 minutes. I believe this can be enhanced as the price is a little high. But overall, I highly recommend it, just take your time!
A differentiated dining experience with creative dishes, very good service, in an unpretentious environment.
I was expecting so much more...menu is very limited. Sorry to say, mole as a main course really doesn't do the trick...it should be "pollo con mole" or something similar. I realize COSME is the "in-place" at the moment; however, if things don't change it won't be for long. The food and wine list are also way over priced (even for NYC) ...
Amazing! We just love Cosme.
High quality food and service.
Waiter was slow and inattentive. Refused to reimburse us for a drink the bus boy took before it was finished.
We went on cinco de mayo, table was ready, the wait staff was super, they explained the menu perfectly. The food was OMG awesome and drinks were Outstanding. You won't be disappointed.
The food was very tasty but it wasn't a great value. The prices are crazy high -- $98 for a main course for 2 people to share; $30 for a tiny appetizer. Not sure we would come here again, but trying it once was worth it.
The highlight was the signature dessert, husk meringue with corn mousse, though I'd like to try it without the vanilla, which overpowers the delicate sweet-and-salty flavor of the corn mousse. Another standout dish was the crab infladita appetizer -- a fried, puffed-out tortilla filled with crab and topped with avocado mousse and edible flowers.
The duck carnitas (this is the $98 main course for 2) is another signature dish, and a quick scan of the restaurant showed that nearly all the diners chose to have it. The duck was expertly cooked and full of flavor, and there was plenty of it. No wonder this is their most popular dish.
The decor was our least favorite part of the experience. It felt cold and sterile (everything looked to be various shades of gray), really not what we expected. A Mexican restaurant, even a high-end one, should feel welcoming and cozy, and throwing in a few colors wouldn't hurt. Also, the tables were way too high. My hands were falling asleep from the awkward placement.
All in all, Cosme offers some amazing food, but taking into account the prices and the ambience, it's nothing to write home about.
Some dishes are great and some others are not...desserts are definitely not the best.
Great ambience and service. Amazing presentation of food but not great tasting! Had to send back two dishes and the $98 duck entree was dry! Don’t be late for a reservation as they pressure you to be completed with meal within 90 minutes of your reservation time Better to go have a fun drink at the bar instead of wasting hundreds of dollars for subpar food.
I found my experience last night at Cosme lacking in many ways. Although the food tasted mostly good, there seem to be a couple of cost cutting measures / revenue increasing measures that are noticeable and unfortunate.
With the cost cutting:
1. With the husk meringue, there was a quarter size portion of the corn mousse and the remainder was just whipped cream.
2. With the mole and leave, there was a dime size of nut butter at the bottom of the leaves. Literally barely noticeable.
And with the revenue increasing:
The restaurant also rushed us through the meal. The food came out so quickly the dishes were piled on top of each other and bussers aggressively tried to clear our plates when we weren’t even finished. We ordered around 6pm and had been served five items plus the duck carnitas in under forty-five minutes. I promise you we eat quickly, but this was just about turning the table. The check was presented without us asking for it.
All in all just a factory style operation. We’ve been to Cosme many times and dined at Pujol earlier this year, and this experience definitely felt a lot more like business and one we would not return to.
Un menú poco comprensible y no muy bien explicado en cuanto a la posibilidad de compartir platos o no.
Demasiado ruido y excesivamente caro.
30 for a fish sauce with some radishes? May as well ask me to contribute to the rent and the owners pocket - would feel better about myself if I did that. This place is a great example of what stinks about New York City. Maybe I should just not travel so that I can feel these types of places are actually offering some sort of experience. Very very poor.
Une belle arnaque !!
Cosme is a great option for innovative and fun Mexican food. It combines traditional ingredients with innovative techniques and presentation. My only down side is that the portions are rather small, so don’t go hungry. The flavors are assured and the service is great. So all in all well worth it.
Amazing experience. The food was outstanding and our waiter Armando went to great lengths to explain it to us. My only caution is to be careful ordering some of the better Tequilas and Mezcals as the bill can escalate dramatically. I will certainly return - a very unique and special place
Literally the worst service I’ve ever had. We couldn’t even understand what our waiter was saying and he was rude and dismissive. Someone told us Cosme was over hyped but I couldn’t imagine it would be that bad! Sorry normally I am not so harsh with ratings but we were pretty blown away. Food was decent and very creative but not worth it in terms of service and price. The fact they think they are so cool that they don’t need good service put us off.
The food was amazing! Great customer service!
Another hyped up place. Way too expensive for what it is. Food was just OK. Had much better food in cheaper restaurants. Service was good though even though waiter accidentally gave us a bill $100 more expensive and then self corrected the mistake when he saw I was inspecting the bill (which I normally never do). Was still $280 for 2 and it wasn’t worth it. Left feeling ripped off, should have bought 2 pairs of sneakers for that price - won’t come back.
Excellent food, especially the duck carnitas.
Service was good, a bit noisy, don’t miss the wonderful Mexican coffee! Terrific desserts!
Hey, Enrique Olvera, que pasa? My outrage at the cost of this meager meal propels me to sound the alarm. $400 for 3 people who did not order main dishes? One $65ish bottle of wine, a few doll sized plates including a $30+ puddle of mole served w. lettuce and tortillas? 6 radish slices in a smidgeon of sauce for $23+? Startling! And the service? The waiter retired a wine glass before it was empty and slapped our fat bill down after only 45 minutes. Food was tasty but I just feel rooked. Because I am a CDMX súper fan, especially so. If Pujol, and it’s simpler sister El Molino, are celebrations of an extraordinary cuisine, Cosme is a parody of it. Me insultas!
We had a lovely time. The service was right on. The cocktails - the striptease- and others were excellent. The food - the sauce was to die for and with fresh ingredients expertly prepared - we enjoyed every dish. we'd love to come back.
The tamale was to die for. Food is very good and the presentation of the plates is beautiful. My only negative comment is that service was a bit too slow.
Completely overpriced!! Almost no chicken in the chilaquiles which was one of the least expensive things on menu- basically a bowl of chips soaked in green salsa- tasty but put some protein in it- how much does a few strips of extra chicken cost??. Drinks $19 for a cocktail at brunch- ridiculous.
Limited menu. Everything expensive.
Very pretty space with nice vibe and decent food but c’mon!
