Coombe The Melba Estate
Located within the restored motor house and historic clock tower and under the helm of Chef Neil Cunningham, our restaurant serves Contemporary Modern Australian a la carte menu options.
An inspiring selection of seasonal and estate grown produce is on offer for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea 6 days a week.
The restaurant is modern, spacious yet intimate and overlooks the landscaped market-style courtyard of the beautifully restored facilities. The view from the conservatory is of the Coombe cottage garden ‘avenue’ and gives glimpses of the oldest swimming pool in Victoria.
This venue has great staff to take care of you, and the food is excellent
The plate of lamb shoulder was too much for the two of us, and the side dishes were enough for four people.
The only regret with the food was that the plate the lamb was on was cold, and it cooled the lamb down too quickly.
Well worth the visit though.
Love coming to this Restaurant the whole estate is charming elegant and just beautiful ❤️We had my 60 th lunch with a big group two years ago and it was Fantastic service wine 🍷 food the day/ afternoon was faultless!!!!!
We come as much as we can and bring friends and family along to share the experience. Wine tasting and shop is a Must too..... plus I recommend the jam.....hand wash and cream....OMG......try yourselves and see what I mean. Peach melba jam a must!!!
Greta value for money with excellent quality food , service & wine
An historic location beautifully renovated & updated
Enjoyed as usual, but disappointed as the menu states Peach Melba. This is not what the original recipe created by Escoffier for Melba. Disappointed as 3 guest at our table ordered this dessert. I suggest you put on the menu variation of or serve the correct version
Was a birthday gift very much appreciated service excellent food excellent recommend
Coombe Farm restaurant is the go to restaurant in the Yarra Valley wine growing region. The wine list is limited but that is not an issue as there is an Estate Wine for every dish. Service was exceptional and as regular visitors we can confirm that it remains at this high level.
Finally the food - reflects the best of modern Australian and the many influences from our varied cultural cuisines. The use of as much local produce justifies the pricing which is great value for money.
The spammer crab and wild rice dish was tasteless, the lamb was delicious but the peach melba was a chemical substitute that tasted fake and unappealing.
Big dishes, good quality and presentation. There were 5 people and we ordered different dishes. All felt very full.
I've been there a few times and it's great restaurant and serve good food. It's a very enjoyable and relax environment.
Beautiful setting and nice ambient.
Waiter was attentive even had to wipe up spilled water Food was good. The duck breast in the starter was a tad over done but my wife's kingfish was very good. There was nothing wrong with the lamb but once eaten we wished we'd chosen something more 'foodie'. I wasn't impressed when a bottle was emptied into my glass which was then topped up by the start of a new bottle. We enjoyed the crusty potatoes but, looking around the room, realised they were overcooked.
We went to Coombe for our daughter's 19th birthday. The venue is stunning, the service fabulous and the food/wine was lovely.
Would highly recommend (in fact already have) for a lovely lunch experience.
Next time we will go for high tea and a tour of the estate.
Thanks to all for making the effort to help celebrate the birthday also.
My husband and I dined at Coombe on New Years Eve.
We were gifted a voucher from our children and were thoroughly delighted
with their choice.
A very charming restaurant,nice and spacious,with attentive staff,we enjoyed
Been a number of times, doesn’t disappoint, great food, friendly service. A lovely spot for lunch.
From the warm welcome to the excellent service, Coombe truly complements the fine food with all that's needed for a wonderful dining experience. Thank you so much for a magical Sunday afternoon.
Good choice of food - menu choice thankfully limited. Lamb roast for 2 will satisfy even the biggest appetites. Fish dish very tasty. Dame Melba tiramisu delicious and colourful. Great wine from estate.
From entering Coombe, the warm welcome received and shown promptly to our table (as booked), the great service and excellent quality of food we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience and will have no hesitation returning.
Food quality excellent, outstanding presentation.
Attentive wait staff.
Delicious food beautifully presented in a lovely venue. Attentive staff. Booking experience easy.
The ambiance was great, the service great and the food great. What else does one expect from a fine dining establishment !
I just love this restaurant and no matter how many times I’ve been there,I can never fault it - it’s just perfect!
More than just a restaurant, great service and excellent food and wine.
Beautiful food and great service. I chose this place as it is large and spacious, and wanted somewhere quiet for a weekday lunch. The window-side tables have great views but the as these fill first they are still a bit noisy (due to the glass I guess) if you are near a table of excitable diners. I am tired of deafeningly loud restaurants.
We had a lovely lunch at Coombe Estate. The menu is not huge but there is something for everyone. The food was excellent and the presentation was beautiful. Wait staff were very attentive and polite and well informed of the menu ingredients and offered wine pairings with the courses. All in all a very pleasant place to have a special meal in lovely surroundings. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
The food at Coombe is amazing! The flavours in every dish were incredible. We had an amazing lunch on a Saturday! The restaurant has a great atmosphere and staff make you feel spoiled! Thank you!!
Fabulous lunch experience. Greeted at the door by the loveliest staff member. She acknowledged our very elderly mum on her walking frame and gently took her to a delightful table by the window. Wonderful menu and great value re 2 course Orion for lunch. Beautifully prepared seasonal produce with stunning Coombe Farm wines. The wait staff were friendly and so professional and so welcoming. Our elderly mum at 98 loved her beautifully prepared pork loin and then enjoyed a stunning peach Melba.
The food was delicious. Plenty of it. The service was perfect and everyone was friendly. The tour was great and we felt that we were transported to another world. Would definately recommend Coombe Cottage
We came for afternoon tea. The dining area was spacious, calm and pleasant and service was prompt and courteous .
Very expensive for what you get and food was average.....lacked flavour. $176 for 2 people for lunch I would expect something really good. The service was also second rate. I think it lives off the reputation of Dame Nelly Melba’s prior residence. I would not return to this restaurant but highly recommend visiting the region.
We dined with an overseas visitor, and believe me your lamb was better than Irish lamb
I love the ambience and history of the Coombe Estate. We did the garden tour which was wonderful, getting a bit of history and insights into Dame Nellie Melba the person. Also, the roses and lavender were in bloom. The kookaburras flying overhead and perching nearby was a bonus. Lunch afterwards was lovely, with good choices, fresh seasonal produce and flavoursome, well presented food. Coombe Estate pinot noir was divine.
We have never been disappointed with Coombes - love their lunches, have enjoyed the weddings we have been to & now have fallen in love with their afternoon high tea. Great food, wine, bubbles & staff.
Went for a Birthday food was good place good service dreadful had to keep asking for service
Restaurant and surrounding buildings presented well.
Glass on three walls overlooking the adjacent gardens creates a light and airy atmosphere.
Soft music playing in background added to appeal.
The shared lamb shoulder was just fantastic accompanied with the chat potatoes.
Deserts finished the meal off admirally.
Delectable, considered meal. Lovely views, unobtrusive service and high quality experience. Highly recommend.
Staff were unorganised and disinterested. Staff appeared to have trouble to work out bookings and payments. Scones were lovely, wait staff were pleasant and helpful. Coffee was terrible, but tea was lovely. Unfortunately due to the weather we didn't do the tour, but were offered a refund instead. During the online booking the site asked for special instructions, where I noted that both guests attending are Gluten Free and Lactose Free, neither of these things were catered too.
A very nice meal, with very attentive staff.
Great flavours present’n & service, beaut setting
A lovely Sunday lunch spot ... the food is fantastic and the wait staff very professional. The menu is a bit limited, but the quality of the food makes up for it.
The service was excellent. The staff were smiling all the time and only to happy to assist when needed. The food was delicious, really I couldnt fault it. I loved the surroundings and general environment of the cottage. It would be ideal for a wedding in my opinion. The toilets were clean and well kept. The sparkling wine I was served was perfect! Only criticism was the cost of the mineral water at $18 per bottle I felt this was overpriced. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
