Coombe The Melba Estate
Located within the restored motor house and historic clock tower and under the helm of Chef Neil Cunningham, our restaurant serves Contemporary Modern Australian a la carte menu options.
An inspiring selection of seasonal and predominantly estate grown produce will be on offer for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea 6 days a week.
The restaurant is modern, spacious yet intimate and overlooks the landscaped market-style courtyard of the beautifully restored facilities. The view from the conservatory is of the Coombe cottage garden ‘avenue’ and gives glimpses of the oldest swimming pool in Victoria.
We had a lovely high tea for my birthday. Attentive staff, unlimited (quality) sparkling wine and beautiful food. Highly recommended.
Always a treat to head to Coombe as we are residents of the Yarra Valley. Food and service are always exemplary so we return at least once a year because of the consistency. Even on a wet miserable winter's day the ambience is warm and friendly and the garden and hedge views outside the windows are amazing. Highly recommended for families with celebrations.
A spectacular spot for lunch and a wonderful meal. This was the treat we both needed and we will bring our families next time.
Lovely afternoon tea and catchup with girlfriends.
I should have booked a house tour before but was able to visit a winery and dairy en route so it topped off an enjoyable day in the Yarra Valley.
We went to celebrate my mother’s 73rd birthday. Just right for all.
It was the first time my partner and I had been here, it had been recommended to us. We did a wine tasting first which was lovely, and then went in to lunch.
It's a beautiful building and the staff were very friendly and super efficient. The food was delicious and served so fast. Both the staff on the cellar door and the staff in the restaurant were open, warm and friendly. The whole experience was fantastic.
Frnt desk staff are super friendly and helpful. The lamb shoulder for 2 is a must. Tender and tasty and more than enough for two.
Fantastic food and very friendly and helpful staff
The lamb dish is amazing but you only need 1 serve for three people
Food and Service whilst at the Cellar door and inside the restaurant was great. However the hostess with the bun and green scrunchie was very condescending to my friends and i on arrival. There was no need for her attitude, especially when were being friendly and happy, as it was our friends birthday. She was nice when we were paying, but the whole arrival and "welcome" was very off-putting.
As always, we had a magical experience at Coombe. Superb food and wines, superlative staff and beautiful ambience in the restaurant with views of the Melba estate. What more could you ask for?
The grounds and original buildings are amzing. It was so fantastic after all these years growing up in the outer east and driving past this location, to finally see behind the secret hedge. The food and wine were some of the best we have ever had. The cellar door staff went above and beyond and made you feel nothing was too much to ask. I can not wait to come back soon for a full tour and maybe high tea
A lovely place to have lunch. Great ambiance, beautiful outlook and great food and service.
It was our anniversary and We went with our two boys, the restaurant is extremely kid friendly. They got two activity packs which kept them occupied and we were able enjoy
The restaurant ambience is very nice with large windows right round
Food was fantastic would recommend to anyone who want to get away and have a nice meal with good wine
The venue and service was spectacular! We found the food tasty, but for the morning tea it was actually quite heavy with most of the items pastry based, so it was a little repetitive. Good value for money though and the staff were brilliant, even agreeing to swap out the glass of bubbles for another hot drink as we don’t drink alcohol, very customer focused! The grounds were stunning, it’s just a pity it rained when we visited, will have to go back again to explore more!
I have been meaning to go to Coombe with girlfriends for a special occasion for quite some time and I was pleased with the experience we encountered
I was really looking forward to the visit, but left feeling the experience average, which was disappointing. Service not great, in fact our table was largely ignored, especially with water. Whilst food was delicious, quite expensive for what was received. Our booking was for a special birthday, but was somehow left wanting.
2 course lunch special and had good reviews. We very much enjoyed our lunch.
My daughter gave us a voucher for Christmas so we took whole family and it was a very special lunch as it was our 40th Wedding Anniversary the food and service where excellent we will definitely be coming back again.
very busy but it was sunday lunch, fish was a little overcooked but mostly meals were good and served in a reasonable time. Had a better experience when having lunch during the week
Great place for family lunch. Relaxing and great view
Wonderfull food, good service. Great all round. Only complaint was the noise level very high.
Loved it and REALLY appreciated the noise control in such a big space.
Attended High Tea - very enjoyable
Sweet items delicious however would have preferred a few more savoury items for better balance
I've been wanting to come here for years and decided to book in for the High Tea on our Wedding Anniversary.
We had the best time. It is beautiful and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
The high tea was delicious and the sparkling was beautiful.
My children even got their special own high tea and we're made to feel included and important.
We had the best day and look forward to coming back.
The food was sparse on the plate and average. It was totally overprices and you needed to pay for vegetables separately to the cost of the main. No flexiblity on the weekends as only offered a two or three course option - my Mum wanted one course and I said I would pay for just that at any price they deemed but they would not allow it. I
Beautiful location, super attentive staff. Definitely got our money's worth food wise. Be prepared to pay for all guests when you book online though - that was unexpected!
Perfect dining for a special event with my daughter.
exceptional food nice atmosphere and friendly service on a day when the weather was not great imagine it would be delightful on a sunny day in spring
Amazing as always!
Booked a table for 10 of us for a family birthday lunch. Rarely do we get to go to nice restaurants without having to take on a set menu (as we are 10) but Coombe enabled us to order all from the menu. The ambience was lovely with gorgeous steel black framed windows everywhere we looked allowing lots of natural light and views onto the trees and gardens. We all enjoyed our meals and will happily come back.
Always have an amazing experience when I visit this beautiful spot. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
Winter menu is great. Local beers are a must try.
The mains that had were of a very good portion, however they were not hot when they arrived at the table.
Took my here for morning tea. Had an absolutely great time. Great service, great food, great value for money. Was even allowed to our leftovers home.
My friend & I enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea @ Coombe Cottage. Due to a miscommunication glitch we were expecting to have High Tea but as it was a Friday this was not on offer. However we were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne each and a selection of what was on offer from the afternoon menu which was all delicious & beautifully presented. Staff were efficient & friendly. The restaurant itself whilst large & open was not overly noisy. A lovely place for that special occasion.
Three of us had lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. The booking process was simple, the venue awesome but the food and the service simple also. That is simply the best. The menu was able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements but my one complaint would be after we spoke about no onion for one person, the first dish had onion all through it.
I booked for what I thought was high tea. When we got there there was no table set for our party of 5. When seated we were given a desert menu??? When we queried this was told that we had booked for afternoon tea and they don’t do high tea on Sunday’s during wedding season!!! Desert was all sweet and wee were not given an option on anything else until the manager came over and explained what was happening and offered us some alternatives. The food was good, and the scones were yummy.
Beautiful food, very friendly service, lovely venue - I’d recommend Coombe!
Yes we had a lovely lunch and would recommend it to others
This is a restaurant a must for any occasion. I consider it a hidden gem in the heart of the Yarra Valley, excellent food of fresh produce and the wide range of Australia wines. The staff members were friendly and efficient. Love the rustic and modern decor with high beaming ceilings. Overall, the whole Estate ambience is inviting and warm.
