Coombe The Melba Estate
Located within the restored motor house and historic clock tower and under the helm of Chef Neil Cunningham, our restaurant serves Contemporary Modern Australian a la carte menu options.
An inspiring selection of seasonal and predominantly estate grown produce will be on offer for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea 6 days a week.
The restaurant is modern, spacious yet intimate and overlooks the landscaped market-style courtyard of the beautifully restored facilities. The view from the conservatory is of the Coombe cottage garden ‘avenue’ and gives glimpses of the oldest swimming pool in Victoria.
Winter menu is great. Local beers are a must try.
The mains that had were of a very good portion, however they were not hot when they arrived at the table.
Took my here for morning tea. Had an absolutely great time. Great service, great food, great value for money. Was even allowed to our leftovers home.
My friend & I enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea @ Coombe Cottage. Due to a miscommunication glitch we were expecting to have High Tea but as it was a Friday this was not on offer. However we were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne each and a selection of what was on offer from the afternoon menu which was all delicious & beautifully presented. Staff were efficient & friendly. The restaurant itself whilst large & open was not overly noisy. A lovely place for that special occasion.
Three of us had lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. The booking process was simple, the venue awesome but the food and the service simple also. That is simply the best. The menu was able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements but my one complaint would be after we spoke about no onion for one person, the first dish had onion all through it.
I booked for what I thought was high tea. When we got there there was no table set for our party of 5. When seated we were given a desert menu??? When we queried this was told that we had booked for afternoon tea and they don’t do high tea on Sunday’s during wedding season!!! Desert was all sweet and wee were not given an option on anything else until the manager came over and explained what was happening and offered us some alternatives. The food was good, and the scones were yummy.
Beautiful food, very friendly service, lovely venue - I’d recommend Coombe!
Yes we had a lovely lunch and would recommend it to others
This is a restaurant a must for any occasion. I consider it a hidden gem in the heart of the Yarra Valley, excellent food of fresh produce and the wide range of Australia wines. The staff members were friendly and efficient. Love the rustic and modern decor with high beaming ceilings. Overall, the whole Estate ambience is inviting and warm.
Beautiful afternoon tea with attentive staff amidst lovely surrounds but too noisy for my 92 year old aunt, thank you for the Dame Nellie Melba room.
Fantastic place to have Sunday Lunch as thank you to friends
This restaurant provides a welcoming atmosphere and ambience followed by great service and great food. We will be back and will e recommending this restaurant to anyone looking to dine in the Yarra Valley.
Could not recommend the staff, wine and food higher. The ambiance was fantastic and the views of the surroundings perfect.
quiet pricy meal for one dish which did not have much on plate. restaurant and service good. view lovely. unless one wants to order 3 course meal with extras i would not go there.
We were celebrating the 84th birthday of my mum, and we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our lunch time experience at Coombe.
Mum commented later that it was the “best meal she had ever had”! High praise indeed!
The food was delicious, the wines divine, ambience perfect for us, and the young woman who waited our table was just superb!
Altogether a perfect choice for our celebration.
We were impressed by the menu and will definitely return to sample other selections.
Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and scrumptious, beautifully presented food.
The food was good although the service was slow and our Octopus entree came out cold and only had a few pieces of octopus. However, our Barramundi mains were cooked perfectly and hot but required sides.
The staff were very friendly and their service was excellent, the food was delicious and well presented.
Excellent staff and food
We had a lovely day food was lovely atmosphere was even better. Service was exceptional will be coming back . 😀
I lunched here with friends for a special birthday and it was a wonderful day and the food and service are 5 star. I highly recommend
I particularly liked the ambience and the service. The food could have been far more innovative. it could have included more vegetarian choices.
the steak was cooked to perfection. sides were "much of a muchness"
The experience was disappointing, we first dined at Coombe several years ago when it first opened as a restaurant, it was then exceptional. The food service and ambience were fantastic. Not so now, the waitresses were inappropriate in joining in our conversation. Tried to hurry us. The food was ok, but the scones were cold and hard, for example. I would not recommend this restaurant again.
The staff were extremely friendly and very obliging.
The food was plentiful and certainly delicious.
We shared gnocchi, green beans and very crispy potatoes. There was even food leftover.
A lovely place to visit and next time I'd like to visit the gardens.
Upon arrival we were greeted with a complimentary glass of sparkling; nice touch. Food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. Staff were attentive; just took a little while for menus to arrive. Overall a lovely lunchtime experience at this historic property.
My steak was dry. Next to our table 2 more people said the same.
No fresh green salad🙁 no great variety of roasted veggies.
Vegetarian dishes ?
Quantity was ok of the food we ordered.
The wine we tasted first was unpalatable, would not recommend it and it contains too much sulphites or preservatives, had a bad headache.
Very unimpressed with the quality of 4 reds.
Staff was friendly enough although appeared a bit blazee.
Overall not impressed with the food at all, not even the Melba desert.
Excellent experience at your restaurant. Had a wonderful day. Food was delicious and service impeccable. Great value for money in such a beautiful space.
Beautiful setting, friendly and helpful staff and delicious and beautifully presented meals.
Staff were amazing, we requested a close table as two people with walking aids, helped us to no end. Food was brilliant and service 2nd to none, a very busy day but plenty of staff on to cover all tables needs
To be honest I was disappointed. We had the high tea. The only savoury item were sandwiches and unfortunately they had been made earlier and the bread was very dried out.
The cakes and scones were nice.
I think it would be good to have a couple of other savoury items.
Lovely family outing.
Food was fantastic ‘
Staff were great too
Don’t change as most restaurants do
Keep to al a cadre don’t do degustation !
If u so wil never come back
Loved this place - away from the hustle and bustle of suburbia or the city. The surroundings were beautiful. It was a special place to go for my milestone birthday. I felt really pampered. The food looked and tasted delicious. Not being big meat eaters, my friend and I found the perfect dishes for entree and main, but if we weren't tempted by those, we would have struggled to find something else suitable, as there weren't many vegetarian options. Overall, however, it was wonderful.
Although there was adequate amount of staff, they were not very attentive. No one came to take our order having to flag them down each time when ordering drinks and then food. Not very impressed considering the amount your paying.
very relaxing, special place to share food and memories
We had the garden tour before lunch. Excellent guide, gardens being developed but we're still very good to see, weather was great making it better, would be great when flowering. The lunch that followed was very tasty, the room very comfortable with good views of the trees, the staff were efficient and pleasant. Would consider going back.
Coombe Estate is wonderful every time. For lunch or high tea - it's a must do in the Yarra Valley. Staff are always amazing and the food - scrumptious!
I and my 2 friends thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch. The service was exceptional, friendly and fast. The main courses (roasted Barramundi & Lamb shoulder) were both delicious. The only complaint would be that the dining hall is so large that the voices of the diners make such a din so as make conversation, both with the waiting staff and companions difficult
Love the 'Story ' and history that comes with the setting, lovely special setting without feeling snobish
Value was good considering setting
I brought some friends to Coombe for a special Birthday celebration and was not disappointing. The wait staff were attentive and patient, food terrific and best of all, they were happy for our group to sit and really enjoy the afternoon without making us feel rushed. We loved our time here and will return later on in the year for a High Tea.
