We have always enjoyed the ambiance and the food here, and enjoy going when on this side of town. Our last time here we hope was an anomaly all around because it was not good. The waitress was good. The food was not. Mashed potatoes with the steak were actually cold (plate itself was hot.) we went specifically for the Mac n cheese which used to be a delicious bubbly baked entree. This visit, it was served like an afterthought- a few noodles mixed with sauce on a plate. It was a $120 disappointing lesson learned. The waitress actually brought up accommodating part of our bill because she even felt bad at what she was serving. We still made sure to tip her adequately because the food quality was not her fault. If we try it again, will definitely order something less expensive.
Server, Kelly was fantastic. She was honest with her assessment of certain dishes and took the time to go to the people in my party who are older and a bit hard of hearing, instead of shouting across the table. The mac and cheese was amazing but I would have liked an option to have some sort of vegetable(broccoli, zucchini, etc) or a salad with it, the Cuban Reuben was made to the specifications requested. Kelly put a special note on the Philly cheesesteak and checked before bringing it to the table to make sure it wasn't too well done and dry. The pork chop special was huge, enough for lunch the next day. I chose to be seated closer to the fireplace in the dining room for those who are always cold in our party. It was very nice but the crowd in the bar was was very loud and distracting. There are plenty of tvs to monitor whatever sport is going on and those were at a reasonable level and did not disturb a regular conversation at the table. Overall we had good time and the food was delicious.
Service was great. Atmosphere was a little noisy but quaint. The tacos were terrible. The gin tonic was watered. I would not recommend the restaurant until I visit again.
It was an amazing dinner and atmospheres. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
I had the house made tater tots filled with bacon and cheese. I've had them before and mainly go to City Tavern for these specifically. They're more of a mashed potato consistency inside... so good!! our table also ordered the buffalo chicken wing dip and soft pretzels. Both were good.
For my dinner I had a pizza that was good. One friend ordered the chicken French. If you're expecting traditional chicken French you will be disappointed as she was. The sauce was thicker and creamier and the flavor wasn't typical of chicken French. I tried a bite and didn't think it was terrible... but just not what you expect. Third person had a burger. He liked it but said it was really messy and kept slipping out of the bun. Fourth person had the mac n cheese which was really good.
The acoustics were so loud when we arrived. A couple of larger parties in the same room and everyone was competing to talk and hear over one another. Once they left it was a bit better. I don't know why more restaurants don't take acoustics into consideration when designing their space.
All in all pretty good but a bit over priced.
Made reservations for 4 at the last minute on a Friday nite. Arrived less than 20 minutes later and our table was ready in the bar area, perfect. Service was very good and was our drinks and entrees.
The meal, although decent, was extremely overpriced.
Always great service and excellent food Would highly recommend a reservation once we get into the fall and winter months
My husband made reservations on open table to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived, we gave the hostess our name and number in our party. She didn’t seem to register the information but quickly asked if we wanted outdoor or dining room. We chose dining room, recalling our previous visit a few years back when the restaurant first opened. Unfortunately, the dining room has been updated with tv screens around the walls in every direction. Our server came over quickly. Jordan did an excellent job, and was the bright spot in the whole experience. The salmon special sounded delicious but at $28 I avoided it. It was quickly becoming apparent I was in a sports bar-not where I order salmon. Our appetizers were mediocre, typical pub food. Entrees were fine, but a $14 Reuben seemed pricey.
The final insult was a follow up email from open table informing me we failed to show up for our reservation. In hindsight, we should have known since the reservation was made for a birthday celebration and no one ever mentioned it.
I will not return to City Tavern again. ☹️
Vegetarian pizza and mule were delicious! Comfortable dining experience,
Very nice dinner with family. Menu gives lots of options and everyone was happy with their meal. Our server was very attentive and helpful. Overall, great time!
City Tavern is a great place to have an intimate dining experience. The staff was outstanding: courteous, attentive, and accurate. Great food too.
Great food. We had a good time. Waitress was excellent.
Great place to go with a friend or kids. Food is good -especially the pizzas. TV screens on a variety of channels have something for all. Pleasant atmosphere and fireplace is cozy.
Food is overpriced and didn’t taste good. Waitress wasn’t busy but still took long time to wait on us or check in. Prob won’t ever go back.
My server, Kelly, was very attentive. She had great suggestions, the food was good, and the drinks even better.
The service & food was terrible. The waiter did not come & check on us,nor ask how the food was. There were flies . The nachos were hard & stale.
Overall good but the two people in our party who had burgers had them over cooked. One out of the two had a burger that was completely burnt on the bottom. Everyone else’s food was good.
First time trying City Tavern. I had heard good reviews from a coworker. We went for Father's day. We had a reservation for 4 @ 5pm. We were seated promptly. Not many there. Server started out ok, but as crowd slowly grew service went down. Although, it was much less of a crowd than most places on a holiday. There wasn't a wait. I ordered the flat iron steak and shrimp and so did my husband . My steak was overcooked and the shrimp were cold and looked and tasted half raw. The meal was supposed to come with a baked potato but was served with fries with no explanation. When I inquired I was told they were out of baked potatoes would I like another side instead. My husband's food was not much better, fortunately he will eat a well done steak with steak sauce. Thank goodness for A1. We ordered dessert to go, the Dirty Vegas, large chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. We had two orders and both cookies were inedible. They were burnt and had a greasy taste. Our kids said their food was ok, cheese pizza and a cajun chicken sandwich. The manager did try to make it right. By the time the waitress checked on us again after we received our food, my children had finished. They took my meal off the bill and gave us one free dessert. I left there over $100 broker and still hungry. Maybe their bar food is ok, just not steak, shrimp or desserts. Will not be trying again any time soon, if ever.
We had an outstanding time at City Tavern in Victor, NY. Our server was excellent and we enjoyed our food and beers.
Well done. Good and company enjoyable. Will go again soon.
WE ordered the meatloaf dinner and artichoke french meal. . both were DELICIOUS ! Our drinks were excellent !! Our waitress was PERFECT ! Thank you for a wonderful way for us to celebrate our Anniversary !
I would have liked to be seated in the dining room it they sat us in the bar area which was so loud we couldn’t even talk to each other. Very dissatisfied with the food. Extremely buttery and oily. I thought it was supposed to be upper class but apparently you can go into this restaurant with flip flops and a tank top. Very disappointed, the only good thing was a nice server.
Great atmosphere, food and service. Food portions and price reasonabl.
Great meal, enormous and delicious side salad, delicious and perfectly done asparagus, tender shrimp that was added to Mac and cheese can’t be beat, wonderful window seating, excellent cocktails. Vegas sundae was terrific. Bisque was so so - will not order again.
Great atmosphere, food and service
Place was packed and yet the noise was minimal
Going back next time in the area
When we were waiting for our table we went up to the bar to get a drink. The women bartenders kept ignoring me. I flagged one down to tell her I wanted a glass of wine. She looked at me and then proceeded to ignore me again to get the people sitting next me their 2nd drink before I even got my 3rd. Waited 20 minutes and finally our table was ready. Still never got my drink at the bar.
We walked into City Tavern at 5:30 on a Friday evening. Immediately the noise from the right side of the restaurant was so loud that we had to practically yell at the hostess to tell her that we had a reservation. We were seated on the left side of the restaurant that quickly became very noisy. The food was good.
Great menu with inexpensive sandwiches or nicely priced dinners. The ribs that 2 in our party ordered were some of the best ever!
food was amazing. I love the mac and cheese! I could eat it over and over.
we enjoyed our meal and waitress was attentive but the noise level made it difficult to hear our companions!
i was pretty disappointed actually. you were out of two main menu items on a tuesday at 7pm. ribs and steak!! probably wont go again. service was good but wasn't impressed with what i ordered.
Food was good, pricing was so-so. My boyfriend got a special and though 90% of the items on the menu are under $25, the special was $36. Way more than we were planning on spending! He also said the steak was not good at all and definitely not worth $36. Overall, the rest of the food was delicious!
Evening out with friends...We had no idea that Tuesdays were $5.00 burger days! We all ordered the burger, and added salads and wine. Everything was excellent (super burgers!)...Food, service, atmosphere. We will definitely be going back.
We loved everything about the City Tavern. Beautiful place, great food, friendly staff, and great value. ☺️
I ordered the beet salad and it was amazing. My husband ordered a pepperoni pizza and he said it was pretty good. Our waitress was almost over attentive. She asked us 8 times if we needed another drink when we had 2 almost full beers on the table. We drove and one beverage was all we wanted. It was unusual to be asked so many times to order another drink, which we did not. A little pushy but was still a good experience.
Stopped by City Tavern after reviewing their menu which indicated a few gluten free dishes which sounded good. Upon arrival, the first item we wanted to order (Avacado poppers) were out of stock because they are going to be changing the menu in a few weeks. We discussed entrees and decided on the ribs which were listed as gluten free. The waitress said she thought the menu was a misprint and the ribs were not gluten free, so we asked her to confirm with the kitchen and she came back and let us know the ribs are not gluten free, despite being listed as such in the menu. So we went to the next choice, a half chicken. This was also out of stock. At this point we decided to make plans and go eat down the road at Bonefish grill. A manager stopped over to apologize and say that the ribs actually are gluten free as they recently changed the BBQ sauce, but the kitchen said otherwise so not worth the risk. The waitress and manager were pleasant but this was very disappointing. I know some items can run out of stock but this was an abnormal amount to be out of stock. As they prepare to change the menu, it would be better if they removed items or blacked them out from the printed menu. Also, if you are going to list items as having a particular allergy it is best to have the staff trained about them. If the waitress and chef indicate something contains an allergy, it makes it difficult to trust the manager when he says they are wrong as it sounded like he was just trying to get us to stay and order. We won’t be back to try a second time.
The Montana Berger was wonderful. The barbecue sauce added an incredible flavor. The fries were perfectly prepared. My wife had the Crispy Buffalo Chicken Salad. Apparently the chicken is breaded in-house and made the salad delectable.
It was very busy which is great for the business. However extremely loud that it was tough to hold a conversation with my daughter sitting right next to me. Was hoping the room opposite the bar was a little quieter but still very loud. Food and service was very good.
Service was wonderful.
Food not so good!
The Reubens were over cooked, corned beef tough.
The chicken French special was awful.
Overall was very, very salty. The pasta was like mush!
Not my expectation of Chicken French whatsoever!!!
