It was our first visit to Citronelle, it won’t be our last! Our experience was outstanding at the bar with our bartender Matt! Drinks and conversation were great! We ate in the dining room, but I would say the bar and bar dining room is the place to be! The dining room felt a little “banquet style”? Tables were oddly positioned for a dinner service. Other than that, a wonderful night out with family! Highly recommend!
For the money...go somewhere else. Food was subpar. Nice atmosphere and attentive wait staff.
Citronelle-Syracuse was amazing! Great food, ambiance, and service! Would HIGHLY recommend!!!!
a wonderful environment with very nice art on the walls and very creative food, a Syracuse gem
Service was slow although the restaurant was far from being full. Food came out cold. My burger was cooked perfectly, it was just cold as were the fries. My wife’s meal was also cold.
We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your time with us. While we do our best to serve hot food, we would have been more than happy to warm your food and give you fresh fries. We hope you'll give us another chance to make sure you have a stellar dining experience.
Bartender Matthew is exceptional! He made us amazing cocktails and was great to chat to.
This is fine dining in an upscale but not formal environment. Hosted a guest from Asia who was enamored with the food, wine list, ambiance and style of the restaurant. Will definitely go back and recommend it highly.
Excellent evening from a last minute decision.
Service and food were excellent.
Thank you for your visit and feedback. We hope to see you again soon!
Great bar. Great food. Great Service. One of the best I have been too in Syracuse
We are so happy you enjoyed your visit to Citronelle. Thank you so much for your feedback!
Another great night!
Both my food and my husband's was perfect! Thank you
Thank you for the feedback. We hope to see you again soon.
I like the variety available on the menu: both large and small plates. One party thought the burger was overcooked, but everyone else was pleased with their meal (steak, veal chop). I shared a new dessert with a friend, and it was very delicious. I also appreciate the wine and beverage list. The restaurant is a bit cavernous, therefore a bit noisy from the sounds bouncing off the hard surfaces.
I have enjoyed my meals at Citronelle and will return.
We had a knowledgeable and friendly server who was very familiar with the menu. My friend said the chicken in the sandwich was so moist. My pasta dish quite salty though tasty. We shared a key lime and mango dessert and wish we’d each had our own!
We had an amazingly delicious meal, our waiter was just the right mix of friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and funny. We’ll definitely go back.
Excellent food and service. The decor and atmosphere was delightful. We had an amazing experience and would highly recommend.
My girlfriend and I ate at Citronelle on a Friday and a Saturday night in July. There were a few hiccups for which I can't blame Citronelle. The fire alarm went off half way through our meal on Friday, but that didn't last long. We ordered steak both nights, and the grill chef tended to cook them too rare, so twice they were sent back. The food was excellent, the wine list first rate, and the space is charming. I wish Citronelle the best. They would be our first choice on our next visit to Syracuse.
Enjoyed the food, particularly the hamachi special which was outstanding.
What a lovely surprise! A fine, creative restaurant with luxe flourishes and fresh tastes. I appreciated the combination of small plates, full entrees, and seafood starters. A fresh, hot French loaf , choice of charcuterie options, and the excellent service were top notch. Decor is clean and contemporary...noise level was low, but on a Wed. night, when the place was not nearly full. Not sure what would happen on a busy Saturday evening. I could not find a white wine I liked (ordering by the glass), which was a little disappointing, but it was easy to quell that in the excellent saucing of the dishes I ordered.
We've eaten here before and enjoyed our meals at Citronelle this weekend.
I ordered a NY Strip and it was cooked perfectly. The side dishes were potato wedges and creamed spinach. I asked if I could skip the potatoes and get extra spinach or add another vegetable. The waiter checked with the kitchen and they declined the change. I offered to pay an upcharge, and they declined again.
I'll probably go back, but I was surprised by the restaurant's "no substitution" policy. I go to their other restaurant (LemonGrass) and don't recall this being an issue there.
Not that great... better options out there
Outstanding choice. Our server Aaron was extremely knowledgeable and top notch. All food was delish, from the oysters to charcuterie to steak.
I hope more people find out about Citronelle. The food was great, albeit a little pricy. The oysters were some of the best I've ever had. Our waiter and bartender were very friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. We were there at 6pm on a Thursday and we were the only table there except for one other couple and a a couple at the bar. A little too quiet, but the upside was really fast service. Beautiful job on the renovation and interior design.
The food was superb. Service could not have been better.
It was quiet when we were there (6:30 on a Wed. evening).
I was very excited to try out this new Downtown Syracuse restaurant on my birthday, last weekend. The food was absolutely horrible, from the filet to the lobster tail to the side dishes. The only decent things were the bread and my drinks (strawberry rhubarb martini’s). Our server was simply awkward, unhelpful, and unprofessional. If I could rate 0 stars I would.
The burger and the mixed drinks were outstanding. The halibut special was a little bland but well cooked. We decided to sit at the bar which was a great decision because the bartender was very knowledgeable and had a good feel of customers preferences and made drinks catered to them.
I was most impressed with the service. The staff was attentive without being intrusive. Definitely a special place for a very nice dinner.
Great night out. The restaurant is clean, modern, as just the right amount of formal for a Saturday night out. The staff was attentive without being overbearing.
The best part is the Bar Man. Knowledgeable, wonderful suggestions and he makes the best Negroni I have had in Syracuse.
The kitchen was amazing, and so far beyond our expectations! Each course sublime, an over-used word which is fitting in this case. The local cheeses, accompanied by berries, baguette slices and honey comb, were outstanding. We both got the lamb porterhouse, accompanied by spring pea and mint purée , fava beans and fingerlings, an assertive garlic black pepper sauce and chimmichurie of ramps. Served rare. YUM, and such a spring-like meal.
Desserts— the bombe , like a slice of baked Alaska, and homemade ice cream sandwiches with a shot of milk for my husband.
What a find! We were visiting from out of town for one night. Thanks to Open Table for the find!
We visited here for our anniversary on a Wednesday evening. We found the restaurant to be open and inviting. Staff was friendly and attentive. The menu offered an array of choices ranging from small plates and burgers to high end gourmet entrees. The food was prepared perfectly to our specifications and was served hot. Of particular note was the veal chop served with creamy polenta. Outstanding! Prices were moderate but to be expected for such quality. We strongly recommend you try Citronelle for your next special occasion or for just a relaxing meal after work.
Had to ask to place drink order. Inordinate delay in delivering drinks. Ling delay in delivering entrees and when delivered came piece- meal. In fact 3 of the part sat staring at their food while waiting for final two yo be delivered. By the time all were served the first three were cold. Explanation for delayed delivery of last two was “kitchen prepared appetizer not entree dishes they had to be redone”. Although well presented meals were generally average to below which is inconsistent with the standard the prices and presentation suggests. Thus two stars.
Given that it was graduation they had a limited menu and should have informed us at the time of reservation. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience and the staff were great
Wonderful food server was delightful. Waiting to long for drinks when restaurant was half full. Saying that they moved us to a lovely back room but it was empty and the front of the restaurant had much better vibe. My advice fill the front and use back area for overflow
fantastic experience- the service was incredible and servers were attentive.
Food was delicious - definitely a must go place in Syracuse!
I was celebrating my son's special graduation weekend by researching restaurants in the Syracuse University area. The evening prior to going to Citronelle for brunch, we went to Lemongrass. Although brunch is a completely different vibe than an outstanding dinner at LemonGrass, I was slightly disappointed at Citronelle's for a few reasons. One, a guest of my son, the graduate, had asked the waitress for no spinach in her eggs benedict. The waitress, said that was impossible. Really? Secondly, the seafood platter, although delicious, was just not as aesthetically pleasing or filling. Maybe more something? For example, checkout Balthazar's towering seafood platter in NY. And the Belgian waffle sticks, so little...maybe add two more sticks (?) ....I don't know. Great strawberry butter. I know, Syracuse is not N.Y.C., but the prices you charge are comparable. Otherwise, it's hard to mess up sauce bernaise on eggs benedict, so overall, it was above average and delicious. Thank you.
Perhaps it was a bad night.... there was a
Portions very small for price
Would not recommend
They couldn’t manage to have the table ready on time for the reservation. A 30 minute wait and looked incapable of managing volume
On a date with my gorgeous wife. Little confusion at the hostess stand getting seated. Took about 30 minutes to get our reserved table.
Food was excellent
This location has a great ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food was very good.
