Dinner at the 'new' Ciao Cielo was a delight. The new venue is superb (and warm) and is matched by the food and the service.
Overall a good experience, bread serving was odd, a piece of thinly sliced which seemed like from an ordinary packet slice of bread - small thing but needs improving.
This was our first time in the new venue. Ambiance is great and the food was as good as ever.
Beautiful atmosphere, food was delicious, wine beautiful and our whole night was perfect.
Have been a customer for a while, and was the first visit to the new location... wow! The decor & ambience matched the, as always, delicious food. Thank you guys, impressed the pants off my guests 😁
Excellent new site for this well loved local restaurant. Looking forward to trying the new Pizza Pasta bar.
We loved the original restaurant vibe on Bay Street. Small, intimate, cosy, authentic Italian with white table cloths, comfortable seating, exceptional food and service. We were worried about the move to the new site on the corner of Graham street but loved the staff and food so we gave it a try for Mum's birthday.
Some of the original staff are still there and working hard, one of the new staff members who served us was fantastic, she knew the menu inside out and upside down. She described in great detail some of the items we needed help with and I'm delighted to report the food hasn't changed. Everything we ate and drank was the same fabulous quality.
The atmosphere was very different, it's loud! The tables are fairly close together, the table cloths have gone and the seats (in the middle of the restaurant) are not as comfortable but if you want an energetic vibe for a group of friends this is a good option.
Thank you Ciao Cielo, we'll be back.
Keep it up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The atmosphere is amazing and so welcoming and so are the staff. The food is also quite delicious
Tried it out for a quiet birthday date. Excellent food, very good service, enjoyable ambience in a lovely old building, quiet and conversation-friendly. We would definitely go back, and take special friends there.
Service was very bad, we were totally ignored when we arrived, I had to find the coat rack and hang my coat up, the maître d was in the way, she did not offer to take my coat and she didn’t move aside for me to get to the coat rack. She laughed and said “oh you were invisible there for a moment”.
Spanner crab spaghetti - the pasta was not fresh and the crab must have been waved over the top of the bowl. Gnocchi was a strange concoction of parsnip and apple, the apple was in huge chunks and looked like it was used as a filler to make the dish look for substantial. Only one of our group ordered dessert, the tiramisu was served from a larger bowl at the table, we couldn’t believe it when the waiter almost threw a huge spoonful onto the plate with a splatter - It was sickly sweet and the sponge had gone watery. One of our party was charged for 2 bottles of sparkling water despite only drinking 2 glasses.
A band set up and started playing half way through our lunch, conversation was impossible, the band were too loud for such a small venue. If I’d known about the band I would never have booked.
No tip for the appalling service, we definitely won’t be going back there again, there are too many other exceptional dining venues in Melbourne to bother with this place.
Beautiful dinner in this incredible building. Felt like I was sitting in an old European restaurant. Loved it.
Amazing venue and menu. Everything we ordered was so tasty and fresh. The cocktail list is impressive and we enjoyed our drinks. Dessert menu could be more varied to cater for dairy free or vegan guests. Ambiance and decor were stunning, and overall a perfect place aside from some waitstaff looking a bit overwhelmed or possibly was their first day.
Just amazing food and wine.
The atmosphere is both welcoming and comfortable.
Kate and the staff do an incredible job in making the place just work.
Great venue and the food was sensational. Still a little on the expensive side, particularly the wine, but is was very good.
Ciao Cielo makes undoubtedly great Italian food. Unfortunately that’s where it really ended for us.
The service was shockingly slow, taking almost 3 1/2 hours for a 3 course meal from when we sat down. Ordering cocktails was also a very slow experience indeed.
The venue looks fantastic, the interior visually also stunning. The major drawback being it was very noisy with so many tables being in a small space. It was an echo chamber. We had to physically move the tables to stand up. They really needed to remove 2 or 3 tables to improve the noise, service and access.
The food was delicious, well presented, and the wait staff were friendly and attentive when they were available.
Disappointing. Food was good but not great. Service was terrible. Renovation of this amazing building is disappointingly amateurish. Overall felt unprofessional.
Our table was late, which is bad when your only allowed a 6/6.30 or 8.30 booking - I don't want to be eating dinner after 9pm thanks.
W were seated in a small room at the back. To get to our table we were led 'behind' the main bar counter and over a taped down electrical cable running across the floor - couldn't easily get through the front of the bar because tables are too close together.
So we didn't get the ambience of the main room, were too hot next to the fireplace and one chair was on the end of the table, almost in a doorway constantly getting 'brushed past'.
The table layout was such that the waiter couldn't reach 2 out of 5 people, so we were constantly having to pass things to him. He got the dessert order wrong. There was some sort of cream under the ice-cream bowls which ended up on our table and never got cleaned. Clearing of dishes was abysmal.
Only go here if you're after neighbourhood quality Italian and don't mind poor service.
We always loved Ciao Cielo in its previous venue and the new venue is even better. Everything we love about Ciao Cielo is still there, wonderful food, good wines, great service, friendly and lovely atmosphere and the list goes on.
Brilliant food, gorgeous surrounds, one of those restaurants and local businesses you really want to support. Congratulations team!
Food was delicious, service was great . Was a lovely place to have a catch-up with friends and enjoy a few glasses of wine and amazing food for sharing.
All the quality of the old Ciao Cielo, great food and service now in a spectacularly renovated historical court house. Now clearly the best dining Xperience in Port Melbourne
Fabulous authentic Italian with excellent wine selection. gorgeous old building with so much charm and atmosphere. Food was exceptional.
The new reopened restaurant was just lovely. The decor , food and service were all wonderful.
I booked a table for 11 people, we are all local mums and everyone was very impressed. We had a long table down the middle of the room with one end close to the fire which made it a perfect temperature.
Food was delicious. I shared the T-Bone with 3 others and we had 4 sides, Blue Cheese Cauliflower, Broccolini, Fries and Roast Potatoes. All good size to share and none was leftover. If you were hungry I would suggest sharing the T-Bone with 2 people but it was enough for us with the extra sides. Most had dessert and all loved what they ordered. I had the Bomb Alaska which was yum. We were well looked after even though the restaurant was packed. We had a great night, thank you!
Food is good as usual seems to be teething problems with new facility and new staff.
Raw Tuna dish was a letdown as there was a tendon/filament running through it and this would never be served at a sushi restaurant , sad since the price is 5 times what you would pay for this.
Ciao Cielo is superlative in every way. Fantastic service, amazing food and an inspired menu. Everything is awesome - but the chicken liver parfait is really special. Go, you won’t be disappointed!
It was the usual delicious and perfect food that Ciao Ceilo serves but this time in a new fantastic venue. Ciao Celo has found its perfect "home" and my friends and I will certainly be returning. Well done to the Kate, Brian, Christopher and the team. I'm looking forward to lunch in the courtyard as well. Gai
Everything was fantastic the small space was a let down
first time there,
did not disappoint
will most definitely return
fantastic job guys and gals
I have been a previous customer of Ciao and Cielo many years ago. However, I'm back in Melbourne and it is wonderful to come and been able to still enjoy Ciao Cielo. Food Quality, Services and atmosphere is excellent.
Staff were very friendly and the food was tasty. I would have liked more meal options but I was able to find something that interested me. The theme/decor was beautiful.
I’ve eaten at Ciao Cielo several - or maybe even many- times and it has never failed in any way. The food is wonderful - always perfectly prepared and interesting. In December a visiting friend took me there and we ate ox cheek, which was delicious and a first for both of us. It alway gave me an opportunity to move away from the chili crab pasta which I seem to have most times I’m there. The service is also excellent. The wines are interesting and not overpriced, the deserts are sinful - really what more could you ask. Certainly by far the best restaurant in Port Melbourne.
My husband and I were absolutely delighted with our first visit to Ciao Cielo. The welcome was warm, the food delicious and the ambience relaxed. It was also lovely to have my birthday acknowledged by Staff and patrons alike, made for a very enjoyable lunch. We’ve already booked our next visit!
I dine at Ciao Cielo regularly it has never been anything but wonderful. Attentive staff who are extremely knowledgeable & compliment this with their warmth & humour. The food is incredible, causing us to reflect on it & talk about it days after our visit. I feel so lucky to have such a fabulous restaurant so close to home.
Yummy modern interpretations of Italian classics with a terrific Italian wine selection to boot.
Great food, great service and great team.
First time to eat there on a friends recommendation. Christian and the team made us feel like we had been many times!
Great atmosphere with Italian flavour, cosy, noisy. Good food
Amazing lunch. The lamb shoulder was to die for. Beautifully presented. Service was excellent and the decor was beautiful. A hidden local gem.
Brilliant food, incredibly tasty, unbelievably delicious, impeccably presented, great service, peaceful ambience, a perfect experience!
With owners as chef and front-of-house you can see the pride in ownership and attention to customer. A smallish menu but with each offering being appealing. The atmosphere is great - a background hum but not so much you can't have a conversation.
