I have an issue with restaurants which place a surcharge on the bill if paying by credit card. I don’t go back to those restaurants or if I do, I pay cash (which is what we did) and the staff forgo a tip. Nobody wins.
Outstanding menu and great service in beautiful surroundings
Was excited to return after having an outstanding meal here last year but it was a huge disappointment. The menu was limited and fussy. I ordered the chicken which was all dark meat - no white meat at all which it probably should be for $34. It came with the most ridiculous accompaniment - “rosemary popcorn” which was 7-8 pieces of plain popcorn with rosemary sprigs on top of them which was the saddest (funniest?) thing I’ve seen in 50 years of dining. The cauliflower side was was hard and dry. The owner of the restaurant was terse and unfriendly. Out of our group of nine not one person thought their meal or service was decent even the ones that always say it “was great”. I’ve referred so many people here based on my last visit but I won’t be back and won’t be recommending again. Such a shame.
Absolutely stunning restaurant , set in a beautiful old building. The food was electric, the wait staff were polite and cheerful and it was fantastic
Always a pleasure Dining here, from before they moved to this new location to now, always lovely with great food and service, love the place xo
Ciao Cielo has been a favorite of mine for years! The food is wonderful, the staff is friendly and the venue is beautiful! While a little pricey, the food is consistently delicious and the wine list never a let down. I love their lemoncello martinis and literally every dish on their menu!
The ambience is wonderful, though it can be very noisy. I brought family to dine recently, and my granddad had trouble keeping up with the conversation because he wasn’t able to hear very well. The restaurant building is a wonderful design, complementing the original old building with modern finishes, but making for a noisier atmosphere (which is wonderful if you don’t mind it).
I love this restaurant, and definitely recommend for celebrating a special occasion or for a casual drink!
Ciao Cielo was sensational. The food was so delicious and the range was amazing
Will definitely return.
Nice environment and lovely service. Good attention to detail. Yet like most Australian restaurants, very overpriced ($35 mains)
Rainbow trout was great, but being served in a large wrap of baking paper meant I got oil everywhere... all over the table.... when trying to unwrap the meal. Noted that most side dishes were also arriving drenched in excessive amounts of oil. That said, food good quality, but overpriced.
A beautifully designed small restaurant with very good authentic Italian Cuisine. The service was very kind and attentive. Small portions, could be a little bit more ( ... because it's so delicious).
The food was great, the service and recommendations of our waiter were excellent. Our waiter also knew when to interrupt and when to leave us alone. He was very good. Very enjoyable.
Amazing food, vibe, surrounding. Service wasn't great I think they need more staff for busy nights, took 15 minutes to be offered a drink after arriving and had to keep trying to get the waiters attention for drinks/food throughout the night. For fine dining would expect better service to match the outstanding food.
Food is perfection, dishes are balanced and exquisitely executed. Charming atmosphere.
Amazing meal, as vegetarians we weren’t sure what to expect, can vouch for it being a great couples dinner. Sorry we didnt leave a tip, the service definitely warranted it, but my wife and I ate so much delicious food we ended up eating into the money we’d have used to tip. Ordered seconds of the dessert (ricotta cake) and loads of other food. Figured the least we could do is write a good review. Will definitely be returning. Also the ambiance was fantastic. Well done to the restaurant for creating perfect service, food, atmosphere!
Our favourite local restaurant. Great food and service and some great beer and wines to choose from. A great setting inside the old courthouse.
Ciao Cielo provides an intimate fine dining experience for couples or groups. The food is sensational and the service is attentive and caring. Great wine list to choose from if that is what you want.
The venue in the old church is fabulous......reminiscent of old Italian village.Service was friendly and happy.Food was great. We dine out twice a week , trying many places , often only once .But Ciao Cielo is now a regular.Looking forward to taking friends to share the enjoyment.
Beautiful restaurant. A delight to look at, absolutely delicious food and the service is outstanding. Definitely one for when you want to spoil yourself/your loved ones!
As always, Christian and the team took care of us!
Enjoyed a delicious meal indoors on a Monday afternoon, when many local restaurants are closed. The food was excellent as was the service. We were the only indoor diners enjoying the cosy open fire, which is not a reflection on the establishment but more likely people not knowing it is open for lunch on a Monday.
Such a great restaurant with excellent food and the best service I have experienced in Melbourne so far.
We always love coming back to Ciao Cielo. It has been one of our favorite restaurants for many years.
Recommended by my friend who is a wine writer, for their wine pairings. I don’t drink wine but I am a fine dining veteran and was delighted with my meal which I chose after the menu had been carefully explained to me by a knowledgeable and patient waiter. We were a party of seven, each of us complimentary about our dinners and pleased with the $530 bill (two courses with drinks for seven).
We were pleasantly surprised by the decor of the restaurant, which is light and airy but atmospheric. The bar on one side of the main dining area is very impressive. The menu featured some interesting dishes with sufficient choice without spreading the kitchen too thin. The wine list was diverse and fair value. Our waitress helped me choose a glass of very nice Italian red to go with my Sardinian Goat Leg main course.
Overall the service was friendly, timely and helpful. WE enjoyed our Sunday lunch immensely, and had no complaints.
Love the building and the way they have set up Ciao.Good location when we are going to and from city functions. This was our third visit and we will definitely return.Service from the lovely Marion made the night a delight.I don't believe there is a 10/10 anything in this life , but Ciao are well over a 9....!!
The eating experience was good, the food was as it should be and as I was hoping for, all four diners enjoyed their meals.
Only problem was the table server, I think he is a little too old for table service, he came across as grumpy, couldn’t be bothered to listen, hurry up and order, clearing plates before table had finished.
Like he was having his mid life crisis at work.
Then when I paid, his first words were “ will sir be tipping tonight?”
Normally I do $50 tips, when asked nothing for you “sir”
Love this gorgeous restaurant, everything about it is wonderful.
Beautiful building, lovely a warm on a cold winter's night, food always good and service was excellent, never had an empty glass and the food came a good intervals.
We went to Ciao Cielo for lunch and it was lovely and quiet. Maybe for dinner when the place was full it may be a bit noisier.
We could not fault the food nor the staff, excellent service. Extensive choice of wines.
We will definitely be back
We thought the food was exceptional. We started with the meat and cheese board - excellent. We each had pasta dishes and all were excellent. Very nice wine list and good service.
Amazing food, service and ambience. So in love with this place and can't wait to come back again!
Wonderful evening. The whole family was raving about the food for days after. Everything was perfect- great food, professional, friendly service and a beautiful setting.
Fabulous food and service was excellent. Have to go back - there are dishes on the menu that I simply have to try.
We have eaten at Ciao Cielo many times and we were never disappointed. So lat night was another lovely experience. Our friends who have not eaten at Ciao Cielo before were most impressed. I must say my 12 hour slow cooked pork neck was sensational...
Excellent service. Nick was an excellent server with good knowledge of the menu. He engaged really well with the guests. He constantly topped up glasses and saw to the requirements of all guests.
Food was outstanding quality with good quantity.
Broad range of Italian and Australian wines.
We were a large group and all guests were really impressed with this restaurant.
Very highly recommended.
Fantastic in every way! We will definitely be back!
A great night out good food, wine and ambiance. Waitress was fantastic. A little disappointing that were specifically asked if we would like to make a 'tip" and having the waiter hover over us as we competed the payment - not the best way to end an otherwise fine anniversary outing.
Awesome inventive food yet again on this business dinner occasion, great service (as always), very good wine list (try the Italian White Wine Verdicchio) and the vibe of that dining room just always make dining there memorable.
The menu is large enough to accomodate all tastes and preferences. Everything we ordered was delicious. However, the tables are close together and I didn't entirely enjoy the evening as the people on the table next to us were constantly listening to our conversation and this made it quite uncomfortable.
Very pretty space, waiter who really knew the menu and wine list. Some lovely flavours. Pity the fire wasn’t burning on a cold day (March, so might be a seasonal thing)
The pasta special that my wife had on Friday 29th was the best pasta dish she’s ever had (and she’s a pasta fanatic). It was simply sublime. The food just keeps getting better which is saying something for how high the bar has been at Ciao Cielo for such a long time.
