Chocolate Buddha's menu varies from traditional Japanese menus to incorporate the use of local and international produce. A great selection of Wines, Sake, Beers and Spirits will refresh and compliment your dining experience.

The Melbourne restaurant has a unique interior design with Buddha’s adorning the restaurant provides an inviting atmosphere.

Chocolate Buddha is named after one of our Buddha’s at home. It is dark chocolate in colour and had a particularly sweet face and smile.

We welcome you, and sincerely hope to provide you with an uplifting dining experience.

The restaurant was so busy, hot and noisy that we did not enjoy dining here as much as we usually do.

The waiters really looked after our group - we had four kids, two gf and everyone found something yummy to eat. Great being able to watch the tennis on the big screen from our table.

Tasty food in a great location and enjoyed by friends who eat gluten-free. Good if you enjoy a noisy restaurant and don't mind slightly chaotic meal-delivery.

We love Chocolate Buddha - with a family group of between 9 and 13 with a range of food preferences Chocolate Buddha is perfect. Great for a group and food options from Vegan to Meat lovers. It is not cheap but it is worth it.

A great evening once again. Our children (8 and 11) love eating at the Chocolate Buddha. The staff are so efficient, friendly and accommodating. They engage in conversation with our children and have accommodated to the every request/suggestion of our children. We love coming here for dinner although it doesn't happen often as a family as it is quite pricey.

Good restaurant. The only thing is that they serve starters and mains together and not the whole party; so one is starting already and the other did not have his starter.
Chocolade dessert was not so good

The food was outstanding, really delicious. Decent value for the food also. Service was just... odd. Mainly around what felt like some underhanded upselling by the host, which didn't sit well. I don't like to feel like I have to check my bill so carefully, it undermines the enjoyment of the experience and the ambience. Birthday dinner for my partner, who loved the food and enjoyed everything but agreed service was odd.

Dined at Chocolate Buddha on NYE and enjoyed the prime location on Fed Square. Had a perfect site of the entertainment and fireworks at Midnight whilst enjoying delicious food and drink. Staff was welcoming and professional and were excellent in their service on what would have been their busiest time of the year.

Nice environment however far from the Japanese standards when it comes to food:
- big portions, lack of attention to details
- overly seasoned/ salted

Ok for a casual meal but I had a lot higher expectations after reading all these positive reviews

Chocolate Buddha has delicious food, with plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options. There is a small but interesting cocktail list and their desserts are different and scrumptious.

Amazing food, edgy when compared to mainstream Japanese couisine. Been there multiple times and a favorite ‘go to’ when in the city for a special occasion or just a catch up. Has a great but not precocious wine list.

Chocolate buddha boasts some traditional cuisine mixed with some fusion dishes. The staff is very alert, friendly and punctual. The real surprise comes from the kitchen where dishes are served out in a quick fashion and with great taste when in comes to flavours and presentation. I would 100% come back again and add this restaurant to my favorites.

A group of four meet at Chocolate Buddha for end of year break up.
Was worried about communal seating but all good. The seats have no back, however very comfy.
We all loved it. 10/10.
Have been back twice since.

Chocolate Buddha takes a modern approach to Japanese food, while still maintaining all the traditional favourites if you want them. The quality of the sashimi and sushi is absolutely top notch. Service can be a bit hit and miss (we've been here a few times), but the waitress we had this last time was very friendly, efficient and attentive. Location in Federation Square makes it easily accessible, and a good pre- or post-theatre haunt. The food and service is amazing, with long share tables or bar seating. Highly recommend.

The food and service was very good, but the extreme noise level coming from Federation Square next door made the experience quite unpleasant. I would not book again here without checking the Fed Square events page as I do not want a repeat of this experience.

Good food, quick and friendly service, ideal for a pre-show dinner.

Trivial quibble: the large bowls are hard to eat rice from with chopsticks.

We brought overseas guests to sample the menu here. They were not familiar with japanese cuisine and thought it might be too spicy. We tasted a lot of different starters type dishes and Chocolate Buddha made up servings so there were enough for each of us to have one or two samples of that dish.
The chefs were really busy with what looked like an office lunch but the time between ordering and eating was quick.
The noice was very loud once the office the tables filled to the point it was difficult to talk.
Overall, a delectable experience again for us and our guests were very impressed. We love this restaurant and highly recommend it. It's a good idea to book.

We were looking for somewhere nice to have dinner before a show at the Arts Centre and where not disappointed.
Signage from the Fed Square car park was moot good but once we found the place we had a lovely evening.
Service was prompt and friendly. The food was great with plenty of options to share and the prices were quite reasonable.
