Building on a successful partnership that began with celebrated Potts Point restaurant, The Apollo, Christie and Barthelmess’s Cho Cho San is an exploration of Japanese food culture.
Cho Cho San represents a cross-fertilization of ideas, we have spent time in Japan where we were inspired by their rich and multi-layered food and drink culture. With Cho Cho San, we wanted to bring some of the big-city buzz and excitement of Tokyo back to Sydney. Chef and Co-owner, Barthelmess is developing an ever-changing, seasonal menu keeping to the Japanese philosophy of simplicity where ingredients are the stars. Joined by Head Chef Max Smith, working together the focus is fresh food, healthy eating, using hibachi grilling and steaming techniques.

We brought friends who hadn’t dined at Cho Cho San before, they loved it! We had the set menu so they could try several dishes, excellent value! Service was spot on! The best place in Potts Point! Highly recommend

Awful. Mediocre food, highly overrated. Interesting decor but we couldn’t enjoy it because of how cramped, dark, and loud this place was inside. This is a terrible place to celebrate anything.

This is not our first time to CHO CHO SAN. High quality service, expensive wine list, and an innovative menu are the stand outs here. They've changed the menu slightly to stay fresh. The seaweed is very strong, with most dishes being better than the next. The only one we didn't like was the squid stuffed with rice. There are too many good dishes to feedback. I would recommend CHO CHO SAN to anyone looking for great food, great service, and excellent wine. Just be prepared to pay for the experience. So its more suited to a special occasion unless you're on the expense account.

We asked for guidance from the waiter to make sure we didn’t over order - we definitely did end up over ordering notwithstanding.

People that arrived after us were seated before we were even though we had arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and they had arrived 20 minutes late for theirs. This unfortunately resulted in us not being able to get the table we wanted, it doesn’t really seem fair that they got first choice for a table when they arrived late. The food was fantastic but the sake pairing often came out late when we had nearly finished the dishes they were meant to be paired with.
Overall still good, maybe they were just a bit off the night we went.

Cho Cho San is a fun place with great food and wine list. I was especially impressed with the raw fresh small plates such as the kingfish, tuna tartare and beef tartare. The special of the night was a scampi toast and it was divine. A definite winner if it is on the menu again

I went with a friend to try the Banquet One menu and was 100% satisfied! All the staff were friendly and attentive, and each dish came out very quickly—not to mention each dish was on point and so delicious! I’ll be coming back again for sure

We had a terrific meal at Cho Cho San. Must try the pork katsu steam buns and the sesame mochi ice cream. Amazing food, great ambiance!

Cho Cho San is my favourite restaurant in the city, and has comparable cuisine to that found in Tokyo. Whatever the occasion, I can't recommend Cho Cho San enough and I will continue to venture to the venue for exceptional banquet offerings plus the plethora of drink options available.

We had been at the Cho Cho San restaurant the night before. The food was okay but not something that you would crave to go back for. However, we honoured our booking made for the following Saturday and arrived for our booked table five minutes early only to be shown the bar where we were to be seated. When I book a table, I book a table not a bar stool. So we left and dined at Fei Jai around the corner which was terrific.

Over our meal I received an audacious e-mail from Opentable asking me to please let them know when I wasn't turning up for a booking. It seemed that the restaurant had told them we did not arrive or honour our booking not that we had turned up but were not offered a table but only a seat at the bar! Very bad form.

I eat out most nights but won't be rushing back.

Cho Cho San has always been our favorite restaurant for dinner dates and special occasion. The food is always on point and delicious. The service was excellent on our last visit. I really appreciate that the restaurant rang me before dinner to confirm my special request and accommodate other needs accordingly. I was actually sad that they no longer had the Yuzu pudding. I really wanted my friends - who never tried Cho Cho San before - to try this dessert. I hope that can come back one day. The granita with sorbet and mochi dessert still made our night. The prawns with kombu butter is always our go-to dish and it never lets us down. Big thumbs up.
I look forward to visit this restaurant again!

The food was absolutely fantastic. It's a modern interpretation of japanese cuisine so of you're not a big fan of Japanese food in general but your fellow diners are, you will be able to enjoy the menu as well.
The service is great as well. All servers were friendly and efficient.

Always fully satisfied with the food and ambiance. Just slight touch of the service, it would be perfect. It was bit difficult to catch the waiter/waitress attention to order. As the servers were trying to deliver the dishes promptly, they seemed to have no time to engage with the customers.

But overall, as my guests and I had a good evening at Chochosan !
