Chifley's Bar & Grill
All staff friendly, efficient and professional. Good food and nice atmosphere. Guitarist and singer on the night was a nice touch.
Food and drink were alright, but more like pub food. The staff were polite and kind, but made several mistakes with our order and check. Beautiful building and surrounding was the main positive point.
Nice restaurant, good location, good menu, tasty food, friendly staff!
Didn’t need the music at the level it was set, the quality of the sound also not good. Only downside of the night
I enjoyed the restaurants decor, but.
The menu was very limited. For a bar and grill, they only offer one steak.
The squid entree was very undercooked and Not enjoyable. I was offered a replacement but I declined.
I ordered my steak medium rare, but it came very rare.
My fiancée ordered the same but medium and it was cooked the same as mine. Very rare.
Both of our breads were still slightly frozen in the middle.
I liked my bearnaise sauce, and the roast chats.
We decided to skip dessert.
Good food and service.
Wonderful, professional service and large range of wines. Live music and comfortable seating
The price reflects the setting, a nice historic hotel in the heart of Canberra.
The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is fantastic, while the portions are a good average size it looks and tastes good.
The vegetables looked as if they were rehydrated. Some of the vegetables could not be eaten. The sauce lacked flavour. Very disappointing.
The waiter was excellent. He was polite, courteous and efficient.
The food was above expectation. Steaks were perfectly chargrilled and cooked exactly to order. The kids bolognese was decent and was made with a child's palette in mind, unlike other places that think kids don't care about flavour. Recommend Chifley's for families or for a cosy date. During summer the courtyard is great!
Restaurant was freezing as there was live music in court yard and all doors to outside were open for their convenience. No consideration was given to dining guests (Most wearing their coats still) even after requesting that the door to outside be closed or the one leading to the reception to stop the major cross draft. Not a pleasant experience unfortunately.
The room was so cold we had tokeep on our coats. The food was warm (not hot) and the dining areas seemed understaffed.
Quiet and pleasant though Corona restrictions of no table cloth or salt and pepper shakers made it feel a bit austere. Nice food, pleasant staff.
It’s a bit cold and lifeless in the dining room. ...
return visit for an anniversary dinner. Disappointing experience
It was cold inside but the food was great if a bit expensive.
My wife enjoyed a lovely meal at Chifley's on Friday night. Service was great - warm, attentive but not excessively so. Food was great. Clearly the menu has shrunken (an impact of Covid 19 perhaps) but the fare was really cooked well (Angus Steak) and my wife's choice of curry flavoursome. Chifley's is still a favourite of ours and the service is still great. Thumbs up!
Both meals on the cold side the sauce with salmon fridge cold not really what I expected. Also very little vegetables served with meal.
Nice relaxed atmosphere. Menu offered lots of choice, food was delicious and the service friendly and attentive.
We went for a special night out, the food was nice but nothing better than we could have received at a Southern Cross Club at a more reasonable price.
The restaurant was almost empty. The food was over cooked. Disappointing having come all the way from Sydney.
Waitress indicated she was busy and we should go to the desk to order a coffee. This was after we had to go looking for someone to take an order.
Some of the prices were eye-wateringly expensive, but the service and the quality of food was just outstanding. My partner and I had an amazing time. Our waitress Iman was just delightful!
Everything about our visit to Chifley's was wonderful.
Overpriced
Ambience of a cafeteria
Food ok but not great
Service amiable but not appropriate for the level of restaurant and pricing
Wine list small and overpriced with very few local options
The food was mediocre but ok. After finishing my main course I would have liked dessert but was studiously ignored by the wait staff until I decided to leave and paid at the desk on my way out. There are many, many better dining options in Canberra.
Canberras best offering the regions best steaks with amazing seasonal vegetables. An extensive wine list with very reasonable prices.
Choose the signature rib eye on the bone and hopefully some room still for the awesome deconstructed pavlova. The team lead by Bernaldo will ensure you have a great night to remember. Bookings highly recommended
The overall experience at the Chifley was very good.. The food was very good, service brought the rating down. The waitress whispered everything which meant I had to ask her to continually speak up and they took considerable time post entree to clear and reset the table.
Besides these two small issues I would recommend the Chifley and I would also revisit for dinner.
Wine and some dishes that were ordered were not delivered.
Chicken and Rib-eye were over cooked.
We could have gone to any good Canberra restaurant for the price.
We chose Chifley for the ambience of the Kurrajong Hotel for our special occasion.
Expected to have a great experience but sadly we did not.
Staff were friendly which was something I suppose.
Chifley's Bar and Grill is a secret little gem! The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. While not all that cheap, you get your money's worth through the delicious food and great service!
Service was excellent. Waiters were very helpful and friendly
Food was amazing
I brought my husband there for his 50th birthday dinner and he thoroughly enjoyed it
Quite relaxing and a standard buffet breakfast. We sat outside in a sunny courtyard.
A good atmosphere and generally pleasant.
We are satisfied on the servings its so delicious, and the staffs are approachable, in addition the place is so calm and relaxing. Overall, its highly recommended.
Good value meal in pleasant surrounds of the Kurrajong dining room. Good service. Meal portions are of good size and well presented. Good dessert selection. Good choice of wines. Recommended for a really nice meal in a lovely hotel
It was a great experience except for us having to ask for the menus and then to place our order. Small complaint in the scheme of things. Would certainly return.
The food was good from a varied menu. The decor and ambiance very pleasant whilst the staff were welcoming, attentive and efficient. Now back in Perth so no knowing when we might get to return. Good luck.

The meal was small. The price doesn’t worth. Food was very plain.
Enjoyed Dinner good value for money. However I was not satisfied with breakfast. Very ordinary and not worth the 20 dollars. Hot food was not hot and bacon all dried up. The dishes were not freshly cooked
After entering through the garden, the meal was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the 400g grass fed Rib eye.
The Bar and Grill is an ideal place for an intimate lunch/dinner. We were there for lunch and the food and service was excellent. The prices were competitive. Really liked the decor and loved the silver service available. Definately will return.
As we were staying at the Hotel Kurrajong, it was very convenient for us to eat at this restaurant and the service was very good, helpful and prompt. We asked to change from the allocated table to another in a different position (ie not just outside the kitchen door!!) and this was done with little fuss. We enjoyed our evening.
