Inspired by the neo-bistros of Paris and the comfort of California, Chez Tex offers a rotating menu of egalitarian eats by the beach.
We strive to under-promise and over-deliver. Simplicity and authenticity are our guiding principles. Arrive early for an eclectic but palate-pleasing glass of wine; stay late for a meal that comforts your body and soul.
We invite you to join us on a journey of sensory exploration that is anchored in quality over quantity; from the ingredients we source to the technique employed. Pointed yet polished.

Nice spot for couples that want to communicate
Nice service staff
Pleasant dining experience
This ia neighborhood gem. Just a few dishes -- all delicious -- and a very interested and reasonable wine list, although we brought our own ($25 corkage). We dined early and only a few tables were occupied, yet service is of the philosophy of not to bother you (so we did flag our server down a few times). But we loved the kale salad and the amazing cauliflower. Definitely a must visit for a Venice scene that is either too trendy or too tavern-y.
Great food - great space - great service- highly recommend
This is a hidden gem. Delicious food, quiet enough to have a real conversation, with a well-curated wine list. I'm surprised this lovely little spot isn't packed.
Hands down my favorite restaurant experience to date. Maybe it was just one of those nights where everything all aligned perfectly: the service + food + ambiance... did I mention service, were all top notch. We were definitely pleasantly surprise. I can't wait to become a regular!
Small restaurant, small menu, beer and wine only.
First time there and it was a pleasant surprise. We shared everything, the gnocchi which was tasty and a bit crunchy. Then we also had the open faced tomato toast, like a bruschetta which was also delicious. Service was great!
Really great food and service! Definitely recommend checking this place out.
Lovely local restaurant serving inventive and delicious Californian fare. Party of six, we ordered a comprehensive array of appetizers, entrees and desserts and shared them all. There wasn’t a weak link in the chain. The restaurant was quiet but that suited us fine. Highly recommend Chez Tex.
The effort was there, but the food was subpar. The menu was very limited. The waiter recommended the ricotta gnocchi and cauliflower. The flavors were poor, especially given the ingredients. Bland, boring. We were still hungry so we ordered the kale; same result. It was very disappointing. The service was good, the waiter was nice. The place was practically empty, it was a saturday night.
The food was absolutely fantastic, fresh, and beautifully plated. I would highly recommend Chez Tex for a date night or dinner with family and friends.
We had a healthy, tasty and delicious meal. We had 2 vegetarian meals - Cauliflower grilled and charred and a curried chick pea dish over rice. We also had the grilled Branzino whole which as fileted. Everything was fresh and we enjoyed the Brick walls and concrete floor décor.
Amazing food , reasonably priced in a cool quaint spot.
We found this restaurant a bit average. Food was fine, but not seasoned particularly well and the beef didn’t appear to be the best quality for the cut.
Excellent food. Will go again.
Host was very rude. They kept adjusting the lighting so it would get very bright then dark and it was very distracting. Will not be back.
Great place to dine in Venice if you actually want to have a conversation! Nice and quiet ambiance and food carries a mix of meditaranian with an exotic twist, lots of vegetarian choices too. Would definitely come back!
We ordered almost everything on the menu between us all and not one did! All were delish and well paired. New favorite local spot!
Went there at 7 on a Saturday and they were out of the entree we wanted, beer we ordered, and hadn’t yet made the appetizer we wanted. Apparently they ran out of the entree the night before- why they didn’t buy more, who knows! We said we would wait for the app and waitress couldn’t give a time when it would be ready and said we it could be a lot longer than 30 minutes and that she couldn’t give a time frame. Later we saw the table next to us with it- our waitress never said anything about it being ready. Overall was a disappointing, overpriced experience.
Delicious food and great staff! Would have loved more comfy seating and a bigger table...
This food is incredible! Don’t waste anymore time if you can get to this restaurant donut and enjoy the incredible menu!
The food was fantastic. The sourdough with ash salt was fabulous. I had the tuna poke which was very good. The staff were exceptionally friendly. The music was a little loud but that not worthy of complaint. Good selection of gluten-free food including a rather fine chocolate cake.
Small, intimate bar/restaurant. We had the gnocchi which were perfect little succulent pillows and the rib eye. Both excellent. Definitely recommend. Street be parking.
always so good, service is always amazing. it's one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants for sure.
Love the food, space and service. Always a favorite to return to!
We had a wonderful evening. But I do suggest that you rotate or provide another vegan dish. Many vegans eat alot of hummus and other forms of chickpeas. perhaps use other kinds of beans and vegetables and sauces. The wine was absolutely delicious and the service superb
Excellent food but we were only one of two patrons so the vibe was suuuuper quiet and low key
The food was delicious, but it took over an hour for our entrees to arrive, and we were dining at a time when only one other person was dining.
Nice place, good service, started with a beautiful cheese plate but my main course, a pork chop was extremely overdone and dry, cold, as if it had stood for a while. I mentioned it to the server but he didn’t reply - to be fair maybe he didn’t hear me; he was otherwise attentive and friendly. I had been looking forward to it, and it was served over a bean dish that was great, but what could have been a great meal was not quite there this time.
Neighborhood gem. Menu is fresh and always changing. Go here! Inventive dishes and lovely service.
Food was great! Waiter could have been more knowledgeable.
Just meh - nothing special
The food is delicious, restaurant is charming, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service, not pretentious. A hidden gem.
We had read great things about this restaurant and it did not disappoint. There are very few tables and the quality of the food was very good. The entree menu was very small. There was one selection for each general need (fish, vegan, chicken, burger), but more selection would have been good. Service was very good and the salad we shared was good size and very well done.
Great drink selection. Wait time (steak n eggs), unacceptable (34 minutes). Good & attentive service.
As you're strolling down Main St. looking for a bite, you may think the posted menu at Chez Tex looks sparse at first glance, or that the name of the restaurant is a bit puzzling. But every single item we ordered was outstanding! This is definitely a gem of a restaurant.
After the concerts in the park in Manhattan Beach, we wanted to get out of the South Bay and head over to the Venice area. Looking through many online menus, I selected Chez Tex because of the menu. There was something each one of us could eat: a meat eater, a vegan and a picky one. It's usually not an easy task.
We made reservations, but sunday night was not crowded. The atmosphere was inviting and open to the outside. Hope was our server who was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the marinated olives, spicy almonds, salted bread and crispy quinoa to start. We were all extremely pleased and eager to see if a main course would be as satisfying. My husband loved the moist chicken and we saw that many other people ordered the chicken as well. My daughter and I both ordered the Vegetable Spaetzle and were completely blown away. This honestly was the best dish I've ever eaten. It was an Italian masterpiece. We raved about the dish to Hope and she informed us that the Chef is from Felix. I've never been to Felix, but we were happy that we found Chez Tex. We couldn't help ourselves by splitting a coconut/lime souffle, and, of course, it was amazing. We didn't get out of there under under $140 with one beer and one glass of wine, but it's worth dining here without a doubt. Admittedly, we ordered a lot of food. Order the Spaetzle!! The Chef is extremely talented and creative.
Great wine, great food, great atmosphere. Started with the delicious aps and followed into some amazing food.
Neighborhood gem! Frequent menu changes, including a fantastic wine list and cocktails. Had the ribeye, rock cod crudo, and grilled asparagus, snap peas, and broccoli over warm ricotta. Delicious!
I was really excited to try this spot, but was pretty disappointed. The atmosphere was really nice and cute, but the food, service and price were lacking. The food overall was mediocre, especially for the price point. It also took awhile to get our food even though there were only two other parties in the cafe.
