What Insiders Are Saying
For classic French food in Georgetown, head to Chez Billy Sud.
We tried the steak and the trout and both were delicious, the server was excellent but not intrusive and the restaurant is a beautiful setting in Georgetown.
Great small restaurant with lovely ambiance, helpful & knowledgeable waiters and authentic tasting French food & wine. Book today.
We go to lots of wonderful restaurants - mostly in the SF Bay area and D.C. area -
and almost never take the time to review places. This place rules. The atmosphere, the food! the charming waiters (our waiter was named Fluke and he was a real pro). The wine list - affordable and excellent. Highly recommended. One minor suggestion: if you are salt-sensitive, you might want to ask for them to back off the salt just a bit, but the preparation of appetizers and entrees (heirloom tomato salad and onion soup, duck confit and trout) was flawless. Excellente!!
Four of us went to Chez Billy to celebrate two birthdays. The food was excellent, & the salmon I ordered was done to perfection, w/a yummy crust on top. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, too. I had the Bordeau by the glass, & it was very nice. The wait person was very good about letting us try samples of wine before deciding. Oh, & the blue fish appetizer was also excellent. Since we had cake waiting at home, we did not order dessert...but we got a complimentary, & wonderful, chocolate torte w/ice cream to share, & each got a complimentary glass of champagne! Very nice touch! I will definitely recommend to friends.
Wonderful as usual. The soft-shell crab was superb! Wines were perfectly chosen to accompany our dinner, and service was warm, gracious and expert, both in the restaurant and the adjacent bar.
The service was great. Our server had solid knowledge of the food and drinks that we utilized to make our selections. The food was amazing, great flavor! This place is a short 15 min walk away from the Keendy Center which is idea for pre-play brunch or diner. They also have an outside patio that holds several four tops or a small party.
The food was rich and delicious. Service was on point. I would recommend to anybody looking for French cuisine. I will have to definitely come back again.
Outdoor area was very cute. Brunch was good and the waiter was super friendly. Loved the food and the service!
My wife's duck comfit was decidedly dry. My flash-fried tuna nicoise was good but I would have liked a little lettuce in it. My pate appetizer was mediocre. The ambient noise was low and the restaurant's decor was pleasing. The service was excellent. We've had excellent meals here in the past, so hope the two dishes criticized here were flukes.
Great decor and service! The food was delicious!! Would highly recommend.
Lovely restaurant, delicious food, attentive service, excellent cocktails.
Weekday dining and they take reservations on Open Table up to 10:00 pm. Don't consider going after 8:30. Food was fine, arrived at 9:45, spent $300 and were hurried out the door by 10:45. Sorry to inconvenience them.
I had not been to this restaurant in many years and I was truly impressed with the current decor, service, and most of all the food. Truly superb!
I celebrated my birthday with friends. The food was great....I ordered the trout and they ordered the salmon. All delicious. But the total was so expensive considering we had just an appetizer and an entree, no dessert and I felt guilty about that. I had a mocktail, but the others did not. Service was good, no complaints about that or the food. It never disappoints in that regard.
Delicious and lovely as usual. Great table service.
Fabulous French food-!
Wonderfully surprised at this hidden (to me!) gem. Our server knew the menu inside out and described each dish with such skill our mouths watered with each ingredient! She said we would not be disappointed with any dish on the menu-and she was right! The cold corn soup was spectacular!!!
This is my second time dining at Billy Sud & it was equally impressive as the first time when celebrating my wife’s birthday nearly one year ago. This time around, we tried out the wine bar next door for a glass of wine, & found it truly charming. Dinner at the restaurant was of course out of this world! Everything is so tasty & it is very hard resisting the temptation to try everything!
Another great meal at billy sud. Trout was super as was soft shell crab. Salads verte light and wonderful
It is a real “go to” place.
The staff fitted us in at last minute and let us order from full restaurant menu at the bar
Lovely atmosphere and good food. Chef is able to offer some gluten free modifications and the wine we ordered was very good at a reasonable per bottle price. Service is excellent! Highly recommend.
I took a friend for a going away lunch. She wanted to try because she had heard it was good. And it was "good," a cute setting, good french bread (a french bistro should have good bread), my Niscoise salad was somewhat interpretive (seared tuna that was very, very rare and not much salad), and our server was wonderful, but I don't know that I would go back. It was pricey for lunch and I wasn't blown away.
Fantastic food, excellent service, and perfect ambiance.
Absolutely the best food in town these days. Too loud for elderly ears and too small for groups and hard to get reservations, but we'll keep coming back again and again and again.
Delicious food at every level. Truly enjoyed the volouté of corn soup as a starter - fresh melon flavor infused cream-cased corn soup with a few mint leaves that add to the great taste. My wife enjoyed her usual - the duck confit - while I regaled myself with the grilled trout with lemon caper butter.
I brought a visiting friend for what has been a great experience before. Still great, and I’ll go back, but the spice on the tuna override its flavor.
Highly recommend. The gazpacho soup (corn) was truly superb. I contemplated ordering a second bowl for dessert. Beef bourguignon was very good. Quiet at 5pm.
What a delightful smaller restaurant, casual but with quiet quality. Each person's meal was quiet good to exceptional (the pate is especially exceptional, as is the simple bibb salad), with attentive engaging service and the ability to talk at a civilized level. We didn't dine outside but it's a great space there.
This was our second lunch at Chez Billy Sud this year and we look forward to our next visit. The space reminds us of a chic French bistro and the service is excellent. Our waiters have always been quite attentive but not at all intrusive. If they don't know about menu items, they will gladly go and ask the chef.
The food has been excellent and the prices are quite reasonable given the quality of the ingredients and the presentation of the dishes. Definitely in our top 10 of quality restaurants in the DC area.
Authentic French cuisine in an intimate beautiful setting. The staff were all lovely and contributed to the relaxed atmosphere. A little gem in Georgetown.
The food, service and ambience were phenomenal. A definite winner!
The food was delicious, the service impeccable - I had a wonderful birthday celebration.
Fabulous. Great food. Small and low key by food is great. Salads to start were no h wonderful. Soft shell crabs were superb as was trout and duck. All 3 salads were great too.
I absolutely loved my brunch experience at Chez Billy Sud. We were running late to our reservation and they held our table for us. The ambiance and natural light in the restaurant made it inviting and pleasant as soon as we walked in. My friends and I ordered their Chartreuse brunch drink special and it was delicious and summery. I had the croquet madame and it hit the spot. I am excited to come back for dinner!
I love the food, but the best thing is that Chez Billy Sud is one of the quietest restaurants in town. Please keep it that way -- no loud music. When I want to have a great conversation with a friend over a good meal, Chez Billy Sud is my choice.
My mother and I came to eat lunch here before a show at the Kennedy Center. We got the Croque Madame and the French toast special. Both were excellent.
Service was slow and food was average at best
Fantastic chef, fantastic service, strong and reasonable wine list, nice ambiance but not too precious. We’d become regulars if we lived in DC.
We went on a Thursday night, hoping for a quieter time - but, the restaurant is very popular, so the noise level was indeed "energetic." (Be sure to make reservations.) That said, the hostess seated us at a small table next to a wall, so we only had diners on one side - much appreciated. Our server, Andre', was great - pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. We both ordered the smoked fish rillettes to begin; one would have been sufficient to share, very rich. My mussels were quite nice and the accompanying frites pretty good (okay, we lived in Belgium, where we were spoiled by mussels and frites - the latter fried twice in varying temperatures to make them perfectly crispy). My husband said his duck selection was delicious (he's quite the foodie, and a good chef himself, so that's a real compliment). We recommend visiting the adjacent bar before or after dinner, the cocktail menu has some interesting concoctions. We loved the Great Secret, and Negronis were done well.
