Chapter One - Guilford
Great brunch menu! Dined outside on a beautiful Sunday
We went for a late lunch on Saturday. Such a cute spot overlooking the green. We shared a bunch of appetizers, all of which were great, and even tried a couple of desserts. The cocktails were amazing, and everything inside was adequately spaced for Covid. Our server Sebastian was friendly, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Will definitely go back!
Awesome ! Food fabulous and service great!
Due to the wind we did have to move indoors, but it was nicely spread out and we did not feel unsafe. The restaurant was very clean. Food was excellent. Service was a little slow, but not unacceptable. Overall, it was a nice brunch and we will definitely go again!
We recently moved back to Guilford after many years away and have been catching up on the local restaurants. This week we tried Chapter One and couldn’t have been more impressed. While outdoor dining is running out of time, we were able to enjoy a chilly but manageable night on their patio, which is very nice and reasonably heated via overhead propane heating units. The patio is something that we look forward to visiting often in the spring and summer season because it looks to be a great spot.
There were four of us dining on Saturday and everyone found the food to be excellent. We started with a squash soup special, calamari and some little necks. All were well prepared, very tasty and they were delivered very timely. In fact, the service was excellent overall.
Three of us enjoying a salmon with spinach and risotto special, while our fourth had a shrimp salad. Again, everything was great and we enjoyed all aspects of the meal. We finished off with pumpkin cheese cake (insanely good) and an apple cobbler that was average only due to the apple skins being a little too firm.
We are very pleased to know that Chapter One will be a go to restaurant for us and e highly recommend it.
Chapter One's outdoor patio on a sunny fall afternoon is delightful....try the classic Mac Lobster Mac n Cheese.
Food took quite long. First brunch of shrimp and grits was lumpy and sour. Ordered eggs etc and got it quickly. We were charged for each cup of coffee(even half cups to warm it) we spent something like $17 on bean water. We had to ask for many things repeatedly- ketchup, salt and pepper, spoon...
This may not be our brunch spot.
We tried Brunch on Saturday. It was an order off the menu & the menu was quite large with some very creative items.
Food was very good, be patient the service is slow.
We met friends for Sunday brunch. The waiter was attentive and helpful. I had the Sea eggs Benedict, delicious with lobster claw meat. My husband enjoyed the lobster omelette. Our friends both had the Farm eggs Benedict which they enjoyed. The Bloody Mary is spicy good!
I order fried avocado and the vegetarian rice dish both super salty
Hubby had clam chowder but there was no clams in it and overall he felt it had a very unique flavor to it
I can’t say we will be back soon hoping it was just a bad night for the kitchen
We are locals. I’m afraid Chapter One was disappointing. Food was mediocre, drinks straight up were loaded with ice. Our last time at Chapter One.
Sat outside and there was no heater next to our table. Freezing.
Sitting outside was perfect with the weather the night we were there.
Social distancing rules were in place.
The outside area was light up nicely.
Wait time for drinks/water... 15 minutes +
Dinner specials were presented long after we had our menus, 1/2 hour.
We waited almost an hour for our dinner but it was our first night out since March so it was okay.
Dinner was as delicious as all the to-go meals we have gotten from Chapter One.
A memorable wedding anniversary dinner.
We had a wonderful outdoor dining experience. We were welcomed at the hostess stand & seated to a nice table outside which was socially distance by others. The temperature was comfortable and there were standing heat lamps near by to give warm as needed. The menus had some great options. Our wait staff was VERY attentive!! We enjoyed our meals and had a lovely dining experience. Would recommend to anyone. Love Chapter One!!
Event: Shuck it Sunday - all you can eat raw bar- quaint place, service was great as well as the atmosphere. Had live music - all in all a great time
We had a great dinner last night !! I had the scallop risotto and my husband had shrimp scampi it was delicious !! Great atmosphere too !! We will be going back again !!
Sat outside on the patio, very nice. They have heaters now which is great as the weather is getting colder. Food was good, although the service was very slow.
The all you can eat clams oysters and shrimp was amazing ! The only issue we really had was with the service being very dlow
We had a very disappointing dining experience. We ordered clams on the half shell which were fresh and tasty but we were given a gelatinous cocktail sauce that was tasteless. We also ordered very crispy calamari which came out more soggy than crispy and was served with 2 tasteless sauces While the Caesar Salad Was fresh and crispy, the dressing had the consistency of mayonnaise and had little taste. One of the entrées we ordered was shrimp scampi. The linguini had very little sauce on it and the shrimp had not been sautéed in the scampi sauce. When we asked for more scampi sauce, they brought out what appeared to be an Alfredo sauce. The other entree was Cavatelli Bolognese which came out also with little sauce that wasn’t as good as Chef Boyardeeand a cut up mealy meatball. We asked for some more Bolognese sauce and they brought out a Vodka-like sauce which was also tasteless. Worst meal we have ever had.
Weather was most pleasant adding to a comfortable outdoor dining experience. Food was fair. Server was efficient and pleasant.
Food was mediocre. Service was very slow . It was a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy the yard and the sculpture. If it had not been so enjoyable outside I would have probably given it 2’s across the board. I went once and it was great but the last 2 times it was pretty bad. I miss Whitfields.
A very nice outdoor experience during covid dining. Our food was very good. Pablo, our server, was excellent!
The outdoor seating was very comfortable and enjoyable. The food delicious and reasonably priced. The musical entertainment was excellent. Our server, Brian, was charming and attentive.
This was my first time at Chapter One and I'm already looking forward to a return visit! Bucolic outdoor seating with comfortable spacing between tables and the best lobster roll I've ever had; thank you for such a memorable experience.
a nice outside patio and of course good food and great service.
Always an enjoyable experience
We made a reservation many days in advance and requested outdoor seating, as had been recommended by others. There was no distinction in outdoor seating between patio or on the lawn. Disappointingly, we weren’t placed in the more desirable patio, as we learned, but were on the lawn downwind of the fire pit without a reasonable explanation for our placement despite advanced reservation and multiple other available tables. Otherwise, the food was tasty and the service was friendly and mostly available.
We ate outside near the firepit, which started out smokey. The smoke eventually settled down and it was a nice ambiance. Candles would be a good addition to the tables.
My food was delicious but the temp was a little cool (salmon and mashed potatoes).
I was assured that my beer was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but it was not.
Our waiter (Brian?) was terrific!
Staff and ambiance makes the place. Drinks were good but the food was terrible. I’m extremely disappointed with the whole meal. Apps, entree and dessert were just down right bad!! we drove 40 minutes to have a meal that was way overpriced and just awful!!
Always good. An absolute must during Covid because of the large backyard.
Nice outdoor dining. Basic. Not memorable.
Enjoyed sitting on nice patio for dinner. Staff was great
My shrimp scampi was great how ever my husband's clams were large and chewy. We liked the atmosphere in the back garden and our waiter was good food was warm and we were lucky there was a lovely breeze that night.
Excellent service and food. Wonderful patio behind building
It took a long tome for someone to approach us at out table and give us a menu. We had to wave someone down to order. Then it took too long to get our food.
Went out for an evening with my siblings and our spouses and was very excited to try chapter one. We had a reservation but unfortunately had to wait in the driveway and then in the Adirondack chairs for more than half an hour before we were seated. The fire pit & ordering drinks was nice and this wouldn't have been a big deal alone. We then waited very long periods of time to get each type of menu, waters, utensils, and place our orders - although our water was very kind and attempting to be attentive, it was clear that he was completely overwhelmed and the restaurant was totally overbooked. All the tables around us had the same experience - constantly looking around wondering where the waiter, drink, food, or bill was. We finally got our food and only 4 of 5 of us were served. I waited patiently, thinking that the kitchen was just backed up, but 10 minutes later my dinner wasn't there and I flagged down the waiter who hadn't noticed. Another 20 minutes passed and everyone had finished, the waiter had come back and assured me it was coming but I still hadn't gotten any food. Another 5 and it finally came. I thought for sure they'd comp my meal or our drinks but half an hour later when we had to ask twice for our bill, nothing was removed. We had been there for hours and were ready to go home so we just paid and left but it was disappointing. The menu is great, fantastic cocktails, super patio, and the waiter was very friendly but the kitchen is woefully understaffed and the management completely overbooked the place. I want to say I'd come again but I'm not sure - definitely not with anyone I'm trying to impress or if I ever have somewhere to be within 3 hours. I hope they can improve!
Very pleasant outdoor setting, with tables set comfortably apart from others. Service was slow but pleasant. Bread was offered as an afterthought. My meal, salmon with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, was very good but I had to send it back to be cooked through as I had clearly ordered it. Server took care of it promptly and apologized. Food and wine were priced a little high but overall a very nice experience and I would go back.
Food was excellent. Attentive and friendly service. We had a nice outdoor table on the lawn by the sculptures and tiki torches. My family was visiting and commented how they thought the restaurant was excellent and had a nice time.
Nicely set for Covid distancing, excellent food.
Chicken teriyaki was too salty. I had to send back. The fried calamari was under cooked - coating all fell off a soggy mess
