For our annual birthday celebration with friends we chose Cathryn's because we were there a few months ago and it was wonderful so we decided to go back and boy were we right to do so. This restaurant is a gem. Worth traveling 40 minutes over the river to get to.
First time at this restaurant. I had the pumpkin soup, the hanger steak and the baked apple. The soup was good, the steak as well but the baked apple was just that, a baked apple. So don’t get it.
Wonderful restaurant with great service and amazing food and drinks. We just never had a meal less than exceptional at Kathryns.
We highly recommend the calves liver, cod, salmon and calamari. Also had salads and desserts. All were fantastic.
Excellent food, a little tight with the tables in the space
It was our first time dining at Cathryn's the experience was quite nice. Would like to stop in for a drink at the bar sometime while walking around Cold Spring and see how that is. We will return.
We arrived a few minutes early for our lunch reservation. The restaurant was empty. Within 10 minutes every table inside and out was filled. We ordered 2 entrees from the specials and we wanted to go back on the way out of town and order them again to take home. Our meals were excellent.
They don’t check their open table reservations
Very bad experience. Table mixup by restaurant handles terribly and with lack of professionalism. They seem to treat people like tourists they'll never see again
Ambiance and hospitality were poor and un-accommodating. We had a rsvp for 2, they seated us next to kitchen; did not give us option to sit at any open table towards front or outdoors. We are new to the area, and we heard great things about the place; and while the food was pleasant it wasn’t extraordinary enough to suffer the hospitality. We don’t think we’ll be back again
An outstanding meal in every aspect.
Delicious food, great service and lovely atmosphere.
Dining at Cathryn’s is always an enjoyable experience. Ambiance is pleasant, service is good and most important the food is usually quite good. I gave the food 4 instead of 5 because of occasional inconsistencies e.g. the calamari appetizer was just OK . The chef tried to outdo the tried and proven recipe and missed the mark! What saved the day was the delicious penne with ground sausage and peas in a delectable sauce. You can’t win them all!
Delicious pasta dishes. Squid ink tagliatelle with shrimp was outstanding. Nice garden area to sit outside.
My server was exceptional. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped me put together three courses that suited a smaller appetite. The mussels were particularly good! The wine options were also excellent.
We had an early curtain at HVSF. Our server got us in and out with plenty of time to spare but without rushing us. We all had the trout, which was the best we have had anywhere this summer. The wine list offered many attractive choices. This veteran spot is as good as ever.
This eatery is earthy and relaxed; the menu is unusual. We ordered fresh pasta with clams, mussels, and a half lobster. The lobster was a bit underdone, but nevertheless everything was tasty. The ice cream we ordered for dessert was delicious, the portion small. As for prices, they were significantly higher than the ones appearing on the menu linked to OpenTable, which apparently needs to be updated. Hence the 3 stars for "value".
Calm atmosphere. Lovely helpful servers. Tasty and varied pastas and salads as well as main courses. Very convenient to Boscobel. Charming location in Cold Spring. Very nice
What has happened to Cathryn’s?
Great food and nice outside dining in the garden. Our server was very attentive and the food was delicious. We will definitely be dining there again.
My birthday brunch! Lovely garden excellent service & food!
A trip to Cold Spring is never complete without a stop at Cathryn's. Good food, nice atmosphere. Try it!
A lovely dining room, as well as a charming outdoor seating area (it was too hot for us to sit there). Food was very well prepared; service was attentive. Only complaints: portions are a bit too small; bread was too hard and dry and it lacked flavor.
My husband and I had a very good early dinner at Cathryn's before going to a performance at the close-by Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. The menu was fairly standard for an Italian bistro, with a variety of appetizers, salads, pastas and meat/fish dishes. The room is very bright, tables are well-spaced and the wait staff is highly competent. We were very pleased with our dinner as well. We had an interestingly prepared calamari appetizer, with a hint of smokiness in the sauce, a very tasty lightly dressed green salad and two mains. My husband had a pasta which, while not a huge portion, was well-prepared and I had a risotto special, which included some of the freshest mussels I have ever eaten and peas, an excellent dish. The wine by the glass was very reasonable and of good quality. I think my only quibble what that the bread they served that night was not fresh (it was a Monday so that might be why) but that shouldn't happen in a restaurant of this quality. We ate inside, but the outside seating was off the street and looked inviting too. Definitely recommend that you give Cathyrn's a try if you are in Cold Spring, we'll be back too.
This is our favorite restaurant in Cold Spring. Service is always attentive. Every dish is delicious and well prepared. Highly recommend Cathryn’s. We been dining here for about 15 years.
We went there on a Monday night when they were short staffed and had a large party and several other groups. Our waitress apologized for not coming to greet us as soon as we came in. But ready we did not wait that long. We definitely felt that given the number of patrons vs. the number of staff on hand that the device was extraordinary. The food, as always was excellent. I would heartily recommend Cathryn's to anyone. We have been there a number of times and each time we feel that we have had a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.
Food was good, portions were small for main dishes.
We have eaten here many times, but we won’t be returning. The pasta selections were unappealing, and overall, the lack of menu items with fresh summer food was inexplicable. A starter of burrata was good, but what happened to this month’s widely available and delicious tomatoes? A main.dish of artichoke pasta consisted of a few acidic marinated (canned) artichokes tossed into a serving of noodles. The server was very efficient and welcoming, and it’s a nice ambience, but the food is not worth eating.
It was a nice little town dining experience. The staff didn't have us on their list, then indicated they keep the OpenTable reservations on a different list. We ate at an early hour because we had an event that evening, so a reservation wasn't extremely important. The wait staff was very attentive. The food was delicious. I had the pork chop that was on special and they altered the sides for me because of an allergy, yet it was all good. My husband had there herb pasta pomodoro. The herbs are in the pasta itself. Simple, yet elegant. I would totally dine there again.
Sebastian was our waiter, and couldn’t have been more patient with a brat like me. Oysters and the money bags pasta as apps. Was to die for. Half portion. I had the linguini Nero with shrimp and my wife had the trout shrimp special. Pan seared to perfection. Licking the plates.
Excellent food and service. You won’t be disappointed. Fabulous bar, and wine. We topped it off with the soufflé which I could have snorted! Yummy and lovely ambience
Wonderful service and excellent food - a perfect combination!
We had a 5:30 dinner reservation for 4, planning to attend a nearby show. We alerted the staff, and we were indeed able to get to the show at 7. Only one server was working though and one large table near us as well as a number of smaller tables. So service wasn't as attentive as we would have liked; meals were OK - nothing to write home about.
Wonderful meal...we cleaned our plates! The salmon was perfectly prepared, as was the spinach ravioli with brown sage butter(one of our menu favorites). The swordfish special (served with fennel and orange) was an interesting option, too. Altogether successful dinner.
Came with my daughter and her husband.....who are very picky “foodies”. They loved it....as did we!
Very attractive venue. Waiter charming and helpful, making good menu and wine suggestions. He disappeared for long stretches at times. Excellent appetizers included mushrooms, oysters, duck. Lamb ragout wonderful. Entree standouts duck, hanger steak, mixed seafood pasta dish. Snapper disappointing - very ordinary. Overall we had a very enjoyable time.
Cathryn's is a "go out of our way to get there" restaurant. The two of us have eaten there every year or so for about 20 years. Cathryn is usually there and she runs a "no nonsense" establishment. This is high praise from me. Her menu is interesting, the food is great, and her location in Cold Spring is an enchanting experience. We first noticed the place in about 1999 when we saw an attractive garden with a nice lady pruning some flowering shrubs. It was Cathryn and we decided to try the restaurant based on the meticulous care the garden was receiving. It was a winning bet! Don't miss this place.
Burrata was flavorless but everything else was good!
Cathryn’s is our favorite restaurant in Cold Spring. We’ve been dining here for years. We especially like the romana salad and the tagliolini with the half lobster, clams and mussels. The service is always excellent. Highly recommend dining at Cathryn’s.
Got there waited at the bar for a table but no bartender each server is responsible for the drinks for their table so we didnt get good service there .when we sat our table was very close to the others around us they could easily hear us as us them food was expensive and average on the plus the owner was very attentive even leveled our wobbly table
Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Cold Spring and in the Top 3 in the Hudson Valley. Always incredible food, ambiance quaint yet busy.
Always a great meal. Love this place!
