Casa Nonna - Midtown
The selection of pastas was fairly limited. How’s that possible for an Italian restaurant? However, food was good.
We thought everything was perfect from the beautiful ambiance to the yummy food and drinks. We were there for happy hour and really enjoyed the meatballs, calamari, rice balls and pizza was so delicious. Spacious seating was nice to have conversation within your party. Definitely would go back when in nyc.
unexpected large open restaurant in quiet neighborhood
Spoke to the waitress about my dairy allergy ahead of ordering anything, she was knowledgeable about the menu and answered my questions about ingredients. Often, if a server is unsure, i will request to speak to the kitchen/chef, but she knew right away which dishes I could not have. We ordered, ate, and were still hungry, so we asked for another menu and told her we would be ordering more. Then she disappeared for 45 minutes and we were forced to order with another waiter. We ordered the Spaghetti Pomodoro, which as described on the menu, simply said "Tomato, Basil, Olive Oil" with NO mention of cheese or dairy. The waitress even came back over and we informed her that we ordered another dish to share, and she said "yes, the spaghetti pomodoro", we confirmed.
I started eating the Spaghetti when it was brought out, only to start to feel my throat tingle as I was having an allergic reaction, I noticed there was melted cheese sticking to my fork that had been mixed in with the tomato sauce.
I treated myself for my allergy and thankfully I am ok, but someone with a more severe or deathly allergy could have died. The manager comped the meal, as she should have, but someone's life is not valued at a the cost of their bill. If you know your table has an allergy, be present and don't disappear off of the floor for 45 minutes when you know they want to order food, and when you know what they ordered, make sure you check every order for possible allergens. I know not all restaurants cater to allergies, and it is not required, but it is 2019, allergies are extremely common, and becoming more so. Update your menu to include allergen information, and educate your staff about how to handle guests with allergens.
Great experience from the moment we walked into the door. Great food. The Branzino and truffle risotto were outstanding. I will be back next time I’m in NYC.
Food was standard Italian. Service was beyond awful. Literally no one knew who was our server and no one took responsibility for the table despite me asking 2 different members of the staff. We were there for over 2 hours while the parties on either side of us were taken care of in 45 minutes.
Casa Nonna has quickly become our favorite go to place. From the very start, when we were seated in the regular dining room, and asked if we could relocate to the bar area, in order to take advantage of Happy Hour prices, we were gladly accommodated. In the bar area, we quickly were greeted by a very courteous server. She treated us like we were the only patrons, throughout the entire meal.
We ordered the calamari, and shared the Margarita Pizza. Both were enjoyable. Our drinks, Blood Orange Margarita and the Montepulciano wine were perfectly made.
All in all, we highly appreciate the courtesy, great customer service, and ambiance of Casa Nonna. It is establisments, like this, that help make NYC, the greatest city in the world.
The hostess forgot about us. The menu was very limited and my husbands meal was wrong so I ate alone and then he ate alone when his finally arrived. I will never go back.
Fantastic place to eat. We had the Cesar salad, meatballs with the ricotta/Parmesan cheese and the truffle gnocchi. Perfect!!!!
Discovered thru OT as the restaurant “nearest” an alumni cocktail venue we had attended (450 feet, 1.5 blocks), this place amazed. A “Super Red” wine from Tuscany was as good as all the wines you had there that don’t get imported here. Tortellini so light and tender it almost blew away. Bruschetta so good it had to be shared, especially the “liver” portion, which was a foi gras type without the inhumanity. Service was over the top, atmosphere quiet cool in a corner.
Very spacious for a nyc restaurant. Great service. Great food. The meatballs tasted like my grandmothers!
Everything about this place is perfect:
Felt welcome and at home
Will definitely come back
Celebrated our anniversary. WE love this place: enough space between tables, conversation possible, food great, attentive service.
Great veal. Service was top notch
Missed my train at Penn Station. Wanted a restaurant close to Penn Station that was high quality. My husband is an Italian chef from Italy so I’m very particular. The food was amazing! The server was so kind and attentive. The ambiance was beautiful, very authentic Italian. Loved everything about it! Will definitely return! Highly recommend
Our waiter was amazing
Recommended a Chardonnay that we loved
Food was great
The food was fine, not bad, yet not special in any way. The portions are ok. The ambience is very nice. The server was quite good. Location was very convenient for the show I was seeing. The value was poor. Really overpriced for what it was.
Is was a birthday and they made the birthday girl feel wonderful
Food was great. Relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff. Airy, cool, hip and close to the train. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend this place. Loved the Italian soda.
The food was the best Italian food that I’ve ever eaten. Excellent service, I asked to speak to the chef and shake his hand it was so delectable. The waitress even gave us a cheesecake on the house.
Food was great but service was so laid back that it took three hours for a two course meal.
We had a fantastic time. Love the restaurant.
Food was average, but well below expectations for an expensive NYC Italian restaurant. Pasta was overcooked, the seafood had a bad odor, and the serving sizes were very small. All plates were very over priced. Would never go again and would not recommend.
This is my second time there - and I was just as impressed as the first time. Our group of 6 met there for dinner before the Hugh Jackman show at MSG. We let the waiter know and he was timely with our drinks, appys and entrees without us feeling rushed. Everything we ordered was awesome! Tasty, delicious and cooked just right! Yep, will definitely be back next time I'm in the area!
Good food fast service. Pricey but that’s Manhattan!
Our favorite restaurant in this area. Very gluten-free friendly (I have Celiac). The pannacotta with passionfruit purée is amazing and gluten-free!!! My daughter (not Celiac) said the pizza is as good as what she’s had in Italy! Dined here twice this week!
The waitress pretty much got everything wrong on the order. My dinner salad came out with my husbands side salad. So I was essentially finished with dinner before he got his. Then his meal came out with the wrong sauce. We were in a rush so didn’t complain. Our bread came out with the bill !! On the way home my husband got very sick which lasted well into the next day. Obviously from the food. There was no excuse for the poor service. We were there an hour earlier than our reservation and the restaurant was empty. I am sorry to say would not recommend or return.
fabulous RESTAURANT, NOW ONE OF MY FAVORITES. Food is excellent
service wonderful. Beautiful place to dine with either friends or business.
Will always return. What an oasis in the area.
Food was delicious. Service was attentive. Prices were a bit high for pasta.
Food was good and the place was decorated well. It had a nice atmosphere.
Food was outstanding and service amazing. We have brought friends and family here a number of times and have never had a negative experience!
Delicious!!! Saggio Vecchio was great! Apps: spinach salad, fried mozzarella and meatballs - ALL amazing! Agnolotti was on point!! Sea bass was also delicious!
The music was not right for a restaurant. It was bar music.
Music doesn't work with type of place; too loud and wish it were more 'background'.
Wonderful celebration for my wife's birthday. Friends joined us from Boston and Philadelphia and loved the place. Great meal and great service. Would recommend to anyone for dinner or a special celebration. We will be back next time we visit NYC>
Love this place. Spaghetti and meat ball is awesome!!! The bread is addictive. Pizzas are great. All around one of my favorites.
Terrific food, good service and a nice atmosphere! Still as good as ever.
The food was absolutely delicious but the portion sizes are a lot smaller than what was expected. In addition to this, I felt that service was a bit too slow from the time we sat down to the time we had our orders taken and every interaction in between. Despite these two things, the overall experience was amazing; everything else was spot on and the atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect for a relaxed lunch date.
Was there on a slow Tuesday. Service was pretty inattentive. Food was fine but nothing special, but the prices felt way too high.
We had a family dinner here and everything was just perfect. Servers were very accommodating and patient with our large group. The food was delicious. This is a great restaurant for groups that’s close to Penn Station.
