Captain Moonlite is an eatery and bar all about delicious food, tasty wine and above all… good vibes.
Housed within the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club (one of the Surf Coast’s best kept secrets) Captain Moonlite is tucked into the cliff-edge overlooking the Anglesea surf beach and further afield toward Point Addis & Port Phillip Heads.
Chef Matt Germanchis (Pei Modern, MoVida, Pandora’s Box) and partner Gemma Gange (Pei Modern, Jacques Reymond, Stokehouse) lead the team in providing coastal European food in a relaxed & comfortable setting so you can sit back and enjoy one of the best views along the Great Ocean Road.
Excellent food - as good as/better (subjective) Pressclub, Gladioli etc. Good presentation and well prepared with a lot of attention to detail. Good wine list. Highly recommend to anyone.
Only improvement is the seating on the benches with the cushions is clumsy. I see that extra cushions are provided but to improve the seating. The venue has a great view.
Wonderful food; friendly, low key service and beautiful outlook; a hypnotic & magnificent view of the ocean from the cliffs above Anglesea. Highly recommended
Great casual seaside ambiance coupled with beautiful food and service.
Sadly my main meal was not cooked correctly and minimal apology ensured. No compensation was offered for the inconvenience/wait time whilst my partner finished his meal. The wait staff announced quite loudly to the kitchen from the restaurant "she says it is rare not medium" - I pointed out to him on hearing this I'm not a she....
The food and service was amazing. I will definitely be going back.
Amazing food set against a beautiful backdrop. Excellent attentive service. Love coming here
Love captain moonlight, amazing menu. Always a great night out
Travelled from Melbourne especially for a birthday dinner for two. Not disappointed. Great menu with many share plate options, overall a delicious meal, interesting wine list, friendly and attentive service. In fact went back next morning for breakfast.
Greeted and farewelled by staff. Very pleasant waiter with good suggestions. No attitude and no pressure - just as it should be. Thank you.
Absolutely amazing food and don't be fooled by the 'starter' description, the share plates are huge and more like mains, we were super full!
Had a great meal. Staff were excellent. Can't wait to go back.
Great view and very good food. We had entre of sardines which were a tad dry, leek an corn croquettes (sensational), mains snapper fillet and bugs. Both very good. Ginger broth with bugs was exceptional. Hadn't been back for about 18 months after an average meal but they're back on our list again. Well worth a visit.
We were very happy with our experience at Captain Moonlite. We were given a table close to the window - what an amazing view. Our meal was delicious. Loved the share plates and my snapper was outstanding. The wait staff were very personable- so nice when there is a real connection.
The Crab donuts and the Green Vegetables were a highlight, other dishes less so. Service was episodic, very pleasant when it arrived, but inefficient.
Delicious food and lovely staff. We loved the share plates and our only regret was that we haven’t been here sooner. Have booked in for next time already.
Always wonderful dining here. The food interesting with new combinations each time we visit and delicious discoveries. The view unsurprisingly voted one of top ten restaurants in Australia. Helpful and friendly staff continue to make this relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Nice food and good service.
Limited mains menu with only 3 non-shared dishes. No pork, pasta or chicken dishes.
Amazingly for today no vegetarian main option.
Air conditioning struggled on a day of only 33 degrees though. Still worth a visit.
Beautiful food, excellent service, a very satisfying evening.
Excellent service, friendly, attentive and a great range of food and drink
This was my 2nd time here and Captain Moonlight never disappoints. I would say this is the best place to eat in Anglesea. Food and service is excellent.
Thank you for a great night out.
The food was amazing and the Birthday Boy from the UK was well impressed.
Will definitely be back :)
Absolutely oursdtanding food and service!! Lovely staff who were very obliging and made our lunch wonderful.
It was our second visit to your restaurant for lunch, (25th Oct 2019) this time we brought friends and everything was as we remembered. Great food, wonderful service and a stunning view! And I don’t doubt for a minute, that on our next visit, it will be any different. My daughter is desperate to visit. Thank you to all concerned who contributed to our experience. I’ve just seen the next part to fill out below, can I say this, the quality of food was excellent I don’t know if it was organic, locally grown or what, obviously all that is a plus, but anyone who is a foodie, must make the trip. Lovely good, great service. Very noisy. Amazing view
The food is delicious, the fish was very tasty, cooked perfectly, fresh and flavourful. We missed out on the oysters though, we were the second sitting.. We haven’t had a bad experience, been several times!
Slow cooked lamb very salty. A cream cheese type of sauce just didn’t work. A jus would have been better. Maybe the cream sauce was supposed to go with the beans and almonds????? But this leave the meat on its own with no sauce.
Butter beans with whole almond chopped in half . Totally unable to eat as a combination because you can’t put a almond on a fork with out scooping it up after you have a mouthful of beans to experience the two combinations together. A better way would be to use slithered almonds instead. Even so no cohesion with the two!
Then again with the side dish of broccoli and whole hazelnuts arrrgh.
Trying to be fancy but not practical or tasty just awkward.
Why do staff not bring out cracked pepper had to eat half of the meal without it.
Had to call the waitress as she was walking off very embarrassing a quick glance to our table would have indicated that we needed pepper.
Waitress was very nice and chatty and attentive except for missing the pepper.
Dessert we had was cream caramel this was lovely. The porcelain dish that the desert was served in was ugly sorry to be so picky about this. But it all adds to the overall experience.
Overall the seperate dishes on the menu were non cohesive leaving the dinners confused on what to order. I noted that with the couple next to us were unable to make up their minds!
We were the same so we went for the shared lamb because it was just easier not a meal that I would have normally chosen on a hot night as it was!
The smaller meals are too hard to order because you don’t know how much to order until you see the meals and if you end up still hungry you have to consider your 2 hour time limit.
The view is the draw card but not the meals.
Hope this feedback helps
Superb site overlooking beach and sea. Excellent local produce, skilfully prepared. Very good overall experience. Highly recommended.
I missed the crisp 'breads' that we had the previous visit! My calamari / salad was fine but a wee bit more sesame dressing would be better. All in all, another satisfying lunch. We'll miss you when it closes for the reno.
Mind blowing food at reasonable prices equals sensational value dining. Lovely staff and stellar views. One of the surf coasts top picks. Can’t wait to go back
a great place. The view is the attraction but the food and service do not disappoint. service is a little too "visible" but efficient.
This is one of the midden gems of Victoria with outstanding food, great location and friendly staff. I will be recommending it to all my friends and be back there again.
It was really fabulous and I’ll be coming back soon.
As a fellow diner Melanie mentioned, every bite was just amazing. We’d have to agree, no disappointments on the 3rd or even 5th bite.
We had an amazing dinner at captain moonlite. Everything was spot on. Great views, friendly, helpful staff, great selection of gin and wine. The food was all delicious and came out in a timely fashion. Would definitely recommend it and can’t wait to go back
Amazing food! Menu Carefully explained by the delightful French waiter. Faultless service, great prices and quality products. Loved the whole experience ....will definitely be back.
Following a couple of failed attempts from me I finally got to dine at Captain Moonlite. We had a great evening that was relaxed, high quality and just what we needed following a rather trying day. The staff were professional and also knowledgeable. Our entrees of Kingfish and Mushroom /Cheese Croquettes hit the spot in a good way. Our mains were also excellent sticking to to the principal of good quality ingredients cooked simply and well. A couple of glasses of wine each had us very content. Happy to highly recommend if you are anywhere in the area- hard to beat....
Beautiful food with lovely service as always. Stunning views.
Delicious food, well presented. Not a large menu but plenty of variety beautifully cooked and so tasty. Good wine list with something to please everybody.
Fabulous food and great views make for a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. Always a favourite local Resturant to return to, and it never disappoints.
as always, every single bite of every dish was wonderful...beautiful produce, beautifully prepared. the warm mace-infused sauce on the creme caramel was insanely delicious...
