Captain Moonlite is an eatery and bar all about delicious food, tasty wine and above all… good vibes.
Housed within the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club (one of the Surf Coast’s best kept secrets) Captain Moonlite is tucked into the cliff-edge overlooking the Anglesea surf beach and further afield toward Point Addis & Port Phillip Heads.
Chef Matt Germanchis (Pei Modern, MoVida, Pandora’s Box) and partner Gemma Gange (Pei Modern, Jacques Reymond, Stokehouse) lead the team in providing coastal European food in a relaxed & comfortable setting so you can sit back and enjoy one of the best views along the Great Ocean Road.
As a frequent diner here there is good reason why we return. It is always welcoming, stupendous views. Daytime it looks over the surf below, sunsets brilliant and moonshine refe tions over the ocean exquisite. Importantly The food varied, innovative and divine flavours each time - both at lunch or dinner.
The food was excellent as was our table host, Maria. We loved it
Lovely food in a beautiful setting, not pretentious just delicious.
Excellent evening, menu is so varied, the whiting brilliant and the share mains great for four. Service staff knowledgeable and friendly. Best place on the west coast
Great service and the food was outstanding. Well done Captain Moonlite.
I lived the Thursday local dinner my dinning partner and I enjoyed our meal, the wine and of course our French hostess she is one of the best - Merci
Food was great! We arrived early 6:10 for a 6:30 booking. We were shown to our table however advised that our order could not be taken until 6:30 (to pace the kitchen). The restaurant was far from full so this was a little surprising. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were good. When ordered food was bought out pretty quickly and was very enjoyable. Overall great food, I just though that initial greeting could have been a little more accommodating. (I would understand if all tables were full and venue was extremely busy but it wasn’t).
We were thrilled with the night. 4 A good group number then you get to taste more choices from the menu.
We will be back.
All round great experience for dinner, great food and excellent service
Just the two of us this time and shared the entrees and one main course. The seafood is fabulously sourced. The school prawns were tasty but the standout was a whiting with a scollop mouse inside, with a roe and light sauce, then the hapuka was brilliant with pea and leek. Really subtle flavours and perfectly prepared. Two outstanding dishes. Of course the butterfish sashimi was excellent as well. The menu changes regularly so the kitchen is constantly creating new dishes which means they are not bored and neither is the patron. Service is informative, friendly and fast. Its just hard to get in even on a Sunday night! so definitely plan well ahead
Great views - staff amazing.
Our friends from Melbourne really enjoyed all aspects of the restaurant.
Our overall experience at captain Moonlite was great. The view, service and food were all very good. We recommend to book ahead to ensure that you can get in and reserve a good table. However, we ordered a leaf salad with pear and radish, which was basically a large bowl of lettuce. When we requested for some more pear and radishes to fill the remaining lettuce, our request was denied, as the chefs were “too busy” which was disappointing. We thought the food was overpriced.
This restaurant was recommended to me and so glad that I listened and made a booking, it was fabulous. We were down for a weekend away and it was some of the best food that I've had for a while.
A good and varied choice of entres and main courses. There were 5 in our booking and we all ended up trying a number of the dishes, and all of the desserts!
Great night I will definitely recommend and love to come back again.
Just go there and do it you wont regret it. Great food great service
Our experience was very good ,great service and most of the food was excellent
Great night as usual. Share entrees - crab doughnuts , sardines, calamari, and Haloumi cheese all brilliant , fast service. Then we shared the tuna in s fabulous sauce Nc the shared lamb. 4 of us all satisfied. The wine list has a few gems on it and they are happy to point you in the right direction . Book ahead as if hard to get in on a Saturday under three weeks. Service is excellent and the place has a wonderful holiday vibe - best restaurant on the surf coast.
Lunch for 2. Everything was cooked on point perfectly. We loved the homemade prawn crackers. A seafood haven, garnished with a post walk on the beach. Would definitely go backt to try rest of the menu.
Your restaurant was recommended by a friend. and we found it to be excellent. We were four adults. The view were spectacular - except for that huge bush on the right as you look out the window - it was a blur on the landscape - but I would believe that it can't be cut! - but would enhance the views 50%
Food was amazing and unique. We would happily recommend it to others.
Delicious, tasty, well presented food with good portions
Always a pleasure to enjoy a lovely meal here. The food and service are wonderful! We were there on Saturday for a special birthday dinner, and a very loud person at the adjoining table, managed to 'drown out' some of our special evening conversation. Unfortunately unavoidable. C'est La Vie...
We took our interstate visitors to what is now our favourite restaurant in Australia, after showing them the Great Ocean Road. They were blown away by the view, the food, and the overall experience. A wild and blustery day was no match for what Captain Moonlite had to offer. The menu featured some of our 'old' favourite classics, as well as some exciting brand new offerings. Wow. We will be back. Again!
The service was warm and friendly. Our maitre de was the perfect host-informative and she made sure we had everything we wanted. The food was exceptional-beautifully cooked and well presented. As for the setting, they do the best they can in an old surf club. Overall, a lovely evening and I look forward to our next visit.
Very disappointing evening for my family of three. Luckily I had rung ahead requesting vegetarian options as no vegetarian main course is available on the menu. We opted for cheese croquets as a starter - 5 croquets were served although 6 were requested, no garnish accompanied the very plan looking fish and or offer of bread followed as we waited more than 40mins for the only vegetarian option a mushroom risotto. It was a cold and rainy winter evening and the open fire remained unlit. Our plates were cleared before the meal was completed.
I could not speak highly enough of the wonderful restaurant Captain Moonlight. My family and I recently dined for my birthday lunch and the experience absolutely exceeded my expectations. The venue was casual, yet delightful with the amazing views of angelsea beach, the food was of top quality and the service was friendly. I'm looking forward to organising another lunch at Captain Moonlight again soon.
Absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious with excellent sized portions , very good service and great view. So cosy. We enjoyed every bit of it.
Wonderful food that was only let down by a couple of staff who when asked a question said that they didn’t know, and no follow up. It wouldn’t have been that hard to ask a senior staff member and rely the info to us.
Delicious food and great service. We had the prawns and croquettes for starters and they were delicious. Slow cooked lamb fell off the bone and had a smoky flavour. We had 2 sides of Greek salad and potatoes. Not enough room for dessert but as it was my birthday they bought out some donuts with chocolate sauce. A lovely experience to share with family.
Lovely staff, amazing food and an all round fabulous place.
If you are in the area, try it.
Will definitely go back.
Excellent food which included a great shared dish of roast lamb and the service was also terrific
If this was Melbourne there would be a que out the door for this weeks amazing specials of crab filled donuts & king George whiting Sooooo good.
Captain Moonlite exceeded our expectations greatly !! The food is all very tasty and approachable ( ate 8 dishes and not one dud ! ), the view is incredible even from the kid friendly end of the venue ( heaps of toys for kids to play with ) and the service is efficient and friendly. This the perfect lunch stop on the way to beach weekender !
By far the best lunch i have had in a long time, food was delicious!
Have been to Captain Moonlite several times and have always enjoyed the experience. The staff are friendly and the food is always excellent. I would highly recommend.
one of our favourites....great food, great service so you must book.
always experience something exciting and different on the menu.
Great location, terrific service and delicious food
Incredible food, amazing service. We ate almost everything in the starters/smaller section and couldn’t fault any of it. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The beautiful view was just a bonus. We can’t wait to go back again soon
Everything about this place is amazing. Loved it. Food and service is just next level. Thank you for a gorgeous dinner.
Food was completely sublime. I kept trying to think which was my favourite dish: whitebait 10/10 0ctopus 11/10 Slow cooked lamb 10/10
Could not fault a dish!
Can’t wait to get back and try seaweed and prawn cracker, spanner crab doughnut, port arlington mussels et al
Plus the amazing view over Anglesea beach, good wine list and excellent wait staff.
Any free tables?
Was really disappointed overall - food was different and I was very excited reading it on the menu - on our table we had the duck and the Hapuka and ricotta gnudi. The gnudi tasted great could have eaten a whole bowl of just them - the rest of the plate hmmm well I’m not really sure what was going on - fried kale, sloppy spinach, green tasteless sauce /water (?) and rather tasteless fish. The duck was a similar experience of a couple of things tasting good but rest either hard and under cooked and didn’t mesh with flavours. So the food was disappointing. And to add to this the sliding door was left open in which a chilly draft flowed (and yes we shut it to have it opened and left opened by a waiter/waitress so we were continually getting up and down to close) - so not great either and then stung 15% on top of the bill for public holiday. I do understand this although with the removal of previous penalty rates 🤔 is this level really necessary?
Anyway very underwhelmed and disappointing experience.
A very good meal
Entrees were a delight
Will go back again, in fact tried to book for next Easter when we will be down again
