Captain Moonlite
Captain Moonlite is an eatery and bar all about delicious food, tasty wine and above all… good vibes.
Housed within the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club (one of the Surf Coast’s best kept secrets) Captain Moonlite is tucked into the cliff-edge overlooking the Anglesea surf beach and further afield toward Point Addis & Port Phillip Heads.
Chef Matt Germanchis (Pei Modern, MoVida, Pandora’s Box) and partner Gemma Gange (Pei Modern, Jacques Reymond, Stokehouse) lead the team in providing coastal European food in a relaxed & comfortable setting so you can sit back and enjoy one of the best views along the Great Ocean Road.
Once again, a delightful experience: wonderful food, friendly & relaxed service, but sadly 1 March was Captain Moonlite’s last service. I seriously hope that they either win the tender to provide food services at the expanded Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club or they find new premises. Very sad for the people who run the business & the people working there. A great loss to the GOR.
We love Captain Moonlite and hope to see it back on the Surf Coast very soon. Where are we going to go for good reliable dining?
Amazing venue with tasty and different food
The staff were friendly, helpful and handsome!
Sincerely hope Captain Moonlight is Re established after renovations.
We enjoyed another great dinning experience at this iconic establishment. Along with several others we were lucky to be able to dine here again, before the closure on Sunday (01/03/2020) to accommodate the refurbishment of the ASLSC. Even though our visit was only two days before the final trading day there was no compromise on the quality and quantity of menu offerings. Well done guys on a great job - best wishes for the future. We hope to be able to enjoy your hospitality again in the near future. Cheers! David
Brilliant - great food, great location! Good wine choice and it’s got to be the best food on the coast!
This visit was to celebrate our enormous affection for captain moonlite and hope that it reinvents itself somewhere else nearby
This restaurant is in a unique location, the family-friendly ambience and the view over the local Anglesea ocean beach are precious. The food is delicious and affordable, and the service is friendly, hopefully these will be preserved after the extensive renovations to the surf club facilities currently under way.
We had fish n chips, and salad – and the amazing blackberry ice-cream. The lime cream on top and the sweet/?tangy base layer are delicious! (is that marscapone underneath?). Thank you Captain Moonlight, hopefully we will see you reopen when the renovations are finished!
Wonderful experience, the food was incredible, staff friendly and atmosphere very pleasant and calm.
Will definitely be back and highly recommend.
Excellent service. I gave my name and we were taken straight to our table. No delays or looking in books to see who we were or where we were to sit. Attentive service continued throughout . Entree mushroom rissoles were very nice, but could have been served with something decorative . We had the shared slow cooked Lamb for main which was sensational and ordered salad and chips on the side. Perfect! The price was very reasonable given the quality of the meal. We had a lovely evening looking out over the oceon.
We had a table of four food quality excellent beautifully plated. Wait staff about 7/10 other times 10/10 would recommend Captain Moonlite wherever the address. Kevin
as always, the beautiful staff, incredible setting and amazing food blew us away...
What a fabulous restaurant. Never disappoints Hope that we will be able to eat your delicious food again very soon.
We had heard great things prior but found that it just didn’t live up to expectations. The spectacular views were interrupted by cobwebs and blow flies. The food was a little underwhelming. The customer service was good but overall a costly lunch for an ordinary experience.
We took another couple with us for a birthday lunch. We shared the calamari, whole fish and the slow cooked lamb as well as a small salad and chips. That was plenty of food for 4. The bill wasn’t small but we were more than happy to pay for perfectly cooked food in a lovely setting.
We enjoyed it so much we are coming back with friends 4 days later, before it closes.
Shared plates and the calamari was terrific.
Would certainly recommend for special lunch or catch up with friends
I love this place. Informal dining with really good creative food. The view is to die for and it’s in glorious Anglesea. Best place in town.
Great food with a beautiful view to complement the experience.
Really delicious food and lovely service with friendly staff. Great location and should continue for a long time. Hope to be back
A most enjoyable experience. The food was very pleasant, as was the service. It is a delightful setting. Parking is a little awkward, especially while building is in progress.
Love the food and atmosphere
Wonderful ... food excellent as usual. Excellent value for money
Amazing food and wait staff, hope to get the opportunity to come back again.
This was one of the best, if not the best seafood meal, we have had in Australia. We choose to share five entrees, accompanied by a delicious salad and the best chips ever!! The quality and presentation of the food was excellent - service was attentive, efficient and friendly. Unfortunately we did not have room for desert which looked/sounded great/interesting. We have booked to return before the closure for renovations at the Surf Club and hope Moonlite remain in the neighborhood.
Lovely view with delicious food & fast service (a bit too quick!)
The bugs and octopus was amazing !
The food was very nice, however was overpriced. Fish and chips for $30 and not even one lettuce leaf with it . Salad would have been nice. The berry ice cream was superb.
Thankyou for a wonderful evening.
The food was excellent and your staff provided us with outstanding service throughout the evening.
Our guests from London, who read about you in England prior to their arrival were so impressed.
We may even visit Hervie's partner Rebecca in St. Kilda on March 1st. for a skate!
Thankyou again.
Really loved thus place located in the Surf Rescue Club building.
Wonderful sea outlook. Fabulous fish. Great service. Lovely historic Club photos. Quite idiosyncratic but in a good way. Limited parking.
Highly recommended
Wonderful food in a gorgeous location. Service was top notch too!
Absolutely loved the restaurant. Fabulous food with a second-to-none view. Well done, Gem!
Outstanding as always! Service was attentive and the food was delicious.
King George whiting was as good as it gets. Mussels were excellent
While the staff were friendly and the ambience nice we felt the food and presentation was poor. We had 2 entrees and then decided to leave based on the lack of quality. The mushroom fitters were quite tasty but served without garnish or any type of accompanying sauce. The zucchini fritters were simply tempura batter fried pieces of zucchini served without any garnish (details show you care) and accompanied by a lack lustre sauce.
Sorry Captain Moonlite but we feel a lot more attention to detail is required and less fried choices. The main courses we liked were only available as a serve for 2 people which is also very limiting. Anglesea really needs some good food choices, so please don't give up guys just keep improving and trying harder with more choices, attention to presentation and toss out the fryer ! or at least keep it on the back shelf - fresh is best !
All the best
