The outdoor dining setup was great and unique with the see-through pods mixed in with open table options for smaller parties. The food was great, but the service was subpar. After taking our dinner order, we never got our wine while we watched tables seated after us being attentively served with their drink orders. When we asked if we could have our wine order, the server looked at our table and asked us to confirm that we didn't get our drinks; the only drinks on our table were the water glasses. When we asked for more bread while we waited for our entrees, our server told us the restaurant was completely out of bread, because it had been so busy with all the recent news coverage. My friend asked again, and the server made a point of saying the restaurant really was out and that he wasn't trying to not give us more bread. We shared that we had wanted more bread to have with our mussels, and he said there simply was not more bread, apologized, and moved on. Seconds later as another server was passing by, my friend asked if we could have no bread, and without any fanfare or fuss, another basket of bread came. After this, our server never really came back to check on us except for at the end for dessert and our check. With COVID, we didn't want to reduce tip for the poor service as our goal was to support a local business and the employees, but this was not a great service experience even if the food was a great value.
Great meal, Great ambience. Will return. Didn't get to eat in a plastic igloo, but got the tent in the street which was made amazing by the sheet behind it.
Loved every single thing about their Covid solution!
Loved the bubble. Private yet could see outward..Food was excellent. My friend and I had the "chicken for 2". It was scrumptious Kudos to the chef! Excellent waiter...attentive..Ambience great!
Great food for value. Service perfect. A pity it’s far from our home
Great food, great ambiance. Outside dining bubbles were not too hot and service was good! Will definitely be back!
My wife and I have been enjoying Cafe du Soleil for years. We had friends visiting from out of town and wanted to introduce them to this restaurant. We almost always order the mussels which are fabulous. The new outdoor dining bubbles were fun and safe. Definitely try Cafe du Soleil for good food and a safe and healthy environment.
As a person visiting the city during a pandemic they made me feel safe and comfortable the food was divine and the cocktail was a little pricey but worth the cost. The staff was extremely attentive. Would definitely visit again when I am visiting NYC.
Waitservice a bit rushed and could have used some friendliness. A bit of the DMV. Food is reasonably priced and good. We had the Vichissoise, and pate, both good and generous servings. The red snapper provencal was over salted but good otherwise. the coq au vin was excellent. Wine list is a few different house wines all reasonably priced.
The domes certainly make one feel secure and the tables between the domes and the sidewalk also feel isolated. Will come again. good value for the money.
Crab/shrimp sw..very little crab/shrimp,2 much mayo,dry brioche..beef tips w/mash..yuk..small portion/big price..sooo disappointed
Great food great staff and dog friendly. We definitely come back
Great food, amazing service. I would certainly return.
I had heard about "The Bubble" and had to go see. In addition to the cool bubble we sat in, the food was amazing, and so was our waiter
The server was kind and professional.
Incredible pandemic set-up: distanced tables under a festive tent and in individual plastic "pods." Lively crowd, great food, excellent cheerful service by the masked staff, all on a beautiful autumn evening. Feels like New York is making the best of it.
Good overall experience, a little pricey for a neighborhood restaurant but food and service were good. Dining in a bubble was a different experience but provided some peace of mind.
Food was outstanding. Great recommendations from our server and so much flavor. Prompt. Will be back!
we ate in the little bubbles and it was fine. the food was great as always.
We socially distanced in space bubbles! Such fun! The food and the service were both great! I especially enjoyed the chicken and mushroom crepe. The accompanying green salad was perfectly dressed! Great music for a Sunday brunch!
Cafe du Soleil has done a terrific job of providing a satisfying dining out experience under the circumstances. The menu offers variety and the service was excellent.
A lovely cool day for this outdoor brunch. The bubbles for weather protection are brilliant. The brunch menu is great and wonderful value. happy to have the Cafe in our neighborhood
Loved the bubble tents to keep diners safe. The lights and recorded music make for a pleasant ambiance. The service is great. Loved our waiters French accent. The food was well prepared, arrived in a timely fashion and was delicious. It’s definitely a neighborhood gem
We had Sunday Brunch with 5 persons in mid-September. Service staff and Manager were very accommodating when we had some special seating requests. All were very friendly. Seating was outdoors with sufficient distance in between. The area was decorated in a fun way with colorful umbrellas and music was playing in the background. Ample dishes are offered on the menu, though hardly any vegetarian or vegan options - but the kitchen was willing to modify to accommodate special dietary requests. The food quality was average good and the mimosas were a bit flat - but overall we had a very nice experience and would certainly be back.
Took my young granddaughters for brunch on Sunday- 9 and 6. The 9 year old had the pancakes and said they were the best ever! There is not a children's menu and nothing good for the 6 year old on the menu but they were very accommodating by using "sides" to generate a sort of grilled cheese! And very attentive to the little girls- which they loved!
It’s my favorite neighborhood cafe, they have amazing authentic French food and great drinks. Service is friendly and prices are pretty low for Manhattan. Perfect spot for brunch!
As always, excellent in every category. My wife and I love it!
Thank you guys for the terrific and attractive outdoor set up, and for the lovely food and drink! You showed excellent ability to meet the demands of Covid-19 and to keep our neighborhood happy. It was a taste of Paris, albeit local.
Good local French food, fast in delivering food but service was a bit leisurely. Other times service has been great and generous.
Other than there being no warm, friendly welcome by either the host or the servers, the food was delicious.
In a time of difficulty fir restaurants in NYC due to covid, Cafe du Soleil is making the most of it. Safely spaced tables, lovely plants and flowers and nice classic french bistro food. Get there before the days grow cold.
Our go to French restaurant. We would never go anywhere else!
It is a very pretty restaurant and they have really gone all out with the outside decor. Also, our table was away from everyone and we felt very safe.
Great neighborhood place. Really good food. Attentive staff.
Cafe du Soleil has shown innovation in its approach to the constraints on dining out during the pandemic. Where previously they had a small number of outdoor tables, they have greatly expanded their seating, having negotiated with adjacent stores to expand up and down the block and out into the parking lane on the street. With spft jazz playing over their sound system, and lights strung up above the tables, plus umbrellas and awnings strategically placed, their total seating approaches what they used to have inside and they are offering almost everything on their traditional menu. On a nice summer's evening, the ambiance is excellent, as is the service. We have been there twice since their outdoor dining opened up, the second time for a special anniversary dinner. No other restaurant in this part of the UWS has shown the same marketing skills for bringing in diners for outside seating. The prices are a bit steep, but we felt we got our money's worth. Highly recommended.
I hadn't been there for about six months because the quality of the food had been steadily deteriorating. It has now reached bottom. The vichyssoise was as dead as if it had been frozen since last year; it actually had bits of ice floating in it. I asked for gazpacho instead and it was just as bad. The chicken in the cobb salad was too tough to eat. The service was unprofessional. I didn't recognize anyone there and assume the place must be under different management.
They sat me at a table, gave me a menu and a glass of water and ignored me for 20 minutes despite my polite attempts to flag down a waiter. Also they are using plastic coated menus and are not disinfecting them between uses. Mine had food all over the side. I finally gave up and went to Serafina 105 and had a delightful meal.
Consistent service, good french food and great drinks.
Great place: delicious food, great service, real French atmosphere. We keep on coming back.
It was a festive Friday night before the heat wave took hold. Service was swift and friendly. The rose wine was good, the lamb shank good not great, the ratatouille sensational, surprisingly so because very little tomato in it but the peppers and eggplant and squash first-rate. Only the couscous was a little dry. My chocolate mousse lived up to my very high expectations.
I made a reservation for 3, including an elderly lady, at 4:00p - a time I figured would be uncrowded. Only outside seating was available, of course, due to Covid-19. Everything was handled beautifully with respect to pandemic public safety protocol. The food was delicious. A 4th person who had been reluctant to commit to the outing came by to say hello and decided to stay and eat with us because he felt secure in the restaurant's careful arrangement of seats and their inviting decorative ambience. Hats off and thanks to all who made this experience a pleasure in the midst of such difficult times.
