Nestled in the heart of Budds Beach (only a 5 minute walk from the heart of Surfers Paradise) Bumbles Cafe is many things to many people. For residents of the Gold Coast, Bumbles is the café where they religiously visit each morning: grab the morning paper, nod to the barista signaling “the usual”, and plant themselves in their favorite seat amongst other regulars.

Bumbles has become an extension of their own homes and kitchens. For other locals, it is where they come every weekend to meet a group of friends and have a catch-up while they tuck into their breakfast of salmon benedict, side of hash browns & freshly squeezed juice. Others arrive by jetski on the beach and grab a take-away lunch to enjoy later.

The Benedict Conundrum

IN 1894, Lemuel Benedict, a wall street broker, who was suffering from a hangover, ordered some buttered toast, crisp bacon, two poached eggs and a hooker of hollandaise sauce at the Waldorf Hotel in New York. Over the past 30 years we have served it every way imaginable recently we served the 2 poached eggs on half a bagel with bacon avocado and hollandaise, our most popular version ever, however we did get some complaints on trip advisor that there was only half a bagel, so we took the advice and served both halves would you believe nobody ate the second half so we are back to half a bagel. If you want the other half tell us and we will give it to you here are our 4 favourite versions

My advice to any person with a diary intolerance is to skip the diary-free High Tea and order something else, or go somewhere else. Our Mother's Day experience was poor and the quantity and quality of the High Tea offering was disappointing. The High Tea selection was vegan and not diary-free and the variety of 'treats' was limited and uninspired. The vision of a relaxing afternoon was replaced with a hurried one-hour and a stop at a drive-through fast food outlet on the way home.

We sat outside (it is better inside) but we had a delicious breakfast and a good catch up. We had the omlette (yum), the ricotta pancakes were fresh and well presented and the poached eggs were perfectly cooked. We couldnt resist taking some baked goods home for later. A hidden treasure!

Everything good except chips on side of prawn sandwich were straight out of the fridge, icy cold! After alerting the staff they were quickly replaced with piping hot chips with an apology. All good.

I’ve been here before and it was very nice. But sadly this time it was terrible. The service was poor, when we ordered drinks only half or the order arrived. And when we did see a server we had to continually keep asking for things. We had a burger which was dry and tasteless. We also had the Thai chicken salad which was uninteresting and tasteless. The only saving grace was the orders of pawn sandwiches which were very nice. The table was very sticky to the point where my napkins stuck, even the drinking glasses stuck to it. And as far as having any part of your hands touching the table, it was very unpleasant. I don’t think it was dirty it was just an issue with the varnish which can happen but the table should now have placemats or a tablecloth. Something I would think the owner would surely be aware of and could sort out very quickly, it made the whole dining experience quite revolting

Enjoyed our experience as atmosphere was interesting and fun with the inside decor. Dessert was amazing. Waitress was polite and food came in good time. Was a little disappointed in our lunch meals for the price. But enjoyed the meal. Will go again.

We were concerned with the waitress who welcomed us- she had no welcome vibe about her- no smile - straight faced- until we saw her having a great laugh with some local aussies- led me to think did our colour matter? Yet the Samoan waitress was excellent- made up for the bitter taste left in our beings! Unfortunately will not recommend to any friends although u have a great set up The vegetarian options r very limited and not worth the dollars charged! (1 item)

Bumbles never lets you down. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented, but make sure you leave room for cake and coffee. The only problem is which cake to choose as they are all outstanding.

We had the High Tea which was just lovely. The young lady looking after us was also lovely and we enjoyed our lunch very much. The only problem we had was the amazing amount of flies that annoyed us whilst the food was there, but you can't do anything about nature. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I love the location of this Cafe and have visited several times for breakfast. We had lunch this time and it was disappointing. It took a very long time for the food to arrive...around 45 minutes. It would have been great for the staff to acknowledge the wait and apologise. I ordered the prawn sandwich which was soggy, unseasoned and the white bread was squashed flat. Disappointed on this occasion.

Whilst it was quite loud, once we opened a door up, it allowed for the flow of air and noise. Some wait staff were a little bit overwhelmed but one wonderful woman went above and beyond several times. The food and drinks were wonderful and we’ll be back!

The predominant issue (which I am not sure can be rectified) was the Road Loading Zone at front of cafe. Suppliers use it to drop off goods and/or conduct business. In this case, a business which assists the Bumbles chef, cook and staff, with their basic culinary requirements used the Loading Zone for approx 45 minutes. A combination of a hot, humid and muggy environment coupled with the vehicle engine remaining on all the time made it a little noisy and due to the size of the vehicle culminated in any potential breeze being blocked from the canal. Just made the stay at Bumbles uncomfortable during that period. Just writing this simple treatise to make you aware of this issue. Whether it is needs any resolution (or just be made aware of its implications), I leave to you!!

I booked online, very simple, followed up with a phone call as dietary requirements and physical and cognitive disability of one of the guests that In the past caused issues especially with social distancing and mobility. Staff on arrival recognised immediately and had us seated promptly . Courteous, friendly and professional, exceeded expectations! The ambience was lovely on the back deck. Food and coffee met expectations and a good price point. Will definitely be back

The setting of bumbles is beautiful, the service we received was wonderful, and the food was lovely. Outside is dog friendly which was handy. However, the menu is quite limited, the coffee wasn't very good and serving sizes are very small. Would still visit again.
