Food was average. I had steak that was tough. I asked for medium rare and struggled to see any pink. Had to order at the bar as they had a trivia night on in a room at the back. Very noisy with loud music even before that function started. Menu choices didn't inspire. Staff were very pleasant. Standards have slipped. Not up to my last experience a few years ago. Disappointing.
Booking the Restaurant Express lunch was a lovely way to make the acquaintance of this fine venue. Relaxed but charming, excellent service and delicious food made a great impression on us. We'll be back!
Great place .Food was excellent.Highly recommend the chicken parmigiana or the seafood hot pot .Great friendly service
Good pub style meals with friendly staff and comprehensive wine list. But we didn’t get any bread!
The fish pie was utterly disappointing and overpriced.
The other dishes were nice.
there is a great variety in menu options and the table service was fast - excellent experience
Cannot fault the food and the wine list was great. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Only drawback was the closeness of the tables along the window side - extremely close and the group next to us took the opportunity to interrupt our conversation repeatedly, telling us how wonderful their child was and to look at his drawings!! Not the fault of the establishment but maybe if the tables were a little more spaced it would have made this not so easy to do. A minor blemish in an otherwise great night.
The service, food and drinks were great. The noise however made communication a real challenge. We left with our ears ringing and exhausted from our efforts to communicate. Not recommended for anyone planning a serious or intimate conversation!
We were very disappointed with bistro, having gone there on Boxing Day evening on a friend's recommendation. Apart from the noise level, we found the food to be uninspiring and over-priced. In particular, the mulloway dish main course was over-cooked and over-priced given the miniscule volume for a main dish.
it was monday lunch so not many patrons BUT they placed another couple right next to us with minimal space between tables such that the waiters backside was in our face whenever she was serving them, and there were dozens of empty tables they could have been seated at.!! So being a bit quieter there was no background buzz to mask our separate conversations. Seems the staff on the floor had no discretion in seating us. Very upsetting.
Good gastro pub and food is excellent but serves are small and prices are on the high side.
That's why it is so busy on Monday and Tuesday specials nights
Confused and understaffed service. Entrees can our 5 minutes apart. First bottle of wine not available (after a 20 minute wait), next bottle of red was fizzing in the glass and the third was corked. By which time we’d finished our meals without a drink and nothing offered in way of apology or compensation.
Insanely loud in the dining room on a Friday night
Unfortunately we had a negative experience. 2 weeks before Xmas - had to wait 45 minutes for our table - the hotel was completely understaffed, the food was poor, salads forgotten. Drinks were slow with repeated requests t staff for items missing from the table and service. Totally appreciate it was Xmas but our reservation was in the system - which seemed impossible to locate by the several staff who were getting pulled from pillar to post.
My daughter and I were treated royally. The steak we shared was delicious and we were totally spoiled by the desserts. Looking forward to going back.
Too noisy, to make your audible at your table was an effort. Service was prompt, friendly. Food great!, Beer menu great! Single glass red selections great! The smells of the kitchen were very strong from when I arrieved 7:20pm right through to the end 10:45pm and spoilt it for me.
We had been recommended and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will go to more of this person's recommendations!
Space was too noisy to hear conversations. Wait staff changing continually. Waits about 15 mins before getting a drink. Steak was. Dry ordinary art. They didn’t serve our vegetables we ordered. Overall, should have gone somewhere else.
Great food, great staff, great pub - what more do I need to say!!
Definitely not what it used to be. Service was slow and unhelpful despite it not being busy. My partner and I separately asked 3 staff before we were seated. Food was mediocre (previously it's been of much higher quality) - the sausages were pretty good, although the 'new potatoes' could've just been from a can. Tap selection was poor and we resorted to drinking cans, not great for a pub.
The food, drinks and service were all fabulous as you would expect from a McConnell venue. The only improvement I would suggest is the noise level, we could not hear ourselves, despite being seated int he restaurant with carpet. Maybe it was the large groups.
Without doubt one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the last 2 years. Clean unsullied flavours, precise cooking and excellent presentation that has not been overworked. Service was both friendly and knowledgeable. An excellent experience that was great value for money.
Our starters came out after the mains.
We didn't get offered more than 1 drink.
We didn't have any water on our table until after dessert.
Desserts came out without all accompaniments - i.e. no cream for some of us.
It was really busy in the bar, and quiet in the bistro, but we were put literally as close to the bar which was intolerably loud given it was Grand Final Friday. Bit odd.
The food was very good with every one at the table (six of us) happy with their meal. The service was very friendly and the venue had a great vibe. We will return in the future.
Average pub food at premium prices. Not close to the quality it used to offer as Ricky and Pinky or Moon Under Water.
We dined at in the Bistro the week before and had a better experience than this visit. The bistro setup is fine however there was a problem with the menu. The menu appeared to be if not the same, very similar to the previous week's visit. We attempted to order our first two beers on the menu only to be told there wasn't any in stock - one of these was the Hawker Pale Ale. This was a disappointing start. I ordered the porterhouse and it was cooked (medium rare) to my liking BUT it was tough. Not what I expected. Honestly, I'd think twice about dining in the Bistro again. The prices are not cheap - I'd suggest diners would have higher expectations. In a word - disappointing.
Fantastic food and really great service. Highly recommend this place.
Good variety of beers (tried the Hawker Pale Ale for the first time), good choices on the menu and appropriate sized servings. Just a 10 walk from the MCG so great for something to eat before night final games.
Went with my family for fathers day. It was advertised as a special fathers day roast dinner, with a free beer for the dad, however that was never forthcoming. The roast itself was tasty, but ridiculously small portion size. A bit of meat and some steamed carrots does not maketh a roast. If you are going to pay $40 a pop for a roast, you'd expect it to fill you up. Otherwise, the pub itself is beautiful, nice ambience, relatively helpful staff.
Delicious food, great service, with a relaxed atmosphere on a busy and bustling father's day!
Great food as always and spectacular service. The fish pie never fails to disappoint.
I wish my chef friend didn't recommend we leave our original venue to come here for dinner. I think it's because they're part of some sort of hospo group with a good name - i wasn't impressed. Poor ambience and unfortunately, the service from one particular male waiter wasn't up to scratch. Didn't seem interested in being at work and it transpired into his lack of enthusiasm. Wish we stayed at the pub up the road where the ambience was chilled and friendly. I won't make this mistake again. Best to save your hard earned dollars for something else!
Great food and service but way to loud very hard to have a conversation
Excellent food, do try the wood fired cauliflower. Probably not the greatest restaurant for a date night as quite noisy. Staff were great and dishes came out steadily.
Great meal, restaurant a bit noisy but food was great and good value, would go again soon.
Loved this place , decor is cool staff very friendly and efficient and above all the food was different and very tasty!
Love Ricky and pinky but on Friday night we had the cauliflower dish - frankly that should not be served anywhere, terrible dish.
As we are regulars, maybe we should have been asked why we only ate a little and was there a problem?? We only ordered two dishes so it would seem odd that we did not eat it.
We were going to order dinner - but as we were really put off by the cauliflower dish and no one asked us why we did not eat it - we left.
Wonderful night, excellent service and delicious food thank you!!
Great food we all really enjoyed our meal. limited menu - and was very noisy
Went there with friends on a Saturday night.
The food was good, portion size a bit small but it all tasted great.
The main issue there is the poor acoustics - it was hard to have a conversation without screaming (and we were on one of the smallest round table).
Wouldn’t go back for that reason and because of a price not justified.
