Browns - London Mayfair
I love this branch of Browns. It's maintained so many original building features and it feels tucked away. A friend and I had a quiet Saturday morning breakfast here before going to a nearby art gallery. Lovely friendly service and a nice breakfast/brunch menu.
Note to opentable: I booked through opentable and the booking had not made it through to the restaurant - they were preparing for a private party and obviously not expecting us. All credit to the staff for quickly changing plans and accommodating us in an excellent way, despite a confused and embarrassing start to the evening.
Took Mum for her birthday - attentive service food good Sour dough loaf amazing - calm comfortable and chic
There for a corporate breakfast first thing so wasnt bothered about any atmosphere. However i had avocado on toast with extra bacon. The avocado was so minimal it almost didnt cover the bread. It came with 1 slice of bacon which was tough. I had to stand up to get attention to order another tea and do the same again to get the bill even though there was only one other table with people in the whole place. So many better places for breakfast.
We went for breakfast and loved the place so we went back for dinner. Great food, great service (especially Natalie), friendly staff, and a great value.
A great place for business meeting and food. Highly recommended to all. We will definitely come again.
Excellent food & value for money. Beautiful place for casual or a slight special event. Very poor service. Waitress is not attentive even though it’s not busy.
Love the place. Felt unusually quiet on that Friday night, but the service was top, and the food and drinks lovely.
Afternoon Tea really good!!
Fantastic for Mayfair to be able to have a really good and reasonably priced lunch in good surroundings and draft beers, a bar and not a bad and reasonably priced wine list. Our server from Romania absolutely charming too. We had a great time.
There is a wine on the menu that is absolutely terrible--a bitter, acidic Cabernet S. The waitress did not let us taste the wine before hand, instead pouring two overly glasses and then plonked them down in front of us and walked away. When we let her know that it really wasn't to our taste and we'd have a beer instead, it was a huge production, grilling us on our knowledge of wine, bringing the glasses to the barman to taste, returning with the barman's report that it wasn't the wine that was bad but our own palates, sniffing and swirling the wine and noting to us that it looks delicious to her.
It was absurd and funny, but a bit much and since it happened at the beginning of the meal, the event sort of ruined the experience.
We were in a bit of a rush but the cocktails we ordered and the food came out so quickly. Our waitress was really sweet and friendly. The food was amazing and well-presented and good value. It is a really comfortable ambiance, with a busy drinks area when you walk in and a slightly separate restaurant - but overall such a good buzz.
Second time here as we loved it so much. Everything is fantastic...from the food to the service to the interior. Definitely be back!
Good and simple menu, food was excellent, a nice airy and light space and for heart of Mayfair a good and decent value lunch which was enjoyable. The service was all over the place though. Not sure if too few waiting staff for the covers of if they were just useless. They were friendly just hopeless.
excellent place and food. the bad service. There was a table of 8 people plus we who were 4 and we were served super slow ... so slow was that we canceled the dessert after waiting 15 minutes.
All the rest was incredible
Service was very very slow...... We have waited half an hour for the food.
The week before Christmas so the restaurant was extremely busy. Staff worked hard but long wait between starters and mains meant we had no time for desert.
Food ok but I think the sheer volume of orders had an impact on the usually high quality.
Poor show from Opentable, no record of booking on arrival after receiving confirmation email and text 24 hrs before
Luckily front of house Lenka was able to sort us a table of 8 at Christmas
Staff were great
I will never use Opentable again and will tell all my friends and work colleagues about my negative experience
I called Browns an hour before booking time to be told my opentable booking did not exist. This was not a good experience. The restaurant told me that Opentable should never have offered bookings.
I was very disappointed by my open table experience. He restaurant squeezed me and my family in and we had a lovely dinner. Once my stress levels had receded!
We booked Browns for a client event. 9 event organisers plus 2 hosts so obviously they expected high standards. The table wasn’t ready when we arrived and we had to swop tables because the one we were given was too big. Very slow service one client was waiting 20 mins for her first drink. The waitress was overwhelmed and quite snappy. The special menu I ordered 2 weeks prior was not prepared so the poor client had to order with everyone watching. Had preordered berries and sorbet but this also was not prepared so client only got fruit. The client with dietary requirements had to wait 5 minutes extra for each course while everyone else had their food on the table. Welcome drinks only poured half a glass to I had to top them up myself, drinks order taken incorrectly. The food itself was very good lovely turkey great Christmas pudding. We all had a lovely lunch but that was due to the lovely clients not the service what a shame!!!
Love Browns! This is a beautiful setting. Sadly the food was cold and the service worse
2 stars overall is for the good service we received from our waiter in addressing issues and for a good meal. It's a pity that an issue with the bill spoilt our evening (we had to send it back 4 times!). On the advice of our waiter I wrote to the sales manager about what happened but so far I have not had a response. The issue with the bill and lack of customer care has put us off returning to Browns, Mayfair - therefore, we have cancelled a second booking for our office Christmas meal later this month.
Service was very slow, but we was in no hurry so not important to us that day, we couldn’t help notice that others who arrived at the restaurant after us got served before us and had paid and left the restaurant. Food was good and good value. Nice looking place. Polite server.
Wonderful Venue with Fantastic food will definitely be paying another visit!
Service was incredibly slow - over 2 hours for one course & coffee
Tables are too close together - waiter couldn't get past the back of my chair so had to move
A bit disappointed as feel it should be better than this.
This was a last minute booking. Been to Browns quite a few times. Good menu and a separate gluten free menu which was great. Food was plentiful and tasty. It’s not haute cuisine but it’s very good value for money - especially in Mayfair. Excellent service too. Thank you.
Went for a pre theatre dinner Saturday 27 Oct. booked it because it seemed reasonably priced yet still a little bit fancy.
Was not disappointed at all and in fact it exceeded expectations. Had the chateaubriand to share it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Would definitely recommend.
Would recommend, service very good, food lovely, just right for a get together.
We both had the Guinness steak and mushroom pie. When it arrived I poured it from it's bowl onto my plate. It turned out to be largely carrots in gravy with two thin pieces of meat and minimal mushroom. I have had this meal before in their City branch and it used to be very good. I suspect they are protecting their profit margins with cheap ingredients. We sent the pies back for a replacement which were marginally better but not great. The waiter was embarrassed but the chef was entirely at fault. We were offered a free pudding but that was not really the point. I do like Browns but please could you get this message to them as if I go again I expect a much better meal.
I love Brown's!
I work around the corner and took the family there for Dad's birthday - they were very patient (we were quite late!) and gave us a small room where we could celebrate.
My favourite and second favourite wines were out of stock (their wine delivery was delayed) - this wasn't a problem at all for us, but they quickly offered replacements that were very similar to what we asked for and definitely good quality wine.
All food was fantastic - I'm so glad they kept the fish pie on the menu as it is now the only thing I have when there!! The duck liver parfait was also wonderful.
Service was incredible as always and they even put a candle on my dad's dessert!!
Can't wait to go back :)
The menu is straight forward and uncomplicated. The service was excellent, efficient clear and friendly. The food was good, although given that it is asparagus season, that dish was a disappointment: stringy green ones grilled, which a poached egg. Fish pie and Guinness and Steak pies were very good. It’s a good place to meet up, and get a good meal.
Whilst the staff are always friendly the restaurant could do with more of them, at busy times you do have to wait which at lunch is a little frustrating!
Always go back though.
First time at Browns and found it excellent - will certainly return.
Amazing place. Nice staff
This restaurant needs a major update. It feels very tired and the food is very average (at best). It lacked the atmosphere we were wanting on a Saturday night and the staff couldn’t wait for us to leave at closing time!
I wouldn’t return.
This was just what we were looking for - I have a fussy husband, and he found something to eat, and there was plenty of choice for me too!
Lovely food and great surroundings.
Staff attentive without being over fussy.
Relaxing dining experience in the centre of London
I took for wife, sister and son to Browns who all enjoyed it very much, particularly as my 22 year old son is a bit of a foody. The service was excellent and the cost very good value with friendly staff. I shall be going again soon.
We went to Brown's for New Year's Eve and we couldn't have been more impressed. The menu was exquisite (5 courses - I wasn't even overly hungry but the portion sizes were perfect) and the Prosecco on arrival was a lovely touch. The staff were beyond lovely and courteous, very warm and friendly. We had been to many restaurants on this trip (and previous trips) to London and this topped them all.
