Fantastic experience for my wife's birthday. Food was on par with restaurants costing three times as much. Not cheap by any stretch, but amazing food, server Christina was very knowledgable and friendly, would definitely return!
We had a mixture of a lamb sirloin steak which was extremely fatty, a 5oz beef tenderloin which was cooked very well, the sides of rapini which was over cooked. Broccoli and cauliflower cheese dish which was just alright and version Fioe Gras which again was ok. The restaurant is full of glits and glamour, but the food doesn't match..it's a 7/10 ..Lots of other establishments in the city offer a better meal out
There were 6 of us & all of our meals were great except one..a steak which was disappointing. AT one point in the evening the room got very smokey forth kitchen which we did not like so you should watch that! put servers were great
Beautiful restaurant with good ambience...except for the row of tables looking into the back of the restaurant. Our view was of people washing dishes and a mop bucket. Good otherwise though.
Pleased with overall feel and presentation. Didn’t feel that the artwork reflected the architecture of the space- too rustic for the upscale design. Food quality and selection was fantastic. Server was excellent but had too many tables to be attentive. Ie, water not refilled, plates not bussed.
We had a very nice evening and we were celebrating a family birthday. We had the steak and short rib which was great.
The staff were not very personable, maybe to new and not comfortable in their roles yet. The lounge staff were great.
The food and overall experience was great.
The menu was pretty pricey, the food was great though and so was the service
Waiting staff was nice but they forgot us after seating us. After about 15-20 minutes we tracked someone down. They gave us champagne as an apology which was nice. Food was good but definitively not fine dining quality. You go for the ambiance not the food, keep your money for a restaurant that puts more emphasis on food quality over the looks and ambiance of the experience..
Fantastic food. Service will improve. Decor looks great. Would go back.
Great Customer Service
Food is amazing!! Service was poor for what you are paying for.
Outstanding in every respect. Mathew our server was the best. My only minor complaint (not enough to drop my rating) was that the tables for 2 are a bit close to each other. Restaurant design I guess. We were in a "middle" table for two and could have been put next to the pillar in a table for two. That was never occupied the entire time we were there.
Great first experience! Good service and knowledgeable as well! Would recommend!!
Nice atmosphere, the food is good and tasty, friendly staff. Just be prepared that it is on the expensive side of dining.
I don’t know how this restaurant plans to survive serving day old stuff, chicken that tastes that it was cooked, frozen and reheated or a Caesar salad that is so overwhelmingly dressed that people are warning about it before you even sit down. We went as a group of five and ordered two lunch specials, two of the chicken wraps and one of the Caesar salads.
My meal was mediocre at best. My colleagues first comment was that Press’d was better than the wrap she had in her hand. The guy eating the Caesar? Two bites and that was lunch.
Edmonton’s downtown is starved for new restaurants. People who work downtown eat at the same place so many times that it gets boring fast. New restaurants are popping up almost daily but if they expect to compete against the likes of Sabor, Atlas, or even Joeys, they have to bring their A game and Braven felt like they were playing their second string during a non competitive intramural.
At 12:15 any day of the week Joeys, which is across the street, is packed, with a wait. Braven, was empty. We may have had four other tables in the restaurant at the same time. It should have been packed. We should have needed our reservation.
For a $32 soup and sandwich combo that I could’ve gotten anywhere else for $15 to not blow my socks off, is bad news. I had heard that Braven was underwhelming at best, I tried it for myself, and I agree.
Great restaurant - service is impeccable and the food was great. Only complaint is how pricey it is - but a great night out to celebrate a special occasion
The music was the perfect volume as I like what was playing and we could still carry on a conversation. I would go back as long as parking is free and the service stays the same
Disappointed that they didn't accept my Oiler discount because it was 3 days late but when I made the reservation I moved it and Braven knew it was a OEG reservation
Incredible selection of food, outstanding service and great ambiance.
Tuna Tartar and Yellow Fin dishes were salty. No change when they were redone. Sirloin Strip Steak - requested medium rare but came to table cooked medium, under seasoned, and tough to cut. Grilled shrimps were overcooked also. Braised short ribs and Lobster shrimp mac & cheese were delicious. Cappuccino had a burnt after taste. Added sugar and milk unfortunately couldn't solve the situation. Service was ok but given it was at the JW Marriott, we had expected more refined demeanor and timely service. Two of our table guests said they would give the restaurant another try as they attributed some of the disappointments to new staffing and it being a new restaurant.
relatively overpriced for what you are getting. drinks drastically overpriced.
Food was delicious but a bit pricey especially the drinks . Was very busy so service was a bit slow. Waitress was super friendly though and the smoked drinks looked very intriguing. Was also a bit noisy
Very nice restaurant and overall experience. I did find the restaurant very noisy. Our server was terrific to begin with but then a group of 3 were sat next to us that he seemed to know and his focus definitely changed. I was given the wrong size of wine and we waited over 10 minutes with our dessert menus before asking a manager for service. The food was delicious.
We really enjoyed the restaurant and the food was incredible. It was a bit loud and so hard to talk at the table, but that's probably part of the character they're going for based on all the hard surfaces. Overall, we loved it, and will be back!
Food was excellent. The crab cake was delicious. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Cheesecake dessert was the best my husband has ever had. Sticky toffee cake was fantastic. Couldn’t decide which dessert was better. Our server was awesome along with the overall service. Will definitely be coming back and will recommend to others. Hats off to the chefs and all who work there!
We really enjoyed our first Braven experience. Ambiance was great, but noisy, so be prepared to speak up! Our food was good, we were disappointed with the NY striploin, especially since it's considered a "steak place". The filet Minion was delicious. An ordering mistake occurred with our appy so they brought two, which was very nice. We are looking forward to attending again. Service was great!
i loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Good level of conversations going around. Server lacked basic skills in regards to serving.
Delicious food and cocktails. Amazing service. Cool decor and ambiance. Good value, decent sized portions. Will return!
amazing vibe with very attentive staff.. highly recommend
I would like to begin this review by saying my wife and I have reservation at this place. We were actually really excited to come to this place as it was hyped and it’s the “new restaurant on the block” so to speak. We arrived at the restaurant on time and we were greeted by a hostess (I believe she is Filipino). From my view from the hostess area, there were many tables that were empty. Our hostess then directed us to a 4 top table with a couple having dinner. The table was split in half and was separated by a mere 3 inches (you can’t even run a glass in between the table split). She then points towards the next 2 chairs to the couple and said “here you go”. My wife and I were taken back as there were many tables open and she decided to sit us right next to a couple (when I say right beside them, like my shoulders would have been about a foot from the couple beside me). We politely asked if there’s a different table she can sit us, she did however stated “we just have a big group coming”. Uhm.. all 28 free tables??... don’t overbook your restaurant. The couple that she was going to sit us with looked at us and gave us the “ I can’t believe that just happened gesture”. Waited 15 minutes for our server to come, then another 20 mins for our drinks. At that point we just had enough and left. Let me be clear that our server was nice. We went to SABOR restaurant which is always amazing. Later we found out that cam Talbots wife also shared her dismay for her experience in Braven.
Service and facilities were very nice. Staff was great all round. The food wasn't the most memorable. Felt the chef was trying to hard to be "bold" and flavours didn't meld together well.
the restaurant noise level was bit loud, ok for a larger table group, for a table of two, I would ask for a quieter section
Beautiful restaurant with fantastic service however we were a bit disappointed with the food. We weren't huge fans of the fried squid as we felt it tasted bland even with the dipping sauce and the batter was unappealing. The tenderloin was cooked nicely although we were not offered fresh pepper with it (although the server came by shortly after to ask us how everything was), and the à la carte sides we ordered were fine although a bit small for the price in our opinion. Music is definitely on the louder side however we were very close to the lounge area. Most patrons were dressed well however like others have mentioned, there were a few tables that didn't follow dress code. I don't think we would return as at this price point we believe there are other restaurants that provide greater value.
Decent experience, steak was over cooked twice but they made it right by comping the steak. Black cod was delicious.
Beautiful restaurant, wonderful service. Only complaint is the noise level in the restaurant is very loud. Not a very good place to go for an intimate dinner date. Tables are very close together so not much privacy for conversation purposes. Food was very good. The price is expensive but the quality is worth it.
Price was higher for the value. The food was good not excellent.
It's not too often I find that I truly get amazing service but this was definitely it. The food was outstanding. The service was attentive, courteous, interactive (based on the customer of course), and knowledgeable. We tried a variety of food and beverages and everything was top notch. I've already recommended it to a couple friends.
We thought the round marble table was a bit small. However the food , service was excellent. Jelly was our server and she was great!
Took my wife out for dinner to try out a new place. We were sat near the front entrance which gave us a view of the bar area and the large TVs in the lounge which made it noisier for us. Needed to use the flashlight on our phones to read the menu, a little dark in the restaurant and the print on the menu was quite small, so bring your reading glasses. The service was good even though timing was a little off, which had nothing to do with our server. The soup was good. A mushroom purée type of soup, tasted good but better with the dollop of cream in the middle. The dinner on the other hand was another experience. My wife ordered the flat iron steak with a request for slight pink in the middle, it arrived luke warm with a lot of red in the middle, we sent it back with the Rapini which was also cold. The steak came back hotter but still not cooked in the middle as well as we would have liked. The wild mushrooms were hot and tasty and the broccoli cauliflower with cheese combo was hot but the cheese was more watery than sauce.
The sticky toffee pudding with a dollop of some type of ice cream or sorbet was an interesting taste in the mouth of which I do not think compliment each other. I enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding but without the sorbet. My wife enjoyed the sorbet.
Finished everything off with a very good tasting coffee.
Kyle (I think that was his name) the manager came over at the end of our dinner and asked how things were (of which I told him the same thing as I have posted here). He apologized for the issues, took care of my wife’s flat iron steak and expressed how they are trying to address the issues.
Being a new establishment I would presume that our issues will be resolved going forward for them. They are in training and learning and can only get better going forward. 3 out of 5 for us. We will have to revisit a few months down the road to see what improvements may have been made.
Steak doesn't even need a knife!
From the Crab, shrimp, haddock cakes to the filet mignon and compliments; the entire experience was amazing.
The creamiest mashed potatoes, creamed peppercorn bourbon sauce and succulent wild mushrooms are out of this world.
And the whole package is complete with the professional staff. We are a little biased but can't recommend Christina enough for a server. She was informative and attentive.
Be warned that the Black forest sundae is a must share dessert. Its gigantic.
But very delicious.
The chefs in this restaurant know what they are doing to the fullest ability.
Since it was a Friday afternoon it wasn't that busy at the time. Also their music was apparently out of order today so I can't really say it will be quiet when it is on or not.
The beef tartare was good but it was missing some seasoning. Missing some cracked black pepper maybe.
Skinny fries were tasty with the dipping sauce.
I really liked the cream of mushroom soup.
Didn't get the chance to have any desserts as I was too full to have any.
