BORN by Tapavino Ratings and Reviews
Great selection of food and wine. The wine menu is a bit pricey for those not who don't appreciate good wine. Service was excellent with great recommendations. The venue is quite cold for winter months. More heaters or lap blankets would help.
Really enjoyed our meal and drinks. Everything was very tasty and the meals were a good size for tapas and sharing. The wine lust is extensive and we thoroughly enjoyed our Spanish beer and wines. The duck liver pate was delicious and the jamon to die for. A most enjoyable experience - we will definitely be going back!
GOOD FOOD IN A GREAT LOCATION AT AN EXPENSIVE PRICE
The food and service are great and the location is excellent. But if you are looking for value for money this is not the place for you. The serve sizes are VERY small compared to the PRICE. I would not call this fine dining - It is well done Tapas.
The menu is extensive and so we were guided by the excellent staff through the menu and wine list. We shared a few tapas, small plates and larger offering and we couldn't fault the quality or presentation. The anchovies, manchego churros, blue eye cod and beef cheeks were a standout. The wine is on the pricey side but we put that aside and enjoyed a delicious Spanish red. Would recommend.
We had a good evening at Born by Tapavino. The food was very good and the restaurant has a great vibe about it. The location is also excellent. We enjoyed especially the baked trout and the chicken in cider. My only disappointment was that we were celebrating a special occasion, and did not have comfortable seating. We were 3 people and when we asked if we could be seated at one of the empty tables, we were told it was reserved for 4, but only 3 people were seated there later on in the evening.
Lovely find for Spanish food as Movida had closed down in Sydney. Love the food & the ambience. However, please tie those steel pulley for the blinds to the column. Few of us "hugged" the pulley while walking around the table. It is a hazard. Will be back again.
- Great location, beautiful presentation,
- excellent service by most staff but..
- you're basically paying for the location
- portion sizes are extremely small, even by tapas standards, particularly when you consider the prices. $12 for a single-bite sized Balmain bug slider as entree is an example
- there is no excuse for a credit card surcharge even for Visa cards in this class of restaurant, particularly at the prices they're charging. It's not the done thing -just plain offensive.
- Sure it's exquisite contemporary Spanish food, but Australia has incredible wines too, so it seems ridiculous having to pick from a list of foreign wine labels most people are entirely unfamiliar with. Be great to see at least some familiar powerhouse locals to choose from
We absolutely loved the food! Well done. After CQ Tapavino being one of our favourites, we were all so excited to try your new venue. Unfortunately, Nina ruined our experience. She forgot parts of our order and then blamed it on us and gave us such attitude it was really disheartening.I really really would love to say I could recommend born by tapavino because everything else was absolutely perfect.
The overall service was ok and the staff were attentive. The staff did an amazing job with recommending the specials but it just increased our expectation. When the food came, we were caught by surprised with just 5 slices of lamb that cost us $35 (and we were told that it is more than enough to be shared between 4 of us).
Recently dined at Born as part of a double-date night with friends. The service was attentive, (keeping an eye on our water levels, for example). The food was amazeballs(!) - full of flavour and beautifully cooked. Don't pass up on the beef cheeks nor the calamari.
I came with my sister and her friend visiting from the UK. Challenged by their dietaries we still manged to have a great shared meal which was original, well presented, tasty and fulfilling . Wine list and service, very good. Will be back.
A truly wonderful experience. The variety of tapas was awe inspiring. We waded through the menu over a couple of hours with an attentive but unobtrusive server. The variety of Spanish wines avail;able was great. We enjoyed a light and fruity Mencia and a Bobal blend which were very drinkable. All in all a place I'd go back to in a heart beat.
The location is great, and some of the food we had was spectacular (the jamon in particular was delicious), but some of the other dishes were simply mediocre (the flavors on the oysters were odd, and wasn't a huge fan of the beef cheek dish). The wine menu, though large and chosen well to go with the spanish tapas, is extremely difficult to navigate. I'd probably check out another restaurant in Barangaroo before I went back and gave it another shot.
The staff were attentive and helped with all our questions.
We had a selection of tapas as well as a couple of mains between 3. The food was extremely fresh and tasted great
WIne list was great - again the staff were great here in pointing us in the right direction. Had a great afternoon and we will be back
Great place for friends to chat, wine and dine. Diverse range of wines and good advice available from waiter/s when selecting a wine. Food is tapas style, with diverse choices, good size portions, great flavours. The waiter again provided knowledgeable advice about the menu.
A group of 4, we dinned on a hot summer evening. Our seats were outside, and the roof above did not protect us from the evening sun, although clouds soon did the job. Inside was fully open - so no space was truely air conditioned. Everything was covered in a fairly noticeable film of grit and dust due to the wind and building works nearby - plates had obviously been left out for some time during the day. Waiters were not very welcoming and our table was awkward to get to due to a pole and the fences around the dining space. Orders were taken be waitress on a scruffy self made note pad. Not the best start.
Food however was quite good. Clever and authentic Spanish inspired food. Portions were generous - we ordered too much. Pacing was a little erratic and the further from the bar, the less service you received. Paying the bill was challenging as the waitress could not do the maths nor add a tip.
For a team that has a good reputation - they have a lot of work to make this a destination dinning experience.
