Seated right away and checked in on at appropriate times. Perfect place for dinner while doing business.
we went for my boyfriends birthday dinner. i had been before but he hadnet. it’s got a great aesthetic and the food is fab. only weird thing is they charged us for a dessert they brought out that said “happy birthday.” it was very kind of them to go out of their way to do that but it’s a bit odd to charge for something we didn’t order. nonetheless, it was a great night!
Ceviche was excellent, good bao, fried avocado was bland but really good with spicy sauce. Outside dining was nice, service was good. Relaxing evening.
Food and service were excellent! Our waiter was very nice. :) It was a lovely evening so we sat outside. VERY quaint 'lil patio they have. We ordered, mainly off the appetizer (small bites) menu.
First were the "taro chips." I LOVE these crunchy sticks of deliciousness! The dipping sauces (garlic aoili & umami ketchup were awesome as well. Next up was the "hot chicks," which was basically popcorn chicken with some sort of yummy sauce drizzled atop (maybe hoisin sauce?). Next came the "emerald gyoza," which was beyond delicious....and, again with the dipping sauce (soy/sweet/sour)....YUM! We also enjoyed the tempura avocado, fried perfectly. Lastly, we split the "fish tacos," which was an entire (deep fried) red snapper paired with a spicy papaya slaw and small corn tortillas. We watched an online video of this dish being prepared (on weird eats or something or other) and we were sold! However, the fish was not nearly as easy to pull apart as it appeared to be in the video. And, presenting it with a knife and fork, instead of a large spoon, caused all of us to grab fish bones along the way. So, picking out fish bones (or being afraid of having a hidden one) made this dish a bit less enjoyable.
My pals had the house red wine and both loved it. I had the coconut margarita. It lacked in coconut flavor but was still pretty darn good.
All in all, I very much enjoyed Bites. My only recommendations would be to serve the whole red snapper with a spoon so as to drag the meat away from the bones; add a bit of a spice kick (even just salt) to the batters (snapper, chicken, and tempura); and please stop cutting your straws in half for cocktails....they are too darn short. :)
Rats on the patio. Food was underwhelming.
I love the lava sushi! It is something I crave often. Bites has changed up their theme a couple times but it's incredibly cute. It feels like you're on a tropical island. The sushi is great, expensive but it's expected from most sushi places.
Great happy hour deals. Food was good.
The service was great and drinks, great! It’s a cute little spot with so much charm. So much potential. Only downside, the food. We ordered so many different dishes hoping the next one would be better but somehow they just kept getting worse. The Thai Asian noodles tasted like spaghetti noodles with peanut butter sauce. The hamachi was thick and did not look or taste fresh. Usually it’s very thin and you can see the freshness, not here. Tried the sushi, that was actually not too bad. Not the greatest but possibly the best part of our meal. The buns are good.. again, not great but not horrible. They were decent buns. But then again how do you ruin fried shrimp. We also got the pineapple shrimp, that also was not any better. It looked like shrimp thrown in with chunks of pineapples and bell peppers. There was no special taste to this. I will say the worst part we’re the noodles, so bad that I actually had to tell the sever that we could not eat them. She was so sweet and took them off our check (we only took two small bites). I have no problem spending close to/ spending $100 for a meal, but when the whole thing is not good, not happy about it. This place has so much potential, just might need a new chef?? The staff is so attentive and sweet, they make this place!
Very saddened to say my experience was dissatisfying. I met a friend for dinner, on my recommendation. I had been a couple of years prior when it was fairly new. We sat and waited to give our drink orders for close to 15min which in the grand scheme of things wasn’t bad. By the time we ordered drinks we also ordered an appetizer to share and entrees. We were told the bartender was a little behind so we expected to wait for drinks. The drinks came out fairly quick. However, we waited roughly another 45 min for a tuna tar tar appetizer. Then at least another 20 for our main entrees. When my friends sushi came they comped her sushi, which was a great gesture except for the fact that we had asked for separate bills. So when the bill came I had double the bill as hers with getting almost exactly the same meal. This was also in part to the fact that the full price of the appetizer was placed on my bill instead of split since we had shared it. If she couldn’t split this, I understand however I felt we should still have been notified of that being an issue. When I asked to see a manager I was told she would just comp my meal as well. This was all a nice gesture and I don’t blame the waitress but the overall experience left us both frustrated and disappointed.
This being said the food was very good once it arrived. So no negative feelings towards that in terms of quality.
Enjoyed the Asian tapas but the drinks were average.
Good sushi great menu options and drink specials
We were pleasantly surprised at the different menu options as well as the taste! we went in to sample the menu for upcoming event. We will be going with bites for our event. We will keep you posted on how the catering portion worked out.
Always a great experience dining here! The food is always good and the servers are always so welcoming
Hi Taylor...Thank you for your continued support and for this wonderful review! We really appreciate it! :D
I highly recommend Bites as a place to go eat. This is more of a family place, not high-end fancy, but superb food! So if you want that great, casual dining to go hang out and relax with your friends, this is the place to go!
Hi SummerC...Thank you very much for your lovely review! We hope to see you again soon :)
Super delicious food, beautifully plated !!!! The waitress was extremely nice and helpful, first time there but I loved it and will be going back !!!!!!
Thank you very much for dining with us and for your 5-star review! This is really nice to hear! See you again soon :D
Munched on appetizers and sushi. All were delicious. We had the Salmon Ceviche, Crying Tiger, Basil Cream Mussels and Samurai Roll. Service was excellent. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and it was not very busy. Fun people watching if you sit by the windows. Would go again. Surprisingly good sized portions for reasonable prices.
Thank you very much, VanessaG! We really appreciate it and your business! Hope to see you again real soon :D
Reasonably priced, interesting menu but food was unspectacular. Friendly service and loved the outdoor seating!
Thank you very much for your review! We appreciate your feedback and will continue to improve each and every day!
We were early and the staff seated us. Just an indication of their attention and consideration. Food was well prepered and portions huge. The 5 spice duck melted in my mouth and was impossible to finish.
My only gripe was with the mussels. It’s listed as an appetizer but was entree sized and just a little too much garlic
Great service and quality food in a relaxed Boystown environment!!
Thank you very much, MarioA! We truly appreciate this :)
Went there for brunch, which is not suggested. They only have 4 menu options, all delicious but very limited. This place wants to attract a brunch crowd but they need to get the basics, including coffee. Glad I checked it out but won’t go back.
Excellent service and a fun menu. A great addition to the neighborhood. We’ll definitely be going back.
Overlooked chicken and shrimp. Disappointing.
It Exceeded my expectations. The staff was very cordial and customer focused. The food presentation was creative and beautiful. The flavors were outstanding. I will return, and highly recommend BITES
BITES has PHENOMENAL food. Nothing I have tried there has been mediocre - EVER. I recommend going at opening hours because that's when less people are there and you get to pick a table. CANNOT wait to visit them again!
I LOVE Bites! The staff is so incredibly nice and the food is always outstanding! The shrimp shumai appetizer is amazing! Drinks are great! I've had the sushi, ramen, burgers and I think pretty much everything else on the menu here over the years and I can honestly say that I've never had anything that wasn't awesome. It's truly one of those "neighborhood gems" that you hear about.
Bites was a great neighborhood find! Extensive menu with lots of options for everyone. Food was excellent, service was excellent, and the restaurant itself is a gem. We will definitely be back!
Our dinner was outstanding! The service is always so friendly. The staff just seems to be happy all the time here. I love that! The drinks were great and the food was outstanding! We had the new Pad Thai with crab and it was amazing! Thank you, once again, for an outstanding dinner!
Food was subpar and overpriced
The food was delicious, the ambiance was great and the service was 5- star. I will be back in the near future.
Really good sushi rolls - especially liked the Hot Chef roll! Also, the spicy margarita was delicious. The duck bahn mi was ok - not as flavorful as it should be, more hoisin, maybe? The basil chili prawns appetizer was good but hard to eat.
Amazing value for your buck. Recommend this place for a casual bite with friends.
We ordered veg dumplings and shrimp dumplings, soft shell crab sliders, a variety of bao, and steak and eggs. All delicious! Nice place, easy parking, pleasant service. A little work on the coffee, and it's an easy 5 stars. Thanks for brunch, would totally return for another meal.
I have been going to BITES for a year or two and I've never been disappointed. However, since they did the remodel, I don't know if the food quality is there anymore. We got sushi when we went but it definitely was just average sushi. I don't know if it was $15 a roll worth it. We ordered a $20 sangria pitcher during happy hour and it was incredibly water-y. I guess that's to be expected for happy hour. The ambiance for this place and their small bites never disappoint. I don't know if I would spend as much on the sushi never time though.
Went to during restaurant week but not satisfied.
1. No Brunch for restaurant week which we were like to order
2. Thai iced coffee too sweet
3. Served sticky rice with vinyl covered.
Excellent service, food from restaurant week menu was amazing.
Went for Chicago Restaurant week and really enjoyed it. Great ambiance and the servers did not rush us when we finished (always a plus for me!). The white wine sangria was awesome but I'd say the appetizers were better than the main dish - I got the orange chicken - the desserts were incredible. Overall pretty good experience, I'd recommend.
This place was great! The food was delicious and our waiter was very nice and attentive.
Just a great experience overall. From the decor to service and definitely the food. Worth going back more than once.
Everything our group tried was delicious, from the taro fries, shrimp shumai, duck and waffles, and desserts (we tried both the roti and chocolate chip cookie dough chopsticks). We're planning on returning to try some other delicious-looking items.
Great happy hour specials!
