Bistrot Lepic & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
The food, service, and ambiance were great! Ordered the terrine to start and the flavor and preparation was out of this world. They have some oldies but goldies on the menu but I recommend trying some of their specialities. The kidneys were extremely flavorful and tender. The server was attentive and the owner stopped by the table to check on the food. Will definitely come back!
A quiet location located outside the hubbub of Georgetown that met my desire for not being noisy (business discussion). But I'd have to say the food was at best 'ok' and when the bill came (with one glass of wine) I was shocked at the price. Not one I'd recommend or try again. But maybe we tried the wrong things. I had the fish special and associate had the duck confit. I don't think either of us were impressed.
We had a wonderful dinner with an excellent bottle of wine for my birthday. I have wanting to visit this restaurant for awhile now and DC Restaurant Week was the perfect occasion. My wife enjoyed the Beef Medallion and I had the Kidney dish (Rognons de veau). Both were very filling and were on the Restaurant Week menu. Oh yea, the wine - we enjoyed a bottle of red Cahors from the south of France - delicious, melt in your mouth flavor.
As if anticipating the excellent food were not enough, the very friendly and caring service is beyond what is expected or received in most restaurants.
My husband and I always leave the bistro anticipating our next return.
I introduced a few friends to Le Pepic after a concert recently and they are now ardent followers also.
The appetizers are so good, particularly the onion tart. I most often order fish, and every time it is perfectly cooked.
Also a hit with everyone, is the free parking directly across from the restaurant.
Wonderful restaurant! Menu includes dishes you won't find everywhere (e.g., veal kidneys my husband thought were out of this world). There's a reasonably priced, well thought out wine list. All the food was excellent, from appetizer and bread through dessert. Service was appropriately attentive and friendly. We were visiting from out of town; if we lived in Georgetown we'd be there every week.
This is one of the most reliable and most pleasant DC restaurants I know. It's an intimate place that's comfortable and unassuming with an wonderful French menu. The staff is about as professional as it gets and helps to make it a very satisfying place to eat. You know they are going to be respectful, but engaging, and that things will go smoothly with logistics almost unnoticed. The menu has a number of "standards" that I crave and sometimes struggle to choose among - the onion tart or their soups as starters, the salmon in potato crust, liver (if you gotta eat it, do it there) or any of the fish specials. The desserts are wonderful - yes, the floating island nearly DOES float. Parking is effortless on S Street. Dinner there always is something I look forward to.
Lovely and quiet, Bistrot Lepic is a nice reprieve from the Georgetown burger and bar scene. We enjoyed a civilized meal, well prepared with fresh ingredients. Surprisingly, our servers seemed indifferent to the great food they were serving...bored, almost. I don't know why. Bistrot Lepic was a nice oasis within strike of the bustling hubbub of Georgetown.
My family went to Bistrot Lepic for my birthday, and it was a great choice. The food was wonderful, the service was excellent, and they did something very sweet - my mother mentioned to the server that it was my birthday, and during the dessert course, though I didn't get a dessert, they brought out a complimentary glass of champagne with a birthday candle taped to it. Made my night :).
The Spousal Unit and I eat French regularly and decided to go to Bistrot Lepic for a change. The food was made from quality ingredients, expertly prepared and beautifully presented by an attentive staff. The wine list was loaded with treasures and shows the owner's discerning wine sense. Would have gotten top marks all around except for one thing, the incense. Incense is used when closing up for the night and was still very much in evidence when we arrived. For heaven's sake, buy an ionizer. The sense of smell and taste are closely linked and the incense interfered with the enjoyment of the meal. I'm astonished that a wine-loving owner would consider incense an acceptable substitute for ventilation and a dehumidifier.
All four of us thought our food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the three composed salad entree. The chocolate tart was good but so intense that it should be shared among four. The jazz trio was excellent, creating an enriching ambiance. It all made for a memorable evening.
We enjoyed dinner for Ladies Night Out at Bistrot Lepic. The food and atmosphere were tres French! Enjoyed French wine selections, l'escargot, as well as our various entrees. The only downside, the tables are very close together, and being seated next to a loud talker means you get to hear the entire conversation of the table next to you. Still, we would return the next time we're in DC.
This was a first visit and the food was absolutely delicious. At the recommendation of the bartender, we tried the "Pied de cochon" Crusty boneless pig feet with onion mustard sauce. I had the "Joues de veau braises" Braised veal cheeks (osso-bucco style) which was cooked to perfection while my friend tried the "Truite meuniere" Pan seared rainbow trout. We each tasted the others entrees. His comment was that we would be back and order what the other had. It was that good! I cannot wait to come for jazz night or brunch.
Bistrot Lepic is a fine French bistro for dining. The food, including salads, appetizers, and entree choices were top-notch for our double birthday celebration. Everyone found something to love. While a bit on the pricey side, the quality of the preparation and service merits it. We've eaten here once before and will return on another special occasion.
Two happy people entered Bistro Lepic Saturday 5/20. Two totally satisfied diners departed overwhelmed by the superb cuisine. From the two bottles of a magnificent Chateau Neuf du Pa, to the desserts and coffee to end the meal, no portion of this meal could be defined as average. The appetizers were top of the line and my miniature quiche was amazing. My date raved about her veal entrée and when she sampled my roasted quail she admitted that this was the best she had ever tasted. Dessert was apple tart, coffee ad espresso. Service was excellent and dining in the second floor wine bar is an intimate and enjoyable experience. Not my first trip to Bistro Lepic, and I certainly shall return.
