First visit to Bistro Moncur and we were not dissapointed. Service was great, with outstanding service from our sommelier. The food was delicious. Robust flavours and good portions as you would expect from French bistro style cuisine. We left well sated and look forward to our next occasion to visit.

Took a dear friend of mine there for her 95th birthday and the staff did an unbelievable job to make it memorable. The food was excellent as usual but the service was the highlight. Lovely day.

The food was delicate but the waiter that served us was rude. He implied that my brother and I were ladies then went on to giggle over his own joke. When we left we said goodbye and he ignored us. You would think after spending $160 he would have been courteous!

I had booked over a month in advance for Valentines day - I didn't mind that they changed the original booking time as requested, that wasn't an issue. Everyone in this establishment was lovely, except one server. I don't recall his name, although he was sporting the same glasses that Jeffrey Dahmer wore. He was rude and unwelcoming the entire time. When I asked him to explain how the menu worked (because when we were seated, we weren't told it was a set menu - once again not an issue) his response was 'don't worry, you'll only have to pay $99 per head' - money wasn't the issue here, I wanted to know how it worked. Another lady assisted with this and she was lovely, she went above and beyond. Like I said, I can't fault any of the other staff except this one person. When it came to paying the bill, he came to the table and swiped my card, once the receipt printed he threw it at me and stormed off. My partner and I couldn't believe it. What was meant to be a lovely valentines evening was over-shadowed by this man who obviously has an issue on either working on Valentines day or just doesn't want to be where he is. I have never experienced treatment like this before and after spending $300, I can't say i'd be back to be treated like that again. He was rude and arrogant and spoiled a special evening for my partner and myself. I'm really disappointed.

Bistro Moncur is a wonderful dining experience. The food is amazing, service even better and I just love. I even proposed at Bistro Moncur 16 years ago and we just enjoyed another Valentines Day lunch there.
Thoroughly recommend Bistro Moncur.

Bistro Moncur is a long standing icon where you can be guaranteed that the food will always be excellent. It is probably on the pricey side but for a special occasion its definitely worth the expense. The staff were efficient and attentive but could do with a bit more friendliness and warmth in their interaction with patrons.

Lovely food, all dishes were excellent. Restaurant was full on a Monday night and we had a table right at the door which was not the best. Service was slow and staff arrogant which detracted from the beautiful food.

Lovely neighbourhood restaurant. Service was outstanding. Friendly, efficient and courteous. Food was very tasty; excellent green salad. The souffle was a real surprise! It looked very heavy when it was served but it turned out to be light, delicious and fluffy. Thank you for a great experience.

We are regulars, over many years, to Bistro Moncur Woollahra. On Monday I arrived at 6.45pm, one of the first to arrive in restaurant. It took ages to get a glass of water, and I (then we when the others arrived) got no attention, having to ask for everything. It was about an hour later that our food order was finally taken. The waiter at our table was absolutely hopeless, an amateur, his eye contact and interest was scanning around the room, not on us, his table of five guests. We started joking about it. Appalling service, and extra appalling given the experience/long-standing reputation of the restaurant + the cost and reputation of the food. We left no tip, the first time ever.

We are from the Gold Coast where there is nothing even slightly comparable to Bistro Moncur. We booked our lunch from seeing the restaurant on a gourmet cooking program and it did not disappoint. In fact, we shall remember our divine authentic French lunch forever and will always dine here, every time we return to Sydney.

We've made this annual event between three close friends. The staff were attentive (the right amount) and the food is amazing. I keep thinking l should try something else but keep going back to the eye fillet with béarnaise sauce...god, it's good!!

Overpriced and over-rated restaurant.
Moncur left us more than disappointed, we left sad and slightly angry.
The charm and elegance that one would expect from a well established venue was non-existent: service was rushed and impersonal, completely lacking engagement and interest in our experience. We both ordered entree, main and dessert, with portion sizes seemingly designed for those with insatiable appetites - my wife's seafood linguini contained an excessive quantity of over-cooked pasta (enough to feed 3 people) and failed to deliver anything exciting in terms of flavour. My salmon was well produced, however the mountainous portion turned an enjoyable dish in to a chore.
Mains failed to ignite our enthusiasm, with my duck over-done and dry and my wife's fillet ruined with a repulsive deluge of bearnaise smothering the beef (the beef itself was of very good quality) completely over-powering the delicacy of the meat (why the sauce was not presented on the side is inexcusable). Worst of all was the pile of french fries thrown on to the plate accompanying the beef fillet - this really was shocking and such primitive practices restricted to local pub counter-lunches.
This left us with dessert, choosing the souffle and creme caramel. The creme caramel was passable without being memorable in any way. The souffle however was memorable for all the wrong reasons, tasting like little more than a bowl of warm egg covered in super-market grade berry sauce. This souffle is to be avoided at all costs - quite simply, it was awful.
If you enjoy a very expensive pub-style meal with enough food to easily fill a starving lumberjack, then Bistro Moncur will suit your needs. If you are looking for a more refined dining experience then stay well clear of this place - it is over-priced and under-performing. luckily for Moncur it is frequented by well-heeled locals who don't mind paying three times the price for dishes any RSL Club apprentice cook would throw together.

Have been to the restaurant on many occasions over the last few years.The recent meal seemed to be fairly expensive and not as creative or tasty as experienced on prior occasions.Whilst the standard is relatively high the general size of the meals is not particularly large,and one questions the value.my john dory fish was $55 for two small portions .
The steak tatare entree was not particularly well seasoned and was very small in size slightly larger in diameter of a 50cent piece.

I have been fortunate enough to wine and dine all over Sydney. I had read some reviews and added this place to the list of places to eat at for a special occasion.

I was in Sydney for the weekend and had the pleasure of having dinner at Bistro Moncur on Saturday night.

Great food, great service and a cosy and romantic atmosphere.

Will definitely be back.

NOT VERY HYGENIC HAVING TO BUTTER MY BREAD ON THE PAPER TABLE & USE IT TO EAT FROM. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE SIDE PLATE, OR DID THEY DECIDE THAT BECAUSE THE TABLE WAS SO SMALL THERE WAS NO ROOM FOR THE SIDE PLATE.

Food is terrific especially the appetizers the pasta made from vegetables.. it's all good and flavorful. In typically have two or more starters because main courses usually disappoint engen tho I didn't try- the mains looked amazing.

This restaurant had good ambience and wait staff, however I found my main meal (pork sausages) very ordinary and lacking flavour. The omelette entree and bombe alaska dessert however were excellent. Overall, I would not necessarily recommend it as for the same money I think there are better options.

First of all bravo to the chefs, the food was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The drawback for my experience here was the staff/service, we had a mix of waitors all night but the waiter who took our order was much less professional than the rest and actually forgot to put our order through so we sat waiting for quite some time before getting our entrees (the French onion soufflé was worth the wait!)

After finishing our entrees he seemed very rushed to get the rest of our orders through and I had to say several times that we would like a little time in between the courses.

When making my booking I noted that it was for my partners birthday, there was no acknowledgment of this throughout the whole night whereas almost any restaurant will put a candle or something in the dessert so it was a little disappointing for nothing there.

We will be returning next week for my partners mothers birthday as she loves French food and wants to give it a go so hopefully they can redeem to a full 5 star review next week!
