Great experience. Food is very good and a bit rich. Beautiful atmosphere and service. A perfect spot for a special occasion. It could be a place where reservations might one day be hard to get.
Space is beautiful. Food was good. Some dishes better than others. Service was strange. Probably won’t go back.
Outstanding. Beyond all expectations. We will be back next week. An unbelievably good addition to restaurants in South Orange Maplewood
Most excellent meal, as agreed by our party of four. Service was also very good. Corner seat was close to a speaker so I might subtract .001 points for that, but otherwise amazingly impressive for a new restaurant. Loved the mushroom risotto and the skate special (brown butter) I had. Other entrees enjoyed by my friends that evening were the duck and the NY strip. Mussels first course was also super flavorful - we kept the broth to dip bread during dinner.
Wonderful: delicious food that is sophisticated but not precious; a beautiful room; well-trained staff. A GREAT addition to the restaurants in the region.
Great experience overall. It’s now in our rotation of restaurants to frequent.
Back for another fun night with our family of 4 for a chill Sunday. Everything was as yummy as our last visit. We love the homey decor/artwork, feels like a get away with a hip vibe. Great French jazz music playing & you can hear each other talk. (Not your typical stuffy place where you have to whisper). We had smooth service by Mark. Ordered a bottle of their NJ white which was surprisingly good. Had the special rare tuna app. & chicken entree (juicy & delicious). Wife had beet salad & swordfish. Teens had soup & cauliflower entree / lobster crepe & steak au poivre. All the plates were licked clean. Chocolate ganache for desert with excellent coffee.
We travel from another town for this place, but would travel farther! Attention to every detail is evident by the staff & kitchen - highly recommend.
Just amazing from beginning to end. We entertained a client and it was a lovely time. 6 people were taken care of, comfortable and the food was outstanding. Risotto, Lobster Crepe and Steak Au Poivre were standouts. Parking directly across the street. A great addition to the Soma food scene.
I am done. The food is great. Room is beautiful. The music is too loud and I am done fighting with the staff about it. Our waitress shouldn’t be a waitress. Nice person in the wrong profession. I have been 4 times and I won’t go back.
Food is outstanding.
This was our first time dining at Bistro d’Azur. The large space has charming decor and comfortable seating. The cuisine was top-notch. Every dish we had was attractively plated, perfectly prepared and, most important, delicious. Service was excellent. Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend Bistro d’Azur and look forward to dining there many times in the future. (Note: It is a BYO.)
This was our second time at this restaurant, and just as the first time, it was amazing. Great food, superb service. While menu is limited, it is simply delicious. We had the lamb chops, salmon, scallops paella, NY strip, swordfish. For appetizers we tried the lobster crepe and octopus. For dessert, the lemon meringue, créeme brûlée. Everything was amazing. Plus is BYOB
One of the best options in South Orange
We had another absolutely outstanding diner! The delicious food and appetizers were enhanced by the wonderful service. The desserts are equally superb.
I had the swordfish and it was the best I have ever had.
We plan to dine here regularly---
It's so wonderful to have a five star restaurant in South Orange.
Lovely dinner. Easy to have a conversation. Staff was friendly and efficient
A delicious addition to South Orange.
Our first time here, we were impressed by the classy room. The menu is very limited, but has interesting choices. The beet salad appetizer was excellent and the lemon meringue dessert was light and satisfying. Unfortunately, the lamb chops which were ordered medium and which we were told would be “pink” arrived rare, very rare. We did not send them back because we were dining with others and did not want to create a delay or a fuss. The waitress who took our order made no effort to check on us and it was difficult to get any one’s attention when we needed something. In addition, the music was blaring out of the speaker overhead, making conversation difficult. We will give the place another chance, because it has potential.
So sorry you were unhappy. We always make things right and are disappointed that we weren't given the chance. We would have gladly fixed your lamp chops and removed them from your bill. Likewise we would have lowered the music We appreciate your feedback, especially your comment about your server, which we will address immediately. Although you found our menu "limited" it is always changing to accommodate our commitment to fresh seasonal ingredients. We are glad to hear you will try again!
Amazing quality of food and service in a beautiful inviting ambience. I also love the byob factor.
Charming and stylish new restaurant with fabulous, high quality French/Med. food. My girlfriend and I both loved all (3) courses. I recently lived in France for 3 years and the flavors and quality of food at Bistro d'Azur rival the delicious meals I ate in Lyon. Can bring your own wine or order off edited, short wine list. I would recommend bringing your own wine to allow for best choice and quality.
Nice, warm decor, good menu, and friendly service. Since it is still relatively new, I suspect the food will only get better. The sauces were a little thick and buttery. A welcome addition to the SO food scene.
My wife and I were looking for a new date night spot not far from Summit and we were glad to find Bistro d'Azur!
Parking was easy, space beautiful and conducive to conversation, and we LOVED the food.
Overall a great value and somewhere we look forward to enjoying again by ourselves or with friends.
What's not to like? Lovely food, ambiance & service. Treat yourself. Our table had lobster crepe, roasted beef salad, the fish special, scallops and chicken tangine and we all thought the food and presentation was outstanding. As to ambiance, it was lively on a Saturday night but not loud. The soundtrack playlist is great. The first thing I noticed and liked were the large tables. Drives me crazy to sit at a small table with everything crammed on top. Two quibbles-I didn't notice a coat check and no one asked to take our coats so we sat on them and the teas offered at the end did not include any herbals without citrus or mint. Small matters in the scheme of things. Wish the owners and staff best of luck going forward -- they've raised the bar considerably in this neighborhood.
Fabulous. Everything one would want for an exceptional dinner!
This is the second time we've eaten at Ristro d'Azur. The ambiance is great and the food matches. It is a real addition to the South Orange dinning scene. We recommend it to all our friends.
Great food, service gracious but a little slow
Great night out ... with great food. Finally a decent restaurant in South Orange.
Delicious food in an extremely attractive setting. It is evident that the chef is talented and devoted to his craft which translate into a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience for patrons. We will return.
We went to recently opened French Mediterranean restaurant Bistro D’Azur for the first time and had a sensational dinner. The restaurant is beautifully designed, the food is sensational, and the service is friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. We have to find a way to fit it into our tight restaurant rotation. We shared 3 excellent appetizers including a special of scallops topped with foie gras in a carrot ginger puree, and a fig reduction; lobster crepe with chardonnay butter, melted leeks and mushrooms (split portion pictured); roasted beet salad with baked goat cheese, arugula, fennel, and radish in an orange vinaigrette. For entrees I had melt in your mouth roasted lamb rib chops, chermoula, pearl couscous, squash, dried fruit, and almonds. My wife had pan seared diver scallops paella with saffron calasparra rice, chicken, chorizo, escargot, peas, pimento, and tomato beurre.
My husband & I finally went this weekend and we were both pleased with the experience! Definitely try the lobster crepe & the lamb chops. Also suggest lemon meringue if you have a sweet tooth. Service was helpful & the atmosphere is lively yet cozy at the same time. We will be back!
Enjoyed the food, service and especially the look of the place. The art on the wall complimented the color scheme nicely.
Outstanding, really, and new in 2019. Appreciated that they applied my note to Open Table for my son’s birthday. Romantic, great design and vibe. Service needs work on timing and most importantly on showing peaceful, slow calm. The server so rushed her words that she could not be understood and the gentleman who delivered dishes was basically sweating profusely. So, they need to calm down. An 8 that will eventually be a 10! - We’ll return!
Loved the atmosphere. Felt like eating in a friends home.( only if the friend could create magic with food) My apricot glazed chicken was served in such an aromatic and delicious broth that I have been wishing for another bite through the week.
Felt a bit rushed but the food was delicious.
The best dining experience I have had in New Jersey this year. Everything that we ordered was superb including swordfish, roast chicken, smoked salmon and beet salad. The service was impeccable and the ambiance and decor were charming and delightful. Can't wait to go back
Excellent food! Everything was cooked perfectly. Also enjoyed that it was BYOB.
All of our entrees were excellent, and the special risotto with butternut squash, parmesan, etc. was delicious as an appetizer. Very attractive and inviting space, excellent service.
My new go-to place. It hits on all 3 aspects (food, service, decor). Obviously I am not the only one who feels this way, since I can see business has steadily been increasing.
Beautifully decorated. Very good food. Our waiter Michael was outstanding.
I loved this restaurant from the minute I walked in. Decor is simple and comfortable yet elegant, staff welcoming. All dishes that we sampled were so well prepared and presented! I would highly recommend the lobster crepe appetizer! I will definitely be going back.
Food and atmostphere were very good. A little pricey but we enjoyed our night out with our friends very much.
