I had visited Bistro D’Azur before COVID and it was excellent. They did not disappoint when I visited them for my first dinner out since March. The service was flawless. We never felt uncomfortable. They kept strictly to the COVID guidelines and we were able to relax and enjoy the evening. The dishes were delicious.

If your missing going out but nervous about exposure this is a great place for you. It’s not on a busy road so the foot traffic was light, the seating is spacious, the staff took their safety measures seriously without making you nervous, and you can BYOB.

Celebrated my second wedding anniversary here. It’s our first outing since the pandemic. They had outdoor seating and the tables were well spaced out. The lobster crepe was to die for. I also recommend the grilled octopus and the duck entree.

It's an aesthetically appealing spot. However, we had to ask for bread and butter. They put out 1 square of butter for 4 people. Also had to ask for salt which came without any pepper. Also, the portions were small except for the steak that my friend ordered. With tip, the cost was $340 for 4 people. Pretty expensive for a mediocre experience.

Wonderful, much needed upscale casual restaurant in South Orange. Appreciate that there were vegan options (or items that were easily made vegan and gluten free) on the menu. We’ll be back.

We enjoyed our first visit and will consider going again. The food was really good but it is a somewhat limited menu.
Additionally, prices are high and portions ( risotto appetizer in particular) are not commensurate. Oddly, the menu does not offer any kind of green salad.
Four of us shared 2 appetizers, each ordered our own entree, and shared 1 dessert- With tax and tip, we paid $64.00 per person.

Thanks so much for your review. Although we know our prices aren't inexpensive we use the freshest, highest quality ingredients, source as locally as possible, and prepare every dish from scratch. Our prices are actually less than our nearest fine dining competitors. We hope you will come again soon, as our menu changes frequently to keep it varied. Thanks again!

We had a wonderful first experience at the Bistro. Mimi at the front kindly changed our table (unsolicited) to give us a large round table in the front (lovely!). The wait staff were hospitable and attentive. The crepe and risotto appetizers were excellent. I had the steak which was beautifully flavored although a bit fatty for my liking. My friend had the scallop entree and thought it was terrific; his wife had the Skate which she seemed to enjoy a bit less. Wonderful desserts. We all commented that the ambiance was so nicely done and we really appreciated that the tables are not on top of each other. We'll be back!

We had a very nice dinner out, there were 4 of us in our party. The server was very nice and attentive and we really liked the decor and style of the restaurant. The food was very good, we all enjoyed our 1st courses and entrees. The price was high for the amount of food received, we felt.
We would definitely go back but due to the cost, it would be a special occasion kind of night out for sure.

We had a lovely evening. Needed to tell the waiter to slow down after appetizer was served very quickly. Food was outstanding. We shared the lobster crepe (yummy with lots of lobster), and we had the lamb chops and venison, both of which were prepared to each of our liking's. Was very happy the waiter offered to decant our bottle of red wine. BYO restaurants rarely do that. Overall, a great dining experience and can't wait to bring friends.

I am always looking for new and interesting restaurants (especially French/Mediterranean ) to try in hopes that they become one of the new "favorites". After reading a nice review in the NJ Monthly, I figured we would try Bistro d' Azur. The restaurant interior is beautifully done in hues of blue. It has a certain sense of sophistication, warmth and that French Riviera feel. I loved the layout which allowed for quiet, spacious dining.
The service was attentive and thorough.
We started with their assortment of bread which was baked in house and worthy of a few repeats.
Appetizers:
Grilled Octopus-chickpeas, celery, olives Nicoise
Roasted Beets Salad-baked goat cheese, arugula, fennel, radish, orange vinaigrette
Lobster Crepe- chardonnay butter, melted leeks, mushrooms
Foraged Mushroom Risotto-mushrooms, butternut squash, mascarpone, Parmigiano Reggiano
All the appetizers were excellent. The crepe had a good amount of lobster. However, the risotto stole the show. It was creamy and simply delicious. We could have had a triple portion since it was so good and a bit on the small side.

Entrees:
Roasted Lamb Rib Chops-chermoula, pearl couscous, squash, dried fruit, almond
Skate fish "Spanikorizo"-orzo, spinach, feta, dill, tomato cinnamon reduction
Roasted Venison Loin- pomme puree, Brussel sprouts, glazed carrots, juniper glace
Monk fish-braised fennel, leeks, potato, mussels, bouillabaisse reduction, rouille, crostini
Again all the dishes were excellent, perfectly cooked and beautifully executed. The bouillabaisse had great layers of flavor and depth.

Dessert:
Creme Brulee-fresh berry, tuile
Gateau de Cognac-cognac glaze, cinnamon whipped cream, fresh berries
Lemon Meringue-vanilla crumble, creme anglais, Brulee
Loved them all. The lemon meringue was served in a bowl. It's a deconstructed version of the classic pie but was leveled up.

Wednesday night, so fairly empty at 6 PM. Service was attentive and polite. We shared an appetizer. Main course meals were both excellent. Decided to forego dessert this time - the selections looked good. There was limited on-street parking. One of us took the risk of parking in the municipal building's lot across the street, warning signs be damned. Fortunately, no ticket.
I'm looking forward to eating there again, and soon. Highly recommend this place for food, ambience, and service.

Was excited to go back after a first very good experience. Unfortunately, at our 830 reservation, the steak option was no longer available. When you have a relatively small menu, running out of one of your main options because you are at the second seating is pretty unacceptable. The server did offer a stand in of filet, which was not really what we wanted. In addition, the service was not as attentive it could have been. Had to ask the server several times to get us wine from the bucket it was being cooled in.

We apologize. Because we source locally, make every dish from scratch & use fresh (never frozen) ingredients it can challenging to keep perfect inventory. We hope you understand that we're a small family owned start up and with a goal of using high quality fresh products we do sometimes sell out of things. Thanks for letting us know about your wine service, that's not okay with us, and we appreciate you letting us know so we can address the problem and keep improving. We hope you'll come back.

Handsome, comfortable top shelf restaurant. We shared a rissoto appetizer and a lemon meringue dessert. Entrees were a scallop dish and a swordfish platter. All four items were expertly prepared, perfectly cooked and attractively presented. Exceptional service - each course came at just the right time.
