A great find. Great ambiance and service. We had the beet salad as an appetizer-very good , lovely presentation but somewhat salty . The eggplant appetizer was wonderful .

We live nearby and got really excited when they opened, booked a table as soon as we could. Lovely decor, great service (napkin folded when you come back from the loo) and not stuffy or pretentious. Loved the Parisian jazz music they played too!

I do hope the food gets a little better. What we ordered was hit or miss. Eggplant appetizer was not very good. It was too tomato-ey and salty (eggplant should be carmelized and almost silky but it was tough and underdone) and seasoned with raisins and nutmeg (ugh) but I loved that they split the appetizer for us to share without asking.

We also ordered the steak au poivre and lamb chops. Lamb chops were cooked to perfection, steak was overdone but a delicious cut of meat made up for it. Loved the baby potatoes, mushrooms and spinach they served it with.

Homemade ice creams for dessert was a huge serving, great for sharing but nothing special. Cheese plate was presented extremely beautifully. Loved that they had half-bottles of wine. We will come back, try some other dishes next time.

This was a last minute reservation that worked out quite well. We were celebrating a birthday but did not want to deal with the angst of NJ Transit. After seeing the space evolve over the summer we were very curious as to what French Mediterranean really was. We were very pleasantly surprised. It felt very simply sophisticated. The overall vibe was welcoming and enjoyable. The menu was also very upscale. The selection of breads were tasty and the rosemary infused olive oil an excellent way to wake up the palette. As they are finding their way I was not too bothered at the fact that the first course and the table bread came out less than five minutes apart, timing and rhythm will get better. My first course was the eggplant which while very ambitious was overwhelmed by tomato and all of the other flavors were lost it was too acidic even with the crispy flatbread. A slight bit of sweet would have balanced it nicely but the artichoke was also savory. He had the foie gras with apricot and was quite happy. I had what I always order in French restaurants lamb chops rare to medium and they were perfect. I shared with our lovely hostess Valerie that the last time I had them at a Manhattan spot also famous with Michelin stars I sent them back for being over cooked. My husband had the scallops paella inspired dish and was in heaven. The flavors were spot on. Dessert for me was the classic creme brulee and my husband had a monstrous slice of chocolate cake which he had with a scoop of vanilla ice cream carrying his birthday candle. He ate the entire thing with gusto. My creme brulee was smooth, creamy and perfectly done. The portions were ideally sized, we were not hungry on the way out. We will definitely be back as it is my turn at the scallops. Welcome to the neighborhood, long may you stay.

The ambience was perfect, I loved all the attention to detail. The food was very well prepared, and presentation was perfect. The menu was OK, not the most inspired. I would probably try it again seasonally as the menu gets updated

Very quiet friendly atmosphere. Prices are full for suburban dining. The menu is very creative and sophisticated. I had the salmon for my main course and found that the either the salmon or sides had a strong salty flavor, which I don't favor. Appetizers and desserts were flawless. I look forward to returning and trying other dishes.

Fantastic atmosphere and really good food. Ordered the butternut squash soup and the lamb rib chops - both fantastic. It’s BYOB or they have wines by the bottle you can purchase. They also have nice wine glasses which I really appreciate in a BYOB restaurant! Will definitely go back again soon

The lobster crepe: the crepe light, superb with the lobster moist and tender. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection with a green sauce beterr than any mint accompanimentI have had with lamb. The steak was so tender and moist, one almost did not need a knife. The restaurant is a wonderful, wonderful experience on S. Orange's new and our own "French Riviera.

Interesting place - overall not bad although the service was not up to par with the superb food. The restaurant is very attractive, a nice clean look to the place. The Greeting was warm and welcoming. The service was a bit frazzled and spotty although they seemed to be trying hard. The gem of the night was the food - lamb chops were delicious as were the scallops. We'd give it another try and hope for a smoother and better level of service.

Excellent food, great ambiance. Lovely restaurant layout, cozy but with space. Music was a little too loud but restaurant was not that crowded, would probably be ok later in the evening. Halibut was superb, great piece of fish with lovely sauce, steak was tender and perfectly cooked. Service was a bit slow and brusque. Would definitely go again.

Getting to the restaurant from northern bergen county was a traffic ridden hike that included a closed ramp .Though I called to say we would be a few minutes late, it was not an issue as our table was just being cleared.
The restaurant decor is lovely & soothing. The metal ceiling is a beautiful shade of blue, but the metal part doesn't help with noise absorption. I was glad there wasn't a large party near us.
The staff was gracious and welcoming. It seemed that there were many servers who were quick to do any job that needed doing. They seemed to trade off with each other.
Our starters were tasty and came very quickly. My husband had the smoked salmon appetizer which was very minimal but spread across the plate. We were hungry and he was done in 2 minutes. Two of us enjoyed the pumpkin soup that was served in cute little tureens. While very tasty, it could have been served hotter & perhaps a little more generously. Of the four in our party, two ordered fish entrees. The portions were modest (though the prices are not). My halibut was a little dry and again, could have been served hotter. My husband loved his chicken tagine and our friend enjoyed his steak. The desserts were tasty & unusual.

Wonderful across the board. Excellent food, wonderful warm service, lovely decor, terrific non-alcoholic cocktails and a nice local wine list. You can also BYO here which I always like. I’m wildly impressed that it’s only been open roughly a month and that everything is seamless. Can’t wait to go back.

Knowing the background of executive chef/owner Richard Krug, we came here for our first dinner with very high expecttations.
WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!!!
The beautiful ambiance enhanced our enjoying an exceptional meal.
All of the dishes/appetizers and dessert were not just delicious, they were also plated in a decorative way.
The entire floor staff members are freindly, knowledgeable about the menu and totally professional.

It's nice that SOMA now has a top quality place to dine in South Orange, not just Maplewood.
We intend to dine here again and have added Bistro d'Azur to our list of regular places to dine.

This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend and I have to say it did not disappoint. We shared the lobster crepe to begin and very glad we did because it’s very rich creamy and very delicious. My husband had the lamb chops and I had the scallops paella. Both dishes were absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert so I can not comment about that. The service was wonderful. Seth was very attentive. The best feature of this beautiful restaurant is that whoever designed it did a wonderful job regarding the noise level. We could have a quiet conversation without having to raise our voices

Really excellent addition to the area. Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, and all the small touches really make a difference. I wish there was a bit more variety on the menu - especially more vegetarian options - but I know it’s only been open for a few weeks. But overall, it was great and excited to go back!

Fabulous meal, I had the Lobster crepe as my appetizer and lamb ribs as my entree, everything it was absolutely spectacular, I wanna thank Sergio the server that took really care of us, he was super knowledgeable and payed attention for every single details.
Hostess it was very smiley and friendly and gave us a very comfortable spot. Chef Krug as always phenomenal with his skills, definitely going to recommend all my family and friends to comeback it.

Came for dinner after attending a New Jersey Symphony Orchestra concert. Had a lovely meal Prepared by Chef Krug. As usual, amazing dishes. Loved the lobster app and the scallop entree. Polished off with a decadent chocolate torte. Merci Chef Krug and Mary 👏.

What a terrific evening we spent at Bistro d'Azure. The menu offered something for everyone, when we came with three generations of family friends. I especially loved the grilled octopus salad and was jealous of my dining partner's butternut squash soup - what a lovely presentation! The entrees were expertly conceived and my scallops were cooked perfectly. (My dad enjoyed the fresh pasta special and was very impressed.) From the selection of fresh bread to the flourless chocolate torte (don't miss it) every bite was something special. The decor at Bistro d'Azur is chic without being fussy. The lighting is flattering without being too dark and our seats in the corner booth couldn't have been more comfy. (Such a cool blue ceiling too.) While the menu is definitely fine dining, don't save this restaurant for a special occasion, I think it works any night of the week! Oh and the service was professional without being stuffy, and our server made sure my gluten-free needs were taken care off without any fuss. We can't wait to return!

We are so lucky to have such a great new restaurant in the area! Beautiful decor! Excellent for conversation- how smart of them to consider that diners want to talk to their dinner companions! And the food came out piping hot and was delicious! Loved the lobster crepes, butternut squash soup and roast chicken. I’ll be going back to try more! The owners are super nice and very gracious too! A gem of a place!! Highly recommend!

Fantastic brand-new high-end restaurant. If they're this good in only their second week open, the sky is the limit. The space is beautiful, food was delicious and service was professional and attentive. I loved the lobster crepe appetizer and scallop entree.

The food was fenomenal. Please try the beet salad and the chicken. Also had the octopus and the halibut which were amazing! The tart tartin and the lemon pie are outstanding.

Outstanding service and dishes. Hard to decide what to order, since everything seems delicious! The cheeses and desserts are exquisite and sophisticated, yet simple. Definitely a place to treat yourself.
