Bill's Restaurant & Bar - Guildford
Pan Fried Sea Bass
with an avocado, cherry tomato & caper salsa & herb rösti
with a green leaf and mixed seed salad & toasted focaccia
Buttermilk Chicken Burger
Crumbed chicken breast, creamy coleslaw, chipotle mayonnaise, tomato, sesame bun & rosemary salted fries
Starter of tuna tartar was great. Main of chicken Caesar salad was awful. Dry chicken and leaves with barely any sauce.
I booked a table for myself and my partner for 8:30pm on Friday 18th December at Bill’s in Guilford town centre. I had decided to book after seeing the Burger Deal advertised on your website (£9.95 for a burger and a glass of wine I believe) and having heard excellent reviews. However, on arrival we were informed the deal was not running that evening. We were disappointed but continued to order from the main menu instead. We ordered two drinks, the Bills sharing platter and two burgers. We waiting quite a long time for the drinks, but understood the staff were busy and didn’t mind. However, we were then informed that the calamari had run out, and we had to accept a substitute on the sharing platter. In addition, the restaurant had run out of chips, and we had to substitute these as well. We received the sharing platter and were told plates would be brought over, but we never received these. We waited over an hour for our main course to arrive, and still hadn’t received these as last orders were being taken just before 10pm. When the burgers eventually arrived, the burgers were stone cold and didn’t resemble restaurant quality whatsoever. We informed the staff of these issues, and decided to leave the burgers. We paid for the drinks and sharing platter, and left without a main course. We completely understood that the restaurant was busy, and the hospitality industry has faced pressures in respect of Covid-19, however, our experience was extremely poor, and to have waited over an hour for a meal that was stone cold and completely unsatisfactory, was very disappointing. Bill’s in Guilford had been highly recommended to us, but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had in years.
Starters were nice but that’s about it. Burgers small and over cooked. Chips were stodgy and flavourless. Staff said the rights things but clearly couldn’t give a dam
Booked this very last minute as Tier restrictions suddenly came in. Lovely staff and good ambience but I'm afraid the food was very average to poor (especially the truly horrible Christmas Tree dessert which was inedible - what a terrible concept!) The veggie burger with avocado and halloumi that both me and my daughter had was also pretty poor - the avocado was missing and the halloumi uncooked and in huge chunks! My husband and son's meat burgers were good however and overall we enjoyed our evening despite the failings. I've eaten in a lot of Bill's restaurants and this was the worst experience by far but I think it was probably at least part, down to the exceptionally challenging situation and the fact stock levels must have been low to prepare for another lockdown closure. I have every sympathy with these very difficult circumstances and will continue to eat at Bill's when things allow it.
Disppointed by the very slow service this time. Great food but delayed service..
Our trip to Bills was good. There where positives and negatives though. We really enjoyed the fact that the restaurant had thought about social distancing - putting up glass seperaters is very important. I also liked the fact that the restaurant had been updated and modernised. The table and chairs were very nice. The service was decent, but there was one man who we thought could have properly worn his mask when around customers and he could have been more polite. The lack of food did put my review score down. When we got there, we were told that many items were out of stock and unavailable. I do however understand this as we were going into lockdown the next day. Finally, I feel the staff and Waitreses could have been more professional around the restaurant. We saw a few inappropriate things by the bar and kitchen areas. Hopefully though, it will improve! Thank you. It was a very average and slightly overpriced meal out. 😜👍
Food and service good, generous portions. The close seating made me feel nervous, especially at a restaurant that was going to be under Tier 3 restrictions the next day. There were also groups of people that seemed to be groups of friends, not people in the same household, which worried me as well. I doubt if I will be eating there until the pandemic is over.
Amazing food and really good costumer service.....
We were given off cream but the service was good just a shame the food didn’t do us well
Always Great! Always a good experience, always enjoy myself! Thanks Bill's
Lovely staff and atmosphere, we felt very welcome ✨💕
Excellent service, fantastic food and great, quiet (due to covid restrictions) atmosphere! Well done
As often happen in Bills all the food is not piping hot. Chips hot, fish finger sandwich warm.
The manageress was lovely and very efficient. All the staff performed their jobs very well and were friendly. The food was perfect we had Sunday dinner and breakfast on Monday morning as we were staying at the hotel upstairs. We would highly recommend. Thanks Richard & LOIC
A lovely evening out with my family. Great good and really friendly staff . Only criticism is that the service was a bit slow , but it was busy do we totally understand .
I felt some of the tables were a little too close to each other but the staff were masked and were respectful of space and didn’t stand too near when talking orders or serving food.
Service good and we didn’t feel pressured to vacate our table after 1.5 hours. Not as busy as I expected for a Saturday night in December.
Fantastic service and food! Will definitely recommend this amazing food place to my friends!
Starters came out with mains seemed a bit rushed. Burgers burnt on outside
We were put in the very cold, very unfestive basement room. I understand that you need to space customers apart but you could have at least turned the heating on and put a few twinkly lights out. It was dark and gloomy and we couldn't wait to leave. We had to wait ages for our food, and were brought the wrong drink for our daughter. My coffee was lukewarm so took second to drink. The waiter only asked my husband (who he referred to as 'papa') if he enjoyed his meal. It was meant to be a birthday lunch with our daughter. We won't be back to the Guildford branch. The food was nice and hot when it eventually arrived.
Obviously had to book ..... greeted warmly and taken to the table... friendly staff ... food was tasty and came quickly...altogether a nice eating experience...
Felt safe and looked after from start to finish. The host was exceptional as was our waiter . The atmosphere was warm and inviting a welcomed 90 minute break from the pandemic .
Food was good I know we are living in testing times but after waiting 40 minutes to be served and then long wait for food not good I had to ask three times for a glass of water
Won’t be visiting any time soon !!
Breakfast was delicious and fresh. Coffee very hot as requested. Staff very friendly and will definitely visit again
Lovely helpful staff who complied with covid rules. Too delicious and very good value.
Had lovely steak and fries and chicken with mushrooms. Dessert was to die for, Christmas 🎄.
As always, an enjoyable meal at Bills. We did wait a while for our coffee though.
I like Bill although l don't come very often. I've been there few years ago to eat but go there more for afternoon coffee and cake. We ordered the Classic burger from menu. The portions were kids size as well as the starter platters to share. Portions don't meet the value. Very sorry to say that l was disappointed. Burgers were burnt and shrank, were giving that slight charcoal taste. Teasing size french fries... I come from restaurant business family background and do eat food in different restaurants so l have a bit of knowledge about the size and quality.
£15 for a burger and fries hmmm... ok. The price is on the menu but not mentioning the portion. Surprise! Austerity day!
Would l come again? Perhaps. Nice staff and ambiance but perhaps for an afternoon coffee and cake hoping they are still the same tasty as l remember.
So glad we booked a table for lunch as people were being turned away.
Service & food were lovely and felt very safe. Hand sanitizer on the table and masks worn by staff.
Will definitely be back
Simple food, slow service, tables too close, go elsewhere.
Nice ambience, and service was good, but let down by the food. I had the beetroot wellington, which was small, and other than the wellington, the rest of food (cabbage and puree) was cold, and had to ask for it to be heated up. Husband's burger was black underneath, and kid's macaroni dry. Still, the small main course meant I ordered a pudding, as I was still hungry! Sorry, I won't be returning in a rush.
Waited long time for food 45 mins ,had keep asking for water and also food wasnt hot .we taken kids as a treat .56.00 alot money for a breakfast .not impressed at all
It was very cold in the restaurant.
Me and my partner have to wear jackets during our breakfast.
Very disappointing. Sat downstairs which was really cold. Service so slow - almost an hours wait for Avacado on toast and egg on toast, both of which were dry and cold. First cup of coffee in smallest glass (Latte !), barely luke warm. Had to order second as we waited so long for food. £38 not well spent
Food was great! HOWEVER, service was not good. Sauces and another coffee was requested when food arrived, but neither came. Our waitress finally came back to ask how food was abs I asked for sauces and another coffee. Waitress said something like ‘I don’t bring the coffee’. I am not sure why she wouldn’t just say she would check! Reply was not nice. Dining area where we sat was cold even after having been open for a couple of hours. Hmpf...
the waiter we had was the most patient amazing person ever. i wish i got his name.
We could not wait to visit Bill’s after lockdown ended and we were not disappointed! Everything was exceptional as usual and the staff were fantastic. We asked for a different table on entry and the hostess was more than happy to oblige. The food was cooked to perfection and all virus guidelines were followed to the letter including masks on entry and travel to the bathroom for every customer and temperature checks at the door. Never disappointed when visiting!
Food mediocre and overpriced.
Food delicious, service friendly and helpful. A definite revisit is on the cards
Had to wait even though booked and it was very cold as the door was open a lot. One male staff member was a bit impatient and rude when we asked for more time and seemed a unfriendly , though it was very busy but other staff seemed okay. Food was very good but other branches we have visited have been better.
My only criticism is that the macaroni cheese was not very hot. I didn’t mention because then I would have been out of sync eating with my friend. Just a tip.
