Billie H. Ratings and Reviews
Great food, a little pricey, interesting wines, a bit dark and noisy. Instead of serving us oysters which they decided were not perfect, they told us and asked us to choose something else. The kingfish carpaccio replacement was very tasty, but for all that effort with the dish there was not much fish so some of the tasty accompaniment was wasted.
Food was good but not amazing and over priced for what you get. For example, Fremantle sardines (it's plural) on sprouted grain loaf was $17, which is fine but it was one fillet which we had to fight over. More like loaf with a fish that swam by. $19 for mushrooms. I shouldn't have been surprised Perth tapas menus always gouge your wallet. A very esoteric wine list — the Italian Pinot Nero was very good.
The food was great - tasty, refreshing and with excellent flavours. The service was attentive. The wine list was extensive but extremely expensive. The number of Western Australian wines seemed limited but also expensive.
The music was too loud. Our two teenage guests volunteered this comment without prompting.
Billie H offers a range of share plates (or keep to yourself plates) with something for all tastes. All the meals were of a high standard. in particular the carrots and lentils were a standout as was the pork belly. Dessert selection was good too -loved the apple sorbet with white chocolate. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Wine list is impressive with a reasonable number by the glass. Classy ambiance at a reasonable price. Good spot for a date or for a group dinner.
Don't come to Claremont too often, particularly on a Monday night, but had to run an errand from Highgate so popped into Billie H while in the area.
Wine list terrific. Some international beauties there you'd struggle to find elsewhere. Hadn't done the share plate thing for a while, but BH nails it. Three plates served two of us easily - lamb, beetroot salad and corned beef. In fact, the lamb and salad probably would have done us. Refreshing to see a dessert list with some thought put into it too.
Won't be the last time we take to a trip to Claremont to eat here.
A really great evening, excellent food, and whilst service was not perfect, the errors were remedied generously and in good spirit.
It was my husband's birthday and when the dessert finally came, there was a sparkler. Perfect. Have already told our friends and we will be back.
You certainly deserve the accolades by John Lethlean.
Sardines on sprouted grain bread were a stand-out, as was the citrus cake with cardamom yogurt. I was looking forward to plump Tasmanian oysters but happy to settle for NSW oysters with a grapefruit and orange blossom granita. The ambiance was good, however, the tables were close together and we were frequently jostled by the wait staff at the adjacent table.
