Enjoyed the meal, wait staff was very good,
and the room was quiet so that conversation was possible (a rare experience these days in Los Angeles). Portions are ample but not ridiculously large.
Will definitely make another reservation the next time we are attending an Ace Hotel event.
All staff were congenial. Food was excellent! We decided at dessert to go outside. Staff were very obliging.
Thanks so much for the kind review Colleen. Hope to see you again soon! Best, Brett General Manager
Service was not good. Had to ask for everything sometimes twice !
I'm terribly sorry to here that your service wasn't up to par on your recent visit. We'd love the opportunity to show you a better experience. I'll send you my contact information privately to hopefully continue the conversation. Best, Brett General Manager
If you are looking for a chill, hip and memorable Sunday brunch in DTLA, Best Girl is the place for you. We thought the food was very good, the atmosphere was just right, and the service was fantastic. Prices are on the higher side - but this is not surprising given that it's in DTLA, in an historic building, and attached to a trendy hotel. Know that going in and enjoy the experience!
The host greeted us warmly and sat us immediately along the window. I liked the view of the city & café tables and could see sitting outside sometime. Inside, I appreciated the historic details w/ a modern twist. Activity bustled around us, but we had enough space and were not crowded on top of the other patrons.
Our waitress arrived quickly and was very friendly, professional, and helpful. It seemed like she genuinely wanted us to make the best choice for us and made recommendations without any pressure. We both got seasonal fall lattes; she helped me order mine with less sweetness. They were very good - the milk was warm and even and was infused with flavor without being syrupy or cloying.
For food, my husband ordered the potato latke. I think it was just a single latke (hence my comment that it's a bit pricey) but the flavor was incredible and it was actually quite filling. If you like something savory, this dish is for you! I went for the two ricotta pancakes and liked that they were fluffy on the outside and a bit dense and gooey (from the ricotta) on the inside. They were perfectly baked and not overdone at all. Also love that the compote was a bit tart and not overly sweet. I also ordered a side of bacon on the waitress's recommendation and I am so glad I did! This was some of the best bacon I'd ever had.
Overall we were very pleased with our experience at Best Girl. It was a great start to our day in DTLA and a great brunch to fill us up before our matinee at the Music Center a few hours later. We'd definitely come again if we were in the area!
Hi Melissa, Thank you so much for the kind words. We're so pleased to hear that you enjoyed yourself. Please don't hesitate to reach out next time you're in, I'd love for myself or another one of our managers to say hello! Cheers, Brett General Manager
The ambiance and staff are the best part of this restaurant next to the 1927 Ace Theater. The food was good but overpriced. We loved the Little Gem and chicory salad, a deconstructed melange of pumpkin seeds, lettuces some summer vegetables and creamy dressing, big enough to share. He had the gnocchi made with ricotta and though it tasted amazing, all soft and pillowy, it didn’t feel cooked. Maybe that was the way it was supposed to be? I had a housemade buccatini with clams, which tasted subtly like the ocean. The highlight was the dessert: Bardstown Pudding, a bourbon-scented sticky toffee pudding, with crème fraîche ice cream and blackberry compote on the side. The best!
It was a happening place, by the way, with outdoor seating, a full bar, a varied clientele and good food. Just check out the menu so you don’t get sticker shock when the bill comes.
Hi Elaine, So glad to hear that you enjoyed everything. The gnocchi is definitely intended to be super light and melt in your mouth! Hope you liked it. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you're in the area again, we'd love to say hi. Best, Brett General Manager
This was our first time at Best Girl. I'm still thinking about the Gnocchi and the Burrata/Tomato starter. Food was heavenly. Great service. Fun vibe. Our only regret is that we didn't have time for dessert bc we were heading to the Music Center. Will definitely be back!
Hi Cindy, Thanks so much for the kind words! So glad to hear you enjoyed everything. Please let us know if you're back in the area at some point, the desserts are definitely worth tasting! Best, Brett General Manager
Yellowtail tartare was outstanding, we';re looking forward to the meal. Hamburgers come. Great ingredients, cooked perfectly, ruined by WAY TOO MUCH SALT! What is up with that! I had to take a drink of water after every bite to get the salt out of my mouth. Salt can improve any dish, but not a ton! The desert was almost ruined by a too sweet sauce (supposed to be toffee/brandy, but mostly just horribly cloyingly sweet), but luckily I could scrape off the sauce. No way to save the burgers.
I felt bad for the chef, he'd come up with great dishes, then the cooks ruined them.
p.s. The service was great!
Hi Thomas, Thanks for the review. I'm sorry to hear that some of the dishes weren't prepared to your liking. Hopefully you were able to notify the staff so that they could re-prepare them for you. I can't speak specifically to your burger, but I do believe it's an isolated incident. I hope you'll give us another shot to show you a better experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. Best, Brett General Manager
The location and ambiance were very good and the service was 5 star, but I expected the food to be more creative, tasty and reflective of an award winning Chef. The coordination of the support staff and the server needs to improve so everything doesn’t come out at the same time. The roasted corn was not very sweet and the ribeye wasn’t right off the grill. The strawberry sorbet was quite tasty.
Hi Paul, Thank you for the review. Sounds like we didn't live up to your expectations which I'm very sorry to hear. I'd love the opportunity to show you a better experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out directly to me if you're in the area again. Best, Brett General Manager
A birthday celebration at Best Girl was wonderful and festive. A restaurant where you can hear one another speak is important to me. Love the food and drink. Will definitely reserve a table again.
Thanks so much for the kind words, and for choosing to celebrate with us! We know there are tons of restaurants you could pick from and we're flattered you dined with us. Hope to see you soon! Cheers, Brett General Manager
This was a great restaurant with good food and service!
Thanks so much! Hope to see you again soon! Cheers, Brett General Manager
Walked away disappointed. Once we arrived we asked to be seated by the window, which could have made the atmosphere a little more inviting; we were told they had a big party coming and we could not sit there and we were never asked if we'd like to sit outside. A big party never arrived and they sat 2 ppl in the spot we requested. There were 4 in our party, 2 in our party were out-of-towners. Best Girl is okay and the food is fine, but I was I hoping for more. My Tonnarelli A Cacio E Pepe was excessively al dente I did not enjoy it. Unfortunately, I will not go back and will not recommend this restaurant, which is unfortunate because our server was very good.
Hi Irene, I've already messaged you on another platform, but I'll once again issue my apologies here. As mentioned the party that we were holding the table for showed up late for their reservation and dropped down in size significantly. My sincere apologies, had we known, we would've given you that table. We'd really love to have you back in at some point to show you a better experience. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly at any point Best, Brett General Manager
Had a great time, I went there on a date and was able to get more than we could eat and a bottle of wine for around $120. Would recommend as an impressive, yet affordable date spot.
Hi John, Thanks so much for the kind words! So glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves. Sounds like you were able to take advantage of our 20% wine bottles on Wednesday promotion. We also do free corkage on Mondays if you've got a special bottle kicking around you want to enjoy. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Brett General Manager
Service is lackluster
Sorry to hear this. If there's something specific that you felt we could do better I'd love to hear. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at any point to discuss further.
Bummer that the coffee machine was out of service. The rest was excellent!
Hi there, So sorry that we were working on the espresso machine while you were here. Next time you're in the area let me know and you've got a coffee on me! Cheers, Brett General Manager
Our waiter...I think Armando...was VERY nice with a great personality. But he was sent on break and another young man who was very nice helped us until Armando returned. Thank goodness the waiters were so pleasant. We had to ask 3 times to get our drink order right and complete. For the most part the food was just ok....the burger had to be sent back, the patty was so thin and not much flavor, we reordered the patty melt... one person in our party of 8 never received her chopped salad and 15minutes after everyone else was served she was brought a salad that tasted like someone SPILLED the salt shaker in it. 2 other guests shared a chopped and it was delicious, but for some reason the third one was barely chopped and HORRIBLE. Armando's assistance was very nice, returned it, and brought her another which was much better. So food was just so-so....very friendly staff but for the most part unorganized and part of that confusion seemed to come from the kitchen. I rarely complain and always compliment....had it been someone else I'm guessing they might have put up quite the fuss!
Hi there, Thanks so much for the review. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with our staff but sorry to hear that some of the dishes were off. It sounds like we were able to resolve pretty much everything in the end. And the burger is definitely meant to be thin, but certainly shouldn't be flavorless. Regardless, we'd love to have you back in a some point and we'll make sure that everything is top notch. Please don't hesitate to message me directly at any point Brett General Manager
Wow!! Great foodie experience, but also perfect for everyday.
Thanks so much! Glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself. Hope to see you back soon. Cheers, Brett General Manager
Eclectic for sure. The food was awesome. Had the chicken like I’ve never had before. Great people watching and great atmosphere. A hamburger with Emu and chicken with a salad that was full of things I’ve never had before. A unique experience for someone looking for a cool hang out for the LA nightlife downtown.
Thanks so much for the kind review. So glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you're back in the area. Best, Brett General Manager
We arrived 10 minutes early but they made us wait until our reservation time, even though there were 4 open tables. They turned down a few people in the meantime.... We finally got seated, then the waiter took forever to come to take our orders. Good thing we ordered drinks from the bar. The gnocchi and the calamari were excellent, but the gnocchi already came with parmesan cheese on top. I wouldn't have taken it, if given the option if offered by the server. The side order of crispy creamer potatoes are like country potatoes. We thought it would be a mashed potato with a crispy crust. So, it is hit and miss. And oh, about the empty tables, there were still 2 empty by the time we finished dinner.
Hi Eric, Thanks for the review. Sounds like you were here on a busy theatre night for us. While I understand that there may have been empty tables when you arrived, there may have been other reservations for an earlier time that we were waiting for. Additionally, to try and provide the best service for everyone, we space out the seating in the restaurant. I'll send you a note privately now with some more info; hopefully you'll give us another shot soon. Best, Brett General Manager
With all that kitchen fire power I would expect better.
Thanks for the review. If there's anything specific that you think we can do better please don't hesitate to reach out. We'd love to have you back in at some point and make sure that everything is 100% Best, Brett General Manager
BestGirl is such a neat place to enjoy a drink or full dinner and dessert. The menu is well rounded and the food quality superb! Prices are reasonable and the corkage fee is as well. I will definitely be returning!
Thank you! So glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. And if you're a wine drinker, be sure to come by on Monday for free corkage or Wednesdays for 20% off bottles on our list! Feel free to reach out if there's anything I can help with. Cheers, Brett General Manager
Great staff. Quiet sunday afternoon.
We both had burgers that were a little salty but that wouldn’t stop me returning.
Food was awesome. Service was great and the location is awesome. Can’t beat downtown.
Hi Isaac, Thanks so much for your review! So glad to hear you enjoyed everything. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Brett General Manager
Amando is an excellent server guiding us through the dishes. The mexican corn should have the cheese on the side. the corn was excellent but the cheese took away from the sweetness. the crabcake and yellow tail ceviche were excellent. The lumache alla norma was very tasty but the pasta could have been cooked just a tad more. the pacific rockfish was excellent
Hi Bill, Thanks so much for the kind words and constructive feedback. And we agree, Armando is awesome! Hope to see you again soon. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything we can help with in the future. Cheers, Brett General Manager
Our server was warm and welcoming and knew his wines well and helped suggest menu options that our palates would love. Some of the best gnocchi I’ve ever had in my life.
Hi Adrienne, Thank you so much for the kind words! This puts a smile on our faces. Hope to see you back soon. If you're into wine be sure to come by on Wednesday for 20% off bottles or Monday for free corkage. Best, Brett General Manager
Food and service was VERY good. Just didn’t “wow” me.
Great food and vibes. Our server was really sweet. Ask them about the secret menu!
Hi Mindy, Thanks for the great review! I hear you had the special pancakes (shhhhh). Hope to see you again soon! Best, Brett General Manager
We got there about 30 minutes early for our reservation and they were able to accomodate us. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Loved the "Old LA" vibe! The food was wonderful as were the cocktails!
Hi Beth, Thanks so much for the kind review. Hope to see you again soon. And if you like the Old LA vibe, you've definitely got to catch a show at our theatre next door! Cheers, Brett General Manager
We went before our movie at the Ace Theatre and after (for dessert). It was crowded both times (had a reservation for dinner) and very energetic with a really good vibe and great service. We had been to it late (9ish?) on a Tuesday night and I think we were about the only people there so it was great to see it hustling. (we're from the OC so don't get up to DTLA that often) The food was delish. We had the yellow tail app, the Little Gems salad, the Jidori Chicken (very good), and the gnocchi. All were scrumptious. For dessert, I had the chocolate spiced pot de creme and it was perfectly spiced and very creamy - wonderful!
Thanks so much for the kind words! So glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself, and hopefully had a great time at the show as well! Don't hesitate to reach out next time you're up our way, we'd love to say hi! Cheers, Brett General Manager
Very limited menu btwn lunch and dinner times. I had not know that.
Hi Stephen, Sorry we didn't have what you were looking for. Our kitchen, like most, needs time to clean and reset before rolling into dinner. Sometimes the chefs are still able to accommodate items from the brunch/lunch menus after 3, I'd just check with your server if you're in at that time again. Hopefully you'll come back and try one of our regular meal periods again soon! Let me know if there's anything I can help with. Cheers, Brett General Manager
My partner and I went to see a show in the Ace Theatre, so this was a natural choice. The restaurant space was lovely, and really captured the old-Hollywood look that is so fun in these old theaters. The food was fantastic -- it's not cheap, but you're not going there for an inexpensive meal. As a special-occasion restaurant, this was perfect. If you're seeing a show nearby, I would highly recommend it.
Hi Joe, Thanks so much for the review! So glad to here that you enjoyed yourselves, and hopefully had fun at the show as well. Hope to see you back soon. Cheers, Brett General Manager
"Energetic" is being generous when describing the noise levels in this restaurant. Some efforts to figure out a damper situation in there should be made. We could barely hold a conversation at the dinner table because it was so loud in there, which was disappointing as we were there for a special occasion.
Service overall is very good for the restaurant. Our food was timed well, tasted great and was ultimately very satisfying although it would have been nice to know about the massive portions of the Pork Chop and also Steakfrites mains. A lot of food went to waste and we could have shared a main and had a few shared plates to offset this. I know the resto wants a higher per person item check but honestly, it was really disheartening to have to literally each throw away half our meals. We were sharing an Anniversary dinner at the restaurant and although the food was delicious, and the cocktails also wonderful and interesting, we did not receive our 10% off dining as guests of the hotel, and didn't have time to pursue it because we were trying to get to our show (Hannah Gadsby) at the ACE Hotel Theater.
Not sure if the coffee bar adjacent is part of the Best Girl family or not, but if it is, some efforts for more genial morning staff would be nice. Grumpy coffee barista at the register the next morning was a bummer.
Overall B+ rating. Kitchen staff are doing a great job, but the overall experience was a B+. Plan to spend around $200 for two adults who each have two adult beverages. We skipped dessert due to the time constraints. Would definitely return.
The food was just poorly cooked. I got steak frites, and the steak looked like it was boiled. It made me sick. But the good thing is that the server was great, and she took it off the bill with no problems. It was just a disappointing experience.
3 out of 4 entrees were fantastic, but the fourth was a pork Milanese without the sauce. Food delivery was erratic with a significant delay between the two appetizers and one salad was delivered about 10 minutes before the others. Manager did take the pork entree off of our bill.
Their smallish menu became downright meager since they didn't have 4 of the dishes available for us to choose from the night that we were there. The portions matched the menu in how small they were. Thankfully, we had some cold pizza available up in our room. Our server was great, so kudos to her.
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience recently. I believe that the night that you dined with us, we did have a few items that were off the menu but we had some specials in their place. We're transitioning into our summer menu right now. I'm going to send you my contact info privately, hopefully we can continue the dialogue and maybe have you back in at some point to give us another shot. Best, Brett General Manager
Sunday evening excellent time. $ 1 oysters a real treat. Burger was excellent...maybe a little thin...might have double next time. Sauce good and fries exceptional. Service from Michael excellent. He was able to advise regarding drinks and food. Brett very nice. He spent time and was very informative.
Even the parking attendants later in the evening were very nice and parking fee reasonsable.
Hi Dr. Revenue, Thank you very much for the kind words. It was very nice chatting with you. Hope to see you again soon! Best, Brett General Manager
Great service from our waiter....offered up suggestions and made dining their a little extra special!
Hi Sharon, Thanks for the kind words. So glad to hear you enjoyed everything. Hope to see you again soon! Best, Brett General Manager
Hands down one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Our waitress was rude and unhelpful. We were a group of 5 and ordered cocktails, and a bunch of food to share. The oysters we ordered were all old/had gone bad and sandy and we didn't finish them. The basked oysters were equally inedible. The gnocchi was severely overcooked and the steak was not prepared as ordered. The pork was the only really edible dish we had. Overall a HUGE disappointment.
However the decor is lovely.
Hi there, I'm deeply disappointed to hear that you had such a negative experience at our restaurant recently. I would like to get to the bottom of these issues. I'm going to send you my contact information privately so that we can discuss further. I hope that you'll give us another shot once we've figured out where these issues are coming from. Best, Brett General Manager
Great resturant! Went there to celebrate a new job and they gave my husband and I free drinks to congratulate us. Had snap pea salad and steak frites, both were amazing. 10/10 would recommend!
Hi Claire, Thanks so much for the kind words and congratulations to your husband! Hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Brett General Manager
The food was awesome, and service was prompt and excellent! Loved the ambience!
Hi Nancy, Thanks so much for the kind words. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Brett General Manager
Really not impressed. We had reservations for weeks, And we were seated at the worst table possible. Decent cocktails. The food was just not very good. Starting with $8 for bread and butter and they brought out burnt toast. We sent it back and it was replaced, but it had a freezer burned taste to it, which may be why they burned it in the first place. Steak frites was cooked correctly, but it didn’t taste like prime. Crab cake was a bit mushy, and the baked clams just tasted like bacon. Our server, when we saw her was lacking. Asked about the specials and she literally said “a salmon special.”
Hi Megan, I'm very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience on Friday. There are definitely a few things here that aren't up to our standard and I apologize for that. I'd love to chat with you and hopefully have you back in to experience us in a better light. I'm sending you my contact information now. Best, Brett General Manager
