From the stunning stone Cellar Door, to the rustic yet elegant Book Barn housing our restaurant and bookshop, we invite you to experience the beauty and first-class hospitality of Bendooley Estate.
This is still my favorite place to bring visiting friends to. Everything about Bendooley’s is a delight.....the food, the service, the ambience, the books, the wine and that crackling fireplace.
Very disappointed in a menu that has not changed since we last went here for lunch. The pizza was soggy and not at all how a wood fired authentic pizza should be. This was our anniversary celebration and I was very disappointed.
Bendooley Estate remains a happy place for us - our daughter got married there - and we keep remembering that event all the time!
Anyway the service last Tuesday was poor - the waiter and the waitresses were not interested - just kept doing their “job” - no smile - no eye contact - even had to wave several minutes to just get some pepper on the table - anyway we will keep on visiting the place - the food was excellent - but let’s make service better for such an iconic venue in the highlands
The ambience, the food, the service, the fire place, it was absolutely amazing, all of it
It was perfect in every way!
Loved every bit of my day there and already planning my next visit. Highly recommended.
We love returning to Bendooley Estate, the venue we chose for our wedding three years ago. The food, service and ambient just never disappoints. It was another amazing experience. Returning to Bendooley Estate has become a tradition for our family, a great location to celebrate birthdays, Mothers Day and of course our anniversary. I cannot praise this venue enough, it is outstandingly beautiful. Anne
Beautiful restaurant with fireplace surrounded by books. Food was delicious however the service is slow and the waitress was forgetful.
The place itself was really nice and The staff were good however we were placed into a tight fit corner in the walkway for some reason, even though we booked plenty of time in advance and their were lots of spare tables, our table was not even big enough to fit our meals and our drinks.
The waiter was very friendly and polite but the only one taking orders which made service quite slow.
Vegetables needed to be ordered as side dishes which makes the meals very expensive, this was not mentioned when our orders were taken, so received a plate of beef cheeks only for one of the meals.
We had a lovely meal again at Bendooley Estate for an early Mothers Day lunch. Food was amazing however it took way too long for our mains to come out. Also, we had booked an outside table but the weather had turned extremely cold & windy. There was no option to move inside. Outdoor seating needs an option to be able to move inside if the weather turns nasty especially with 2 young children under 4.
We had a table near the door so I was a little cold with the draft. I love going to Bendooley but I think the menu needs to change now and again.
Great food and wine, friendly staff.
Loved having lunch at Bendooley. Service was friendly & excellent thanks to Steve. Food lovely & ambience superb as always.
A lovely place for lunch. The setting is great and the food is amazing.
We reserved an outdoor table and got bumped up to an indoor table when we arrived as we got there early that was great. Eva was very nice and gave our daughter a colouring in pack.
The service started well as we were one of the first people to sit down for lunch service and then however became very slow waiting over an hour for our mains. As the restaurant filled up quickly there was not enough staff and so we constantly had to call waiters or get up if we needed something.
We also found that as we had a junior staff serving us no specials were explained but the table that arrived after us were given the opportunity to hear and order some of the specials.
We ordered apple juice and kids sundae with our daughters meal which we had to follow up 3 times eventually we only got the sundae no drink.
The entree beetroot burrata was lovely and fresh.
The beef cheeks was not what I expect from a premium restaurant it was mainly meat thick gravy instead of a nice ju reduction, hardly any potato purée or mushroom.
Overall quite disappointed since we spent over $250 for lunch and travelled from Sydney to have a day there.
Beautiful place, we will be back. We were there to celebrate our 5th year anniversary. We had a amazing day.
Beautiful location with delicious food and wine. On a sunny day you couldn’t ask for a better spot to have a fantastic relaxing lunch!
Unique ambience surrounded by vineyards on the outside and by books, new and old, on the inside, combined with good food, wine and service, makes Bendooley Estate a must-do dining experience.
Lovely food, lovely setting, however service was lacking. It was however a very busy lunchtime session - so will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Ambiance superb, service exceptional and food devine. Well worth a visit.
We have eaten here a few times and the food never dissapppints. Always an explosion of flavors no matter what dish we have tried. Cant fault the food.
The service this time round was disappointing. We booked a table outside on a perfect Autumn day, our table for 3 was put in a shady corner with a large noisy group blocking us in. We waited over 25min with no waiter acknowledging our table at all. Eventually my husband got up and told the host we were ready to order and that no staff had been to our table. We also asked to be moved to a table that just finished right next to the grass area and thankfully they did change us.
This really did save our afternoon, we were able to enjoy our lunch, hear our conversation all while our son played outside and had a fun time. The staff were all friendly, the initial service was just slow.
We regularly go to Bendooley but this lunch was the best I have enjoyed in a while. I liked the current menu options, and we got great service even though it was a public holiday. Our guests hadn’t been there before and sitting in the main dining room at a window table on a beautiful autumn day was delightful. Our lunch choices were interesting and tasty.
Lovely lunch in a wonderful outdoor setting. Excellent service, very good food and nice wine offerings.
Browse the book shop. Well worth a visit.
This would have to be the most beautiful setting for a winery, with excellent food and wine. Highly recommended.
Great spot for a casual lunch however the food and kitchen needs to lift its game: serving a main which is not hot doesn't go down well. Please bring out all dishes hot - I suspect my beef cheeks were pre-prepared as all the pasta dishes were steaming hot. My husband's pizza was cold too. If our dishes (as hosts for the day) were hot then I would have given 5/5 for everything.
The weather was perfect, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was just amazing. Easy drive from Sydney and just a wonderful spot for lunch on a Sunday. I will be back.
Beautiful venue for a big celebration, dinner for 2 or lunch with the girls- they cater for all. Fantastic customer service and a winning location - worth the 3 hour drive from Canberra.
Very pleasant lunch. Main courses came in a good time. Desserts were a little slow probably because by that time it was full so undoubtedly the kitchen was very busy. Overall, a very pleasant experience. About 95mins from start to finish. Yes, we will come again.
Always love my time at Bendooley. I was especially impressed with watching the dining area being set up for a wedding. How truly beautiful. I would love to have a picture to show my Son.
Absolutely superb dining experience. We sat outside on a perfect autumn day. The food and service were impeccable!
The food was delicious but we experienced quite poor service. We waited 30 minutes for anyone to take our order. The drinks arrived without glasses, the food arrived and we had no cutlery! The staff were very pleasant though.
Food was spectacular, but not receiving mains until 1.5 hrs after being seated was not good. Drinks were also forgotten. Entrees were out and we still didn't have the first lot of drinks. We never ended up ordering dessert due to the wait and also missed going to the cellar due to being their for too long and having very restless adults and children in our party who by the end of lunch just wanted to go home. Granted it was busy and a weekend, but we would have spend a lot more if the service wasn't so slow. Would recommend and eat there again, but probably during the week or having lunch at say 3pm.
Food was great my barramundi beautifully cooked and fresh and house wines great.
I would say however to go early as when full it can be noisy especially on weekends. Waiters all nice young people. Bought load of books too as some great specials.
Great place for lunch, we stopped here on a road trip. Dined outside, beautiful setting, nice food and good service.
The food was fabulous! We fell in love with the fireplace
My sisters and I were staying on site at one of the beautifully appointed cottages. We had the fish special (barramundi with pumpkin and quinoa) and it was delicious - perfectly cooked flesh with crisp skin and smooth pumpkin puree. The dessert list was eclectic - my sisters shared the samosas and I ordered the spiced apple, licorice icecream and yoghurt. Whilst the plating of my dessert was a surprise, I quickly flipped it over and enjoyed the apple and icecream. We shared a bottle of the Croser sparkling rose and it was delightful. We finished our visit with some wine tasting and purchased some beautiful books. Highly recommended.
Fantastic food in a beautiful location. My favourite place.
It seems to me that the management of Bendooley restaurant are now trying to squeeze far too many people into each service. It used to be our favourite place to have lunch in the Highlands, however the past 3 times we have visited we have left feeling so disappointed. Service is so lacking - sloppy wine pouring by a waitress who clearly didn’t want to be at work that day, no attention to our table with us having to find wait staff, excessively long waits between ordering and receiving meals, having to move tables and chairs around ourselves as wait staff were supposedly too busy to help, wait staff had a serious lack of knowledge about the menu, wait staff with no common sense delivering kids ice creams to the adults at the table, having to collect cutlery and napkins ourselves, having to try to squeeze far too many people on to a table set up, having to find staff to order more wine - having to pour the wine ourselves at all times...blah blah blah. We have vowed never to return on a weekend when there are just too many customers for the restaurant to deal with. We are so disappointed as the food is always sensational. Please take these reviews on board and either provide more staff who are well trained - or reduce the sittings for each lunch service so that the staff can cope.
Delicious food with good portion size and price. Wine selection was good and staff were attentive and polite.
Wonderful to find a restaurant where you can talk and enjoy great food in a fascinating environment of books, paintings and historic maps. Service most helpful, especially with a small child and non-intrusive. Wines were perfect too
I have always enjoyed the restaurant. This time I brought long time friends from Sydney . We all enjoyed our meal and day.
