Great food but expensive, but that was expected. It’s a fine eating establishment with a well deserved reputation for great food. If you are looking for a place for special occasions and celebrations, Benares fits the bill to a tee.

Only ask...the cocktails could do with a bit more of a kick 🙂

Lovely food. Poor wine pairing. Dark and depressing atmosphere. Fittings felt a little cheap for a premium restaurant. Service not great. No intro to your wines. Not attentive. Really disappointed with the experience. At £90 each for lunch i expect more.

Very disappointed with the whole experience. We waited 45 minutes before we ordered our food and it wasn’t busy. My wife ordered a drink and it didn’t arrive for an hour and that was after reminding the waiter. The food came before her drink ! Food was good but very limited on the set menu. Wine was extortionate, cheapest was £38.00 a bottle of wine, first bottle came up unchilled . We had to send it back. All the side dishes were extra cost even rice. Bit of a rip off and very average.

Tasting menu and prestige wine flight totally exceeded all expectations helped by a really understanding and helpful waiter and a suitably solicitous manager. Well done all involved and a special thanks to the chef and sommelier

Benares is absolutely amazing. We went for my grandmother's birthday and they brought a cake for her. The waiters are so good and very helpful. The food was outstanding!

It was my sons 16th so I made the restaurant aware that we’d like a good table. He and his sister’s first Michelin star experience. We were sat by the entrance of the kitchen (plenty of tables available which were more secluded and comfortable. Could hear dishes and cutlery clanging away during our dinner. V.loud group of men sat next to us which changed the atmosphere considerably. They were perfectly fine but when our bill for a modest meal is well over £300 for 4 this is unacceptable.
Seriously overpriced food for what it was.
Not a Michelin star dinner.
Strange service, had to ask for a glass of wine and irritatingly flagging down waiters. Some dishes were excellent but the food is so so creamy, buttery and very ‘heavy’ and I love decadent sumptuous curries. The interior is lovely but honestly if money is no matter the

I love Benares but the policy to let young girls in for drinks who are clearer worse for wear is nonsense. I do not go to Benares to listen to their particular brand of drunken rubbish. To be fair we were quickly seated away from them but it spoilt the ambience of our pre dinner drinks

Overall I was disappointed. This was our 2nd time at Benares and it is far short of the restaurant I visited when it was Atul Kotchar’s place. The restaurant looked and felt far more exclusive and luxurious then. Service was far better, the dining room looked more impressive and the whole experience was more special. Unfortunately it’s now just a ‘good’ Indian restaurant. The food was very good but the tasting menu wasn’t hugely impressive, again just good. Service was slow despite the restaurant not being busy really. Took nearly 45 mins before we got our food after first sitting down. Waiters weren’t very engaging and were all wearing cheap blue medical gloves, and the menu was a laminated A5 sheet with QR codes. I’ve been to at least 10 different places since the restrictions were eased in early May and Benares Is the only place I’ve been to that has a set up like this. I think we’ve passed all of that early pandemic stuff now and it hugely degraded the experience, totally unnecessary. I thought the dining room decor looked pretty basic compared to what it used to look and feel like. A real shame as this was one of my favourite restaurants following my first experience and unfortunately it’s just not the same place anymore.

The food was average at best. We have had better, more authentic, more creative, far more delicious Indian food in London and Greater London in places that are not even Michelin star rated. Benares makes Michelin star rating a bit doubtful to trust. The creativity or presentation was totally lacking. The flavours across our starters, main and dessert were all right; nothing special or worth going back or worth the cost by any means.
Service was friendly. A bit slow / slightly unattentive, but very friendly and hospitable.
Ambience was good, however all closed, no windows makes is a bit too stuffy and noisy.

First time but a great experience, and first meal out for almost a year. Great flavours which come through but you can still taste the basic elements. Wine pairing worked. At first, portions seem small, but that is deceptive: we were more than satisfied. Nice extra touches. We aim to go again, and will be recommending... Surprisingly there were few other diners (possibly half term and covid caution continuing?)

Served by attentive staff, and the tasting menu exquisite. Took a bit of time to order wine and no offer from a sommelier/waiter to provide recommendations. Pairing wine with Indian food can be a challenge. But all in all, a very enjoyable evening and will be going back.

This was a birthday treat for my husband and I have to say, we were both really disappointed. I had expected some exceptionally tasty Indian food. Instead, what we had was average, and certainly not Michelin standard.

We've been to Benares many times for birthday and anniversary meals and last night was our first high end meal post lockdown and obviouslywe were excited. Although the service was great, the meal wasn't up to its usual high standard. The waiter did allow us to order from the set menu as we turned up late and did provide halal options but the quality of the our main dishes were low. We ordered the butter chicken and sea bass coconut curry. Both were very rich and sickly to eat. We did raise this with the management team and they appreciated the feedback we provided. I'm not sure at this stage if we will return to Benares but we have very much enjoyed ourselves in the past.

Being michelin star restaurant, the food wasn’t as expected, especially paneer tikka masala, it tasted like panner dipped into some different gravy.

the only part we liked was appetizer.
