Drawing from Chef Christophe Poteaux's French heritage and Chef Michelle Poteaux's American roots, Bastille's cuisine focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, prepared from scratch. Items like Bastille's house-made ketchup, Shrimp beignets, French pimento cheese and Flatbread, to every entree and delectable dessert are carefully chosen to represent what is BEST about Bastille, Virginia and Contemporary French food.
Whether it is for drinks and nibbles after work or just a night when you don't want to cook for the family, the staff at Bastille welcomes you. Enjoy our casual atmosphere where locals and travelers love to relax with creative food, drink and to share a good laugh.
We went to Bastille after a long time and a move of the restaurant to a new location. The new place looks nice, but the food and service have deteriorated with time. The staff was friendly, but poorly trained. There was a long gap between being seated and being approached by our waiter. There were even longer gaps between one course being removed from our table and the next one arriving. We had to wait about 15 minutes from the time of our main course until our desert. I don't like being rushed during a meal, but this was the opposite extreme. We had to ask for bread and the staff was clearly unfamiliar with the wine list, telling us for example, that a bottle of wine we were interested in was a red, when it was a white. All dished arrived lukewarm, a sign that they had been sitting in the kitchen for too long a time before being brought to our table. The cassoulet was very salty. Portions were ample, but I would have preferred smaller portions of higher quality food served promptly.
Food was not as good as last time I went and service was a little slow. I did like the musical combo.
Fantastic meal! Enjoyed the wide selection of choices. Will be back to try other selections.
Food is unique and delicious. wonderful attentive aervice. Always a great experience.
Outstanding service, and ambiance only enhance the delectable that arrive at your table.
Love the happy hour wine too! I'll be back.
Wonderful experience! The staff made us feel like we were the most special people there. And the food was outstanding and the Prix Fixe is an excellent value! I look forward to dining with you again.
Bastille never disappoints us in any way. This dinner was to celebrate our grandson's 10th birthday, and they made him feel very special. It added to his experiences of "fine dining" which he is most definitely a fan of!
The first time I went to Bastille, I couldn't wait to get back. The second time was not as good as the first time. I'll go back a third time and hopefully I will be impressed again.
I would like to give them more stars but this is the second time at this place and both times we felt unwelcome, the first time we couldn't get a table and the lady at the entrance was absolutely rude. This time our friends got us a gift card so we decided to try it again. Well, our server was not friendly, she didn't bother to explain the menu at all.
The food was ok, I had steak and eggs; the potatoes and salad were bland, I also had the soup and it was great, the crepes dry and lumpy, not worth it at all. My husband's chicken paillard was excellent.
I wish their workers were much more welcoming kind, not acting as if we are lucky to be there.
Enjoyed the fix price brunch. Try the appetizer beignets.
I would come back. The service was a little slow and the grits seemed more like risotto but the chicken paillard was delicious and the mimosa were a great value.
Our server provided exceptional service and the lamb chop special was delicious!
Anniversary celebration (which we informed the restaurant of on Open Table). My wife ordered the salmon (based on how good it looked on a fellow diner’s plate). The salmon on the other diners plate literally covered 1/4 of the plate. The portion my wife received was smaller than the size of a square post-it note and not exceptionally thick. We remarked to the wait staff that the portion was extremely (ridiculously) small (particularly when compared to the large portion on the other diner’s plate). Wait staff reportedly spoke to the chef who indicated that they weigh each filet and all are 4 oz. The wait staff offered no remedy to us. I gave considerable thought to asking to speak with the manager, but since it was a special occasion, it felt awkward to bring unpleasantness to the diner. I had frites along with my mussels - frites were soggy and undercooked. Just letting management know of a situation that could have been handled much better, and that they have not only lost a potential repeat customer - but we’ll most assuredly share our experience with friends in the area and will recommend that they seek other French dining options.
Straightforward yet thoughtful menu. We loved our meals! The service was great, very attentive. The only thing that could be improved was the ambience in the dining room.
The food was delicious! We had the beet salad and the mushroom risotto. The noise level was good so that it was easy to carry on a conversation.
French bistrot fare that is always delicious. The 3-course prix fixe lunch is a very good value as are the happy hour plates in the bar.
Opted for the fixed-price lunch with soup (mushroom parsnip veloute), chicken paillard, and profiteroles for dessert. Everything was tasty, especially the profiteroles, with an unctuous chocolate sauce that was heavenly. Service was attentive but respectful. There's a terrace in the back that looks lovely, but not in winter, of course. Would go again in a heartbeat for the food and service. Mid-week lunch was not busy, and the new-ish location looks to be an area needing a bit of revitalizing.
It was quiet on Monday, but the experience was excellent. We choose the $29 fixed price menu and the $29 wine special and enjoyed everything.
Smallish neighborhood restaurant with on-street parking. The food and service are worth the trip. Wine specials added to the food enjoyment. Excellent creation, preparation and presentation. Prix fixe menu was creative and immensely enjoyable. Will go back soon and recommend others do as well, just not on the Saturday we will be there. :-)
My only complaint is that I reserved a particular table and had to remind the Maitre D who had it reserved for someone else later that evening. After a reminder I was given my reservation. My waiter was excellent. Clearly my notes in the opentable reservation were not seen or they were ignored.
The hostess acted preoccupied and too busy too greet us or let alone seat us. The server was brand new and couldn’t answer any of our questions about the menu. My significant other ordered the bouillabaisse and it came with literally one shrimp, one clam, and two mussels - so cheap! My cassoulet included confit duck, which was greasy and over cooked. Overall food was disappointing. Ambiance was horrible and soulless. We will not be going back.
Great food. Wonderful value wine. Nice and quiet. Good service. Will definitely come again.
Great meal as always! Enjoyed dinner with work colleagues and everyone was impressed.
Wish I could give 10 stars for service. Having been to Bastille before for dinner I was eager to try brunch. The three-course prix Fixe menu is a great deal. Choice of appetizer/salad, entree and dessert makes for a delicious way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We loved the live music - a marvelous jazz clarinetist. Can’t wait to come back to try more of this excellent brunch menu. Oh, and service was impeccable,
The food was very tasty, and the service was sedate, not rushed, but the table location near the outside door in mid-winter, and right close to the bathrooms cut into the ambience of the room. Otherwise, it was the usual good job on a Saturday night.
Bastille is our go to place for a great dinner. I highly recommend it my friends and co-workers.
The food is basic and a bit greasy. The service was rather unfriendly.
Was disappointed in the Valentines day dining. The service was incredibly slow and the food was over cooked and tasted like it had been sitting out (was dry). It took 20 min to get a drink and the waiter was kind of rude and not attentive.
The food was truly spectacular! The service was good even though it was very busy. The noise level was a little much for a romantic dinner.
Food was awesome. Lunch special was the best. Will return in the future. Highly recommended.
Wonderful place for Valentine’s Day lunch with outstanding food and service
Went here for a celebratory lunch and we both got the prix fixe menu and it was wonderful, highly recommend!
New “Bistro Night” menu perfect for a wintry evening. Food was lovely, service attentive, ambiance pleasant.
This restaurant has quickly made itself my favorite restaurant in all of old town. The food is exquisite, it tastes authentic and the service is really good. I have recommended this restaurant to friends, and I will be back. Absolutely love it!
Bastille's team never disappoints. Everything was as expected. For our birthday celebrations we had a fabulous time and our specialty Birthday cake was the best chocolate cake EVER!!! Many thanks to the Pastry Chef Michelle Poteaux for a gorgeous cake. We are proud to call ourselves "Regulars" at this excellent restaurant. If you've never been, it's time to give them a try.
Good service, nice options. No special treatment despite celebrating two birthdays.
We loved the food, service depended on how busy the bar was. When we arrived there was a waiter and a bartender. But midway through our meal, the waiter left and the bartender became both a bartender and a waiter. Of course right when that happened a party of 6 came in and wanted drinks while waitin for their table - that put a damper on our service. Not the bartenders fault but I can't imagine not having a waiter and a bartender during dinner time.
Another fantastic meal at our favorite local restaurant. Excellent service, fantastic food and delicious wine and cocktails.
