Baringo Food & Wine Co.
Set in the former – and sensitively restored – Whistlestop Pub along Station Road in New Gisborne, a satellite of Gisborne township served by the Bendigo railway line’s Gisborne station (right next door), the only clue to the gastronomic chops on offer at Baringo is the shaded alfresco seating area out front.
For us, the kitchens and counters are where the magic happens, with The Baringo Provedore offering cafe culture and the opportunity to stock up from the deli, a wine bar stocked with domestic and international vintages, and fine dining options with western dishes to suit every palate..

My partner and I went for stake night and the meal was absolutely amazing. Steak was cooked perfect, salad was delicious as were the chips. I have also been for pasta night twice and both times have been delicious. Will be back again and again.
Everything was great. Service very good. Waitress very helpful. Great night had by all.
Fantastic place to eat very happy with the quality of food garden views beautiful to look at.
Lovely atmosphere, excellent choice of background music playing. Will visit again soon.
Absolutely fantastic staff was loverly, John was so helpful with wines and food was superb
Service staff were very good. However our table was sticky to touch. Even the menus were somewhat sticky. Glass wall adjacent was in fact dirty too. We chose the chicken main and found, despite its presentation, was very bland. One of the breasts was relatively tough. We are old fashioned and the main meal served without any vegetables or salad just looks plain lonely. We have no problem with the pricing. Seating position, we are a table of 2 gave us zero privacy, as we were seated next to a family of four and then a table of 8?
Really nice garden area to look out on as well as the beautiful location with me Macedon Ranges near by.
Food and service was excellent.
Great food and service! We ordered the duck pasta which was home cooking at its best. The 400g dry aged steak was tender, flavoursome and cooked to perfection.
We travelled to Baringo on Sunday on a whim. I am so glad we did. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the wines available for selection were of a high standard.
Great lunch, beautiful food sitting outside on a beautiful day! Sincerely recommend but a little concerned as we entered the restaurant there was a ‘keep clear’ sign on the step with a huge blob of food that was spilt...that sat there the entire afternoon & seemed it was waiting for cleaners when quite simply the beautiful wait team good of simply sorted!
Four of us met for a Friday lunch and opted for the "Lunch Specials" - 2 for the gnocchi and 2 for the chicken.
The first course was a shared platter of antipasto: the freshest prosciutto, salami, preserved vegies and the best roasted, preserved champignons (which they make themselves) that I've ever tasted.
I found the gnocchi was excellent and the seafood sauce very tasty. One of the others who had the chicken said that it was very succulent but thought that the balsamic (?) dressing was a bit out of character.
My main complaint that it left no room for dessert!
We'll be back to try more from the ala carte menu
I’ve been to Baringo the first time for a fundraiser in the function room.
Then I organised a luncheon for 6...3 couples
Then organised a ladies luncheon both on a Sunday we all loved the place, food and service.
Look forward to our next time at Baringo.
Food was delicious. Service was a little slow and also noticed a few wait staff hanging around the counter while we were waiting but the food and wine was very tasty. Would definitely recommend this place but if you are in a rush, probably not the best place to go.
My daughter and I had a wonderful time. We shared entree dishes x2 and thought we would order more. Didn’t need to quantity and quality of food was excellent. We will be back. Service was good. Location super good
Steak night, cooked to our liking, delicious & great service
This was our first time dining here, the food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely anniversary dinner here and will definetely return.
It was a wonderful evening.
A great place for a quiet dinner for two, or a grand meal for 20. Excellent food, a huge range of wine for every budget and grest service. And they are great people to deal with. Highly recommended .
The only issue is the fact that if there are 3 people (as we were) ALL 3 have to partake of the $40 for 4 courses. Personally, I believe that since that is a share dinner, why couldn't 2 people have it whilst the 3rd. ordered Ala Carte? After all had there been just the 2 of us, they would have done the $40 for 4 courses for us!
We were seated very near a noisy table of women when there were lots of spare tables that would have been more pleasant for us especially as we were celebrating our anniversary. Overall the atmosphere was pleasant, quite modern which is not my taste but still nice. The staff were excellent. We didn't have to wait very long for our food and the food was really nice. I did think the desserts were very small for the price.
Food was average.
Friend had a steak which was full of fat and not cooked at requested. Meal couldn't be finished.
Wouldn't rush to go back to venue.
Fantastic food and service. Our food and beverage attendants were just great.
We had a lovely time at Baringo starting with some beers at the end of a warm spring day. Moving into the restaurant when the sun had gone down we were met by Jack who was most helpful throughout the evening. We had the food and wine match and enjoyed 5 course of a combination of share and individual plates. Cuisine we likened to Northern Italy which is great for us as my other half doesn't like tomatoes! The chef accommodated all preferences we gave from the start and it really was impressive. We look forward to going back again as it's a stone's throw from the Gisborne Train Station which means no driving required!
Our first time visit at Baringo; the decor & ambiance is great, it’s a lovely venue. However, our food was disappointing, my daughter’s polenta was hard & rubbery, which I mentioned to the waitress. All of our food was lukewarm. My son loved the fries. We had some great wine, and could probably drunk another couple of bottles of the Alsatian Pinot Blanc if we’d been asked, but after we declined dessert we were abandoned. I wouldn’t usually post a negative review but only doing so seeing as your system has prompted me for feedback.
Thoroughly enjoyed a night here with friends. Delicious food and great service.
Food and wine were lovely, table service was friendly and courteous but a few things were forgotten. The ambience is pleasant and modern. The main drawback was the speed at which the food was served. It was a very long time between entree and main. The wait staff said they had hurried up the kitchen so they were aware of the time concerns. Overall I would recommend Baringo.
I am very picky when it comes to the restaurant and the food but this place won me over. Lovely atmosphere, good food and good service. Definitely dinning there again
Attentive staff, wonderful food, great desserts and well. Great for dinner or even drinks, nibblies and dessert.
Delicious food. Fantastic service. Great atmosphere.
Stunning restaurant with big open windows that make you feel like you are outside on cold winter's day, yet remain warm inside. A lovely lunch deal of antipasto, a delicious main, home made bread and a glass of wine (from a huge range to choose from) for under $40.00. My daughter & I had delightful time.
Had a wonderful evening, great service, lovely food and ambience. Felt that minimum numbers should be listed on the five course option to save embarrassment. Very attentive but not overbearing service. We will certainly return.
Excellent friendly and helpful staff, good choice of menu and drinks. I definitely recommend the gnocchi, the best I have tasted. This is one of my favorite places.
Great modern industrial atmospherein a cool part of New Gisborne. The staff are very friendly and the service excellent. The new chef has brought back a delicious variety of foods to the menu.
Excellent evening. Good food. Good atmosphere. Good service.
Food was lovely and service was great - prompt drink service also
A great place to dine any time, any occasion. The menu is fantastic. Great quality food. Pleasant ambience in a lovely setting with peaceful views. Attentive and friendly waiters. Fantastic wines.
Always a pleasure at Barringo. Food is divine and the service was incredible. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Will be back again and again.
Started out nice, but overlooked our main course. steak chewy and tough
We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch at Baringo F&W. Such friendly service and a comfortable and stylish venue. Food was great. Wine was great. The only thing that could have made it better was if the waiters knew a little more about the wine list, but we had fun picking our own anyway.
Loved the place, the food and great service. We'll be returning with friends and family.
