Everything was good, but the waitress was VERY agressive.
Octopus dish was excellent!
I like the atmosphere at Barcocina, but the food is expensive and lacks flavor. I ordered the Carne Asada tacos and they were very average. I tried my friends bang bang shrimp tacos and I was surprised how sweet they were since bang bang shrimp is usually spicy. The service was very slow, we waited 30 minutes after we were done eating for anyone to come check on us. Overall the experience wasn’t great and the food is overpriced.
Great spot to gather with friends and family especially if you order a bunch of tacos and share amongst everyone. The sangria pitcher is a worth the purchase as it is strong and can serve up to 5. The food is pretty good for the price too
Good food. Good environment.
The food is good but the level of noise/music was too much for my taste. I don't like to scream at the other guests to be heard. My friends didn't seem as bothered as me by the music. If the weather is good, I would insist to sit outside or would go someplace else.
Great service and beautiful patio!
I love the atmosphere of this place. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a group setting—it is the perfect fit.
Great patio with fire pits, great for a date night. Food was excellent and good service!
Experience was good besides the service is always iffy here. I’ve been here plenty of times and the service is always bad on tuesdays.
The music was a little too loud for the afternoon. Hard to hear, but overall love the place.
Good spot for tacos and cocktails in a fun setting. Outdoor dining has a fun vibe too.
Tacos were good but not outstanding. Churro waffle was incredible! Very noisy outside with train. Waiter was great!
If you join for the bottomless brunch, you have 2 hours to make the most of the money you'll pay. The music was quite loud (we were sitting in the back, next to the tacos bar) and it was at times hard to maintain a conversation
Always GREAT food at barcocina. We went on a Saturday night and it was super crowded with the outdoor patio open so the service started off slow getting our drinks. But the waitress was very apologetic and took first round off our bill. If you’re sitting inside it can get rather loud but the side patio is awesome!
Great vibe, fun outdoor patio. Great margaritas, prices a little high for the portion size but not outrageous. I would definitely go back again!
Really enjoyed everything we had. Menu is very good. Our server was fabulous! My husband also asked for a special kind of margarita that had to be made from scratch and the end result? EXCELLENT! We will be returning and will put this on our list of regular restaurants for Saturday nights!
It was girls night out and we loved the food, margaritas, and space! The guacamole was awesome! We had some shared plates and two types of tacos that we added a 4th to so everyone could try. Our love was the shrimp tacos! We will go back.
Good food and prices but music is unnecessarily loud and annoying
Nice chilled atmosphere. 2nd time going at different times each time and had a good experience both time. Good mixture of music. Good for an outing with friends or a date
Good for 21-34 year olds. Very hot. No air on a 100 degree day.
My friends and I were really excited to eat at Barcocina... we pass by a lot and it always looks so fun. I made a reservation and when we first arrived the hostess asked in we wanted indoor/outdoor seating. We knew it was hot out but wanted to try the patio. We were seated directly in the sun (which is fine) but there were other tables available with umbrellas (where other guests were seated) and when we asked to move they said no.
After about 1 minute we decided we would enjoy ourselves more inside. I went back to the hostess stand and asked if we can switch inside and she said no. I explained that she offered inside/outside about 2 minutes before and she said it wasn’t available anymore and we would have to wait 45 minutes... even though we had a reservation.
So then we walked back outside and sat at our table. It took a while for the waiter to come over and when he finally did he said “did you guys seat yourselves?” so I started to explain how we were out here for a second but then tried going inside... he laid down menus and made a comment like: “oh so you guys are just calling the shots.” I’m sure he meant it in a sarcastic way, but at that point we were all a little annoyed.
My friends wanted to leave and go next door to The River but I wanted to stay. The food was great and the waiter was fine the rest of our time there but I was a little shocked at how rude we were treated from the start.
Barcocina had a great vibe with the music and great open space. However, the service wasn’t great since some of our dishes were brought out over 30 minutes later than the rest and the food was just okay. The waitress was sweet and was able to comp some dishes due to the mistake. Overall, I’d go just for drinks and the ambiance with friends.
The service was terrible to the point of no tip - and the noise it was so loud I could speak with my date
And them I ended walking to the manager to pay after waiting for 39 minutes - and he was just beyond rude like it was my fault
Never will come back
Great food and good ambiance.
Reservation was for 8:15 and they did not seat us until around 8:45. Food was overpriced and very average. Servers/hostess were unfriendly
We waited until past the appetizers were served to get our drinks (not good).
When we asked why they said it was because it was the end of Happy Hour.
If we had the choice for HH prices or drinks in a timely manner we would have just opted for full price and quickly. We had walked from Wrigley.
Overall fine- just waited WAY WAY too long for drinks.
Food is overpriced and low quality. Drinks were great.
Really cool spot. Had their new amalfi coast cocktail and a couple of skinny punches. Delicious. We shared the shrimp ceviche the walking taco - the tuna. and a couple of tacos. All on point. Great vibe. Great service. Sat inside cause it was sweltering. Will be back for patio and more. New go to in Chicago.
Taco Tuesday deal is a little weird, but the food was good as always! Beef empanadas were good, fried but not too doughy. Patio was great, although the mist was slightly strong and a little annoying. Ending on a great note with wonderful red sangria and banana Nutella empanadas.
My girlfriend and I were very pleased with our lunch. Everything was amazing from the atmosphere to the food. I will definitely be coming back!
Food was well below average and tasteless. Drinks were good but nothing spectacular. This place has the atmosphere and is a gorgeous space but the food needs a lot of work to make it worth the price
It was way too hot and there were no fans to keep the air moving. I wouldn’t recommend going there on those super hot Chicago days!
The service was the worst I have experienced in Chicago. We had to beg two people to bring our check. Our water was only filled the first time and no one came over to ask if we wanted more. The waitress didn’t come back around to ask how we were until we asked the hostess for our check. She then asked if we wanted another drink. Well our drinks had been done for over 30 min and we weren’t good enough for her to ask before. No thanks ... we will go somewhere else for another drink. Ironically I was telling a friend about our experience and he said he has been here twice and won’t come back because the service is so horrible.
waited 10 minutes before we were even able to get silver wear and a napkin. got our food out before our drinks. overall just a bad night of service. took 25 minutes to get our drinks.
Always have great food and service at Barcocina!
This is a great chill date night spot or place to get drinks and a bite to eat with friends!! I’d recommend going during happy hour. Great deals and delicious food and drinks. I got the firecracker shrimp lettuce wraps and my boyfriend got the hanger steak. Both delicious. The guacamole was also very good.
I've probably been to this place 11 or 12 times since they opened a few years ago. It honestly feels very cookie-cutter at this point. Their wait staff is generally very young, and with each visit seem to have less substantive knowledge of the menu, especially the cocktail menu. Their formulas and recipes are pretty narrow, and they don't seem particularly compelled to deviate or try to create from what they've done. At this point I think they are getting a lot of mileage out of a relatively open floor layout and nice outdoor seating area. If I go there again, it will probably be driven by convenience (across the street from my office), but I will not go out of my way.
Great food and delicious drinks in a fun upbeat atmosphere ! Would love to go back and sit on the patio when the weather gets better!
