"Fideo and borracho beans with cilantro and pork belly simmering on the stove, the spicy warmth of menudo every Christmas and New Year’s, egg salad with a fried egg between a butter toasted bolillo, and puffy tacos stuffed with lengua carnitas and crushed avocado and doused with pequin chile vinegar salsa. These are just some of the dishes that have inspired me – the food that I was nurtured with by the women who raised me. Bar Amá is my interpretation of their Tex-Mex." – Chef Josef Centeno
Every dishes was delicious, especially the queso and the stone fruit salad.
Great service, amazing food, and great atmosphere.
This restaurant had a cool vibe, great customer service, and the playlist is awesome (hip hop/rap). Overall chill and would recommend going during happy hour.
The guacamole was out of this world!
My husband and I were remarking over the fact that we have NEVER been disappointed at Bar Ama! Not once. The food is always good, we never wait too long to be seated, get our drinks or our food! The energy is amazing and the people are top shelf. Josef, you are one hell of a chef!
I love this place! Have been once a week since I moved to the area, and everything I've tried has been fantastic!
Just wasn’t expecting how small the portion was but I enjoy going to this place every time I do go
The service was great. The venue was good however the food was too salty. Nothing we ordered really made a good impression.
Crowded. The tables are too close together, and there are too many of them. As a larger person, I felt claustrophobic. I got tired of hearing the neighboring table's conversation. The food is good though; I think in the future, I'll be getting it to go.
Seems the quality of food went down, however, great service as always.
Very cool CalMex composition of menu. Great vegetarian and gluten free options, but also saw them very appetizing meat options on the menu. Amazing cocktails. Great price!
The 2 hostesses were friendly and helpful. The waiter was friendly, attentive, and offered great suggestions.
Very good menu selection for brunch/lunch. My wife doesn’t care for spicy food and she was able to find something good. I ordered some fried Serrano’s and while not on the menu, didn’t seem to have any issue with making them. The shandys were very refreshing. Welcoming knowledgeable staff.
Everything we had was DELICIOUS, with the excerption of the broccoli which was strangely bad.
Well balanced cocktails and good service.
Great food. Great drinks. Very expensive. Loud environment. Super fun design and enjoyable place to be.
The best ever !
The squash blossoms are EVERYTHING
Gerardo has been our server the last couple of times we’ve gone and his knowledge of the menu and overall fantastic personality made our dining experience that much better.
Pre-theater dining, so noise level was low at first. Excellent service, food way beyond expectations for a former Texan. We loved the guacamole, cauliflower, chicken mole enchiladas, cochinita pibil mocajete. The hot sauce 3-sauce flight was a terrific addition.
Amazing food. Fun ambiance. Good location.
Great food but hard parking but I will return. And big portions
I had to write a review on this amazing place
The feel of this place is very warm and inviting not only is the staff sweet, informative, helpful and very easy on the eyes the food and drinks were hands down incredible. It was my first time here and definitely not my last time. I have been telling all my friends that we must come and check this place out again. Two thumbs up 👍 I’ve found my new favorite spot in Dtla and it also doesn’t hurt that it’s less then ten minutes from my place.
It was great, only gripe was server could have checked on our table instead of me having to flag them down.
I've been here with a friend and with family. The food is consistently great and tastes fresh. They have extended their menu and have more options including my favorites: pesto cauliflower & puffy tacos!
Much better than we expected. The green enchiladas with chorizo and the sweet potatoes were terrific, as was the beer flight. The only disappointment was the cheese sauce appetizer— thin and watery and not at all worth the price. Overall, very good, though. We’ll definitely be coming back.
I've been here often and always enjoy it. We started with the queso and guac. I had the puffy tacos in cochinita pibil and grilled shrimp. So good! The rest of the group had various dishes that they all enjoyed.
Puffy tacos are a must
Service was extremely friendly and the food was excellent and delivered in a very timely manner I highly recommend to a friend
Fairly bland and mediocre food. Bland and lack of basic seasoning. Made a reservation for 5 weeks in advance and confirmed on the day. Nevertheless, the table was mot set up when we arrived even though the restaurant wasn’t full. We were hiven a bad table right in front of the entrance which just added to the indifferent dining experience. Staff were nice
The food and drinks are delicious, but as most DTLA restaurants, it's slightly over-priced.
Food is good, slightly salty for one of the dishes we got but otherwise very tasty, good portions, and very filling.
Seriously. Get the Chalupa. I doubted it, but the waitress said it was her favorite. And, it was amazing.
The brunch menu was limited for a Saturday 12pm table. We prefer the evening menu. Drinks were very good.
I LOVE this restaurant! My only irk was that they don't make very comfortable accommodations for tables of two. They initially attempted to squeeze us into an impossibly small nook, then we were placed directly against a wall with only a sliver between us and the next table. Tables with 3+ are definitely given more room and comfort. Something to think about that two-tops would like some space as well.
The food was really good but a little greasy. I got the green enchiladas, which were tasty, as well as the chips and guacamole. The chips were awesome and the guacamole had a nice level of spice. The ambience was amazing and perfect for a date. The rest of the people in the restaurant were pretty loud, but it was definitely expected and it was a positive energetic vibe. Our waitress was really kind in explaining the menu to my boyfriend and even let us sample their mole! Awesome place, would go again!
I would recommend Bar Ama with certain caveats. I like hip-hop but it gets monotonous after a while just like other genres do. A little variety wouldn't hurt (although purists may think otherwise). The food was well prepared and fresh but not all that exciting. Nevertheless, a good meal at a reasonable price. And the service was flawless.
Great but had to wait ten minutes to be seated (and had a reservation). Other then that, love the atmosphere, food and drinks!
Bar Ama was outstanding. The food was prepared artfully and simply, and all the dishes we had were so unique in flavor.
The space and atmosphere had a great vibe.
Can’t wait to go back!
Good drinks , service and food . And music was good too
Small eats, but worth the price. The food here is amazing. One of my favorite spots downtown.
