BaoziInn - Romilly Street
Baozilnn -人民公社, meaning “people’s canteen” has been brought to you by Barshu group, which, twelve years ago, caused a sensation on the London restaurant scene by opening Barshu Restaurant.
The only flaw was that there seems to be no more leave teas accompanying the delicious and very authentic food.
I can very much recommend the experience!
We love dim sum and came to BaoziInn in Romilly Street with high hopes. The service was lovely, the food was fine but perhaps we didn't pick the best things on the menu - the dim sum was nice but we've had better at more traditional places. Our Dan Dan noodles were really overpowering verging on unpleasant. The bill was not expensive but again nowhere as reasonable as other traditional Chinese dim sum restaurants / eateries. I would be willing to give it another go but not rushing back.
Service was ok, we asked for water, my glass was barely half full. We asked to change tables as the room we were in was very small & had no natural light, we were told this wasn’t possible even though the ground floor seemed sparsely populated. The rice came about 5 mins before the dim sum - We waited. “Oh the dim sum takes longer to cook than the rice” said our waitress - so why not hold off on the rice or at least explain that to us up front & give us the option? The rice was delicious as was the colourful dim sum but there were some nodules of fat in the pork. The mixed platter of skewers was all meat, some of it fatty & chewy and there was no prawn as stated on the menu. Sadly the experience did not meet our expectations.
Baozi Inn used to have a gorgeous Hunanese based dumpling menu. They recently changed their menu and now it’s just a little bit...basic.
Dumplings are the star here! Excellent. The skewers are great, the seasoning isn't the best. Will definitely be going back!
Amazing and tasty food. Service was patient and helpful to explain and recommend menu. 100% recommend!
Food was good, although spicy, but it was so noisy we left before finishing our meal, and did not consider desert.
This was our second visit in only 2 weeks, on our first visit we gatecrashed a friends date night and joined them for dinner, it was soo good that when we were arrange dinner with other friends of ours BoaziInn was top of the list. So many excellent dishes here, Dan Dan Noodles are my husbands favourite, as is the Aubergine in Fish-fragrant Sauce (doesn't actually have fish sauce in it and is vegan friendly), my favourites are the Classic Xiao Long Bao with Minced Pork (best soup dumplings I have ever had) and Chengdu Jiaozi (pork filled dumplings).
Delicious food, not a lot of variety of fillings for the dumplings but delicious nevertheless. Lovely cute place with a good vibe! Would definitely go back again.
Food was good, but the incorrectly provided one of our dishes. Then forgot to provide one of the dishes we actually ordered, but we realised later that they still charged us for it.
Fab food and service and cannot wait to return! This was my second visit, the service was attentive and not overbearing and if you are not familiar with the menu, the staff make some great recommendations. Perfect for a pre-theatre meal 😀
Firstly the food was good. Some dishes very good; the king prawns and crispy noodles being the highlight... More variety than other bun restaurants in the area. The service was perfunctory but fine.
The issues were more of the set-up variety. The tables are tiny, I was dining with my daughter and we were placed in a window table sat next to each other looking towards others sat similarly around the small room.
Secondly, the whole experience seemed geared towards the restaurant extracting approximately £100 from every table as quickly as possible. Plain rice arrived before anything else (not really an hors d'oeuvre). Buns next and finally the two main dishes we ordered. When we were done with mains that was it. No dessert options, no coffee, no brandy, just the bill....
While we enjoyed the food, if we wanted this kind of brusque "in and out" eating we could eat elsewhere for cheaper.... If you wanted somewhere for a leisurely lunch or dinner then this isn't it.... YMing is across the road, probably a better option if you want Chinese food in a restaurant setting....
The food was very good, we were sat by the window and it felt quite small and intimate.
The service wasn't bad but our food didn't come at the same time 2 rice dishes first then maybe 10 or more mins for the 2 noodles
Excellent food, we mostly ate dumplings and skewers to share as there were so many of us. Warm night so we needed a jug of iced water on the table, but only served water by the glass, which was hard work for our waiter!
Will definitely return in a smaller group to try other dishes from the interesting menu.
Fairly average dumpings focused restaurant, authentic northern mainland taste, a bit cramped, and a bit overpriced, otherwise fairly average, minus the Communist CCP/Mao crap
The menu has changed. And not for the better. :(
Please bring back the custard and tea pot! and I think your fried rice is going down.. it was not like that before.
Good service. However, there are Better xiao long baos to be had elsewhere.
Best place ever, already booked in for a birthday. The food menu is excellent with the service second to none
Was very impressed with the food and the service! Most appealing dim sum I’ve ever had. When ask for recommendation, our waiter didn’t disappoint.
Tried some other dishes to my usual - Standard overall is still very good! Service friendly but more recommendation/interaction would be nice
It's nice enough. A little pricey once you've ordered 2 or 3 dishes each + drinks. The Dan Dan noodles were lovely, though!
Excellent food as always. Service was split between excellent & then being quite terse depending on staff member. It was a Saturday lunchtime so busy but will definitely go back
WHERE IS OUR FOOD!!!
The restaurant started well and we had 3 of our 6 dishes served to us in 10 minutes or so.
The pork skewers were some of the best pork we’ve had, delicious!
That was the end of anything good after that! We had NO service after that and you could not find a table waiter!
They were happy trying to cram in more dinners off the street, but forgot about their current diners in the restaurant!
After waiting 40 minutes with NO service and no more food (the other 3 dishes we ordered plus water),we finally flagged down a front desk lady and asked for the bill.
Of course the bill comes charging us for the 3 dishes that never arrived! We finally sort out the bill, without the 3 missing dishes and guess what? No offer of discount, no offer to rush the missing dishes to our table, no apology apart from a muffled “sorry” after we paid and with his back to us!!!
What a disappointment, as the food that we did taste was excellent, but unfortunately this was overshadowed by lack of service and definitely no customer satisfaction!!
Never to return!
Most interesting dim sum in London these days, at a price.
Waiters need to be a little more observant when a customer need to catch their attention. Dandan noodles was dissatisfactory, too much lime juice in it.
Poor service put a dampener on the dinner
Crap service but great food
Took us 20 minutes of sitting down stairs until someone took our drinks order. People walking past but not paying us any attention
I don't like being stuck in the back room, which has no windows and is much more claustrophobic. Otherwise a good meal - the waiter did get 3 dishes wrong but we ate them anyway. Luckily for us we are regulars. Please note, next time seat us in a good table with a window!
Birthday overall good
We were very impressed with this restaurant.
I love love love what it is all about.
Had a great dinner here on Friday night. The recommendations from out waiter were excellent, just the right amount of food and absolutely delicious!
This was my first time and I was really impressed, the food was excellent, the staff were friendly and the service absolutely fine. Highly recommended, but don't go if you're looking for crispy duck and that kind of chinese food, this is much more regional.
Cute place. Great service. Delicious food. No complaints!
Great dim sum. Go mid day. Good service.
Not really the best place. Staff is not very welcoming, and the food is reasonably good. The ambience it’s quite strange because of the way the tables are arranged.
Food had interesting colours, but taste wise there was little that stood out as being particularly authentic or memorable. In a sense, it felt quite gimmicky. We were given a table and a bench, and therefore had to sit in a row rather than facing each other. The tea was decent, but once again, nothing special. Service was generally prompt and good.
We were put in the room one level down, which is not a particularly nice space - it basically feels like a bare corridor. The only good thing about the location was that waiters were constantly walking by, so we could ask them for things that we already asked for but didn't bring. Food was variable - some very nice dishes, but other disappointing ones - for example there is only one savoury vegetarian dumpling dish on the menu, which was rather dull. Don't go if you are a vegetarian. The prawn dumplings were very nice. The chilli seabass is good if you are happy with LOTS of spice. Don't order the merlot.
Amazing food and lots of choice. Definitely recommend.
Service poor I phones were more important than us . Poor wine recommendation . Had to ask all the time for the basic services .
