The Nasi goreng was also overpriced. Was similar to something I'd get at my local Thai restaurant but cost twice as much.

Had dinner here Friday evening, the place was quite cold. Customers was still wearing their coats whilst eating. The uber driver left the door open for the last 10 minutes. Felt sorry for the couple sat by the door. Shared the chefs banquet, the food was good but nothing to rave about. Satay Chicken was abit dry. The seafood dishes were the best dishes. Overall great value for money we had lots of food

By coincidence, we had booked during the Oyster and Jazz festival! We were sat in the outdoor area, which meant we were treated to some very interesting live performances and a really energetic vibe.
The food was amazing - from the Gao Baos (soft shell crabs all the way!) right through to the amazing curries on offer. Highly recommended, and we will be back!
Really enjoyed the food on the Saturday afternoon. The mussel festival was on and we booked a table inside, we were disappointed that our table was reserved outside. As it turns out the atmosphere was so much better outside and part of the festival. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was tasty and the choices were many. We enjoyed everything we ordered but the trio of bao was my favourite. I thought the price was good considering we had alcohol and tried a few dishes, we didn’t leave hungry.
Food was fantastic. Service was patchy, we felt very rushed at the beginning - continually approached by different staff even though we had already asked for more time. We felt like staff were under instructions to get our orders quick so the table could be freed up. After we finished, the opposite was the case, unable to catch anyone’s eye to get the bill. The restaurant has a good vibe but it is noisy. We will eat there again though

This restaurant is AMAZING !!! Saturday at 6:45pm was our reservation and from the very moment we walked in the team greeted us with welcoming smiles, showed us straight to our already set up table and their exceptional service did stop until we we ready to leave. We decided to have the banquet and I am VERY glad we did could not fault a single item that was brought to our table. Drinks were topped up prompting, even the cocktails we ordered came out very very quickly despite the restaurant almost being what looked like a full house. The quality of the food was really something else and it all was presented so well. Stand out dishes were all the bao buns we’ve all never had such fresh, light and delicate bao buns, they just melted in your mouth. They were that good the guys ordered more on top of our banquet. The red duck curry and was also another stand out, honestly everything actually was! It was really an amazing dining experience, we all will definitely be back and brining friends and family from all over.

I do like this restaurant when they serve you with food that is on the menu. They have a tendency to swap out ingredients or totally leave out ingredients. When they get it right it’s really nice food.
I wouldn’t recommend to a friend just because the music was really too loud. I couldn’t hear my partner talk who was right next to me. This changed the whole mood of the place.

Went to Bambu with my boyfriend because we decided to stay in the docklands for a couple of nights for a romantic getaway.
We love asian fusion & this restaurant stood out to us, i was so extremely happy with the service.
The food was amazing and we were expecting to spend a little bit of money at this dinner. But we were wrong, we spent way over budget & were so incredibly happy with our date!

We arrived for our 7pm booking which we booked online and requested an indoor table. We were put outside. We then waited 40 minutes without being offered a drink. We ordered including drinks at the same time. All the food we ordered, several small plates as we were a group of 5, arrived all at the same time. There was no room on the table and we were forced to rush to eat the food to make room. We needed to stack empty plates for more room.
We then ordered a further small plate and further drink at the end and the food was forgotten.
For the amount we spent, we expected much better service.
We really enjoyed our meal it was delicious......a little tight with the seating ....service was great though ....totally recommend 😃😃
I shared 3 different plates with a friend and each one tasted better than the last. My taste buds were having a party!

Second visit and it lived up to expectations. Great price point, fresh, well prepared and presented food - and a bit of a hawker stall vibe. We'll be back.
I should preface this review by saying I'm a regular diner at BAMBU - but typically I visit during the week for lunch (and sometimes even on a non-market day!!)
The food is great - accessible asian with Thai/Korean/Chinese influences. Great selection of smaller dishes for sharing (and the kitchen can adapt the numbers to suit your party). The bao are fantastic (I love the friend chicken) and all the dumplings are spectacular. The barramundi curry is my favourite dish and I always order this. This time we also tried the coconut beef curry which was gorgeous - highly aromatic and spicy. I can't recommend the food enough.
BUT, on this occasion, we went for Sunday lunch (I booked via OpenTable prior which is a new booking system for BAMBU). It was busy. Very busy. We had to wait five minutes for the diners to move off our table. The tables were wiped but we had no water (until we asked). There was no cutlery or chopsticks (until we asked). Our drinks took over 10 minutes to arrive. We ordered our food with some basic preference for how we'd like it brought out. This is not going to happen on a Sunday - it comes when it comes!!
So I absolutely recommend BAMBU but if you go on a weekend, you need to tolerate some inconsistencies with service. I guess that's to be expected at any of the South Melbourne Market eateries though.
I recommend lunch on Thursday when it's still bustly not panicked :)
Bambu has great food. I've always enjoyed the dishes I have tried. The staff are nice and it's lovely to sit outside in Summer. I find being indoors a little noisy with the concrete floors. I think the food is very reasonably priced as well and the quality consistent.
BAMBU is one of my favourite places in South Melbourne!
The fitout is contemporary and simple and because of the hard surfaces it can get noisy but mostly it's must bustly. Service is friendly and efficient.
Wine list is accessible with some great French options. They also have full bar (which suits my dad who always starts with a martini!!)
The food is exceptional - Thai influences erring towards the sweet palate. The prawn spring rolls are a generous serve and fantastic with mint and avocado dipping sauce. All the dumplings are sensational, I especially like the chilli prawn. The bao buns (made in the outside kitchen) are a great deal and the friend chicken are my favourite. The servings are all generous and great for sharing.
My FAVOURITE dish is the barramundi curry - slightly sweet green curry sauce with perfectly cooked barramundi and vegetables. It really is a standout!!
I eat here regularly (every couple of weeks) and have never had a bad meal.
They recently added OpenTable booking which makes it especially easy. It can get busy on market dates (booking recommended) although Thursday is a great day to go (as parking is a breeze).
bambu has great food and reasonably priced. the only problem with the restaurant is that it is so loud and very hard to have a conversation with the person next to you.
Amazing staff, quick service, AMAZING food!
We got in early and were almost the only people seated indoors on arrival.
Staff made sure we were never without a drink and offered help selecting food for two people.
We took on their suggestions and were wrapped with everything.
Will be back again and highly recommend their food if you like spicy food!
