Waited 45 minutes between entree and main. Waiter spoke broken English. Had a food allergy and waiter could not confirm or deny if meals had that ingredient. Champagne with limoncello came out warm - was $30, so expected it to be cool. Waiter also didn’t know the drink. We’re forgot about between entree and main and 2 x glasses wine took 10 minutes to come out. Food itself was nice. Would not return or recommend, unfortunately.
The service was great and a good place to catch up with friends.
I thi k the best place to eat at the Crown. The food was interesting and innovative. The service could have been a little more attentive or they could have left the wine at the table as we’d have to call their attention to our empty glasses.
The food was OK but definitely not worth the price tag - the calamari was nice, the pasta well cooked but the lamb was half cold and lacked any flavor - the vegetable side was horrible.
Staff were not the best, I had noted in my booking that it was for my partners birthday and we would appreciate a nicer table - but were not given one - despite the restaurant being half empty. The service was fine but nothing special - not worth it if booking for a special occasion.
I would certainly not return
When we arrived we were asked if we are going to a show , which was the case , from then the food came out in timely manner , the service was great , we finished our meal on time , no rush & made it on time to the show.
They also took the time to make a special presentation for our birthday girl :)
Serving size was quite generous, was full after a 4 course meal.
Place was a little loud for my liking.
There were 7 of us, and we had a great evening at Balla. A lovely round table where we could all sit around and chat. It wasn't too noisy so we could easily hear everyone at the table, even though the whole restaurant had an energetic atmosphere. The food was divine. Complementary breads to begin, then entrée, mains & dessert, plus wine and cocktails. Everyone in our party was delighted with all their meals. Professional service by all staff who were happy and engaged. Highly recommend!
A warm sunny table for a Winter lunch, with food and service to match.
Good food, nice wait staff, great wine.
Would come back.
Food was delicious and service was great, but it was very noisy, there were kids watching iPads very loud on the next table, that was the only nagative experience in an otherwise perfect dinner
Thank you Balla for phenomenal food and exceptional service. We enjoyed a three course meal before heading to a show at Lyric Theatre and it was simply exquisite. The value of the pre-theatre menu was incredible considering the high quality food. Would absolutely return to Balla in the future, and recommend to all foodies and friends.
Great food, staff and vibrant atmosphere. A great place to eat before the theatre
Great venue for pre-show dining
should provide more choice on your menu
Had a fantastic pre-theatre dinner here with my husband on our wedding anniversary. I am Italian-Australian and have high expectations of the food from my parents' country. Balla did not disappoint. The quail in pancetta was as good as my father's and I will be back for this dish alone. The gnocchi with pork ragu was equally perfect. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pumpkin ravioli, the venison not so much because he prefers his meat less rare. The atmosphere and service were sensational.
We had a great experience at Balla. We dined a la carte before the theatre and had plenty of time. Service was friendly and prompt. Good wine recommendations based on our brief. We all very much enjoyed our food and it was good value for money. We'll be back.
Solid option at the casino for a quality meal. Hard to order an average meal. The wine list is excellent.
The service at lunch service (this time) was not as attentive as i would have liked, but was friendly.
Fabulous for a pre show dinner. Prompt friendly service and great flavours
Great location inside Star City Casino, very attentive staff & good food but will have to try the pasta next time.
Went with 4 people for pre-theatre dinner however we ordered from the a la carte menu. Food was very average - disappointing - gone downhill since our last visit. Main courses did not arrive all at the same time - some 5 minutes or more between first 2 then remainder - sides took another 5+ minutes.
Extremely accomodating for coeliac’s, and the best gluten free dining I’ve experienced thus far.
The fresh gluten free pasta and pastries were absolutely delicious.
Service time for food was excellent. Wait staff were a little slow, however they were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the experience was not bad enough to deter me from visiting again.
Porchetta was a highlight, however the spinach was very salty.
Food here is always good, and service was friendly, but super slow, not responsive to requests, I had to ask twice to order and for the bill - and chase up wine ordered but not delivered. Shame. I will go again, but in the hope it is much better. It's too expensive to not have top notch service.
The lunch was very enjoyable, only comment I have is, I had booked the table as a birthday lunch for a work colleague and requested a candle or cake as such. This never arrived and was disappointing.
Great pre theatre option. Unfortunately the service on the evening was average; if you can’t remember the order, don’t act as though you’re able & not write it down. A few mistakes were then made. The food was nice though & prompt which allowed for us to exit on time...
Gorgeous fine Italian dining!! The meal started with a complimentary bread basket, containing three different types of bread, plus olive oil for dipping. We took advantage of the seasonal truffle menu, ordering the seared scallops and black truffle. For main, we had the porchetta slow roasted suckling pig to share and oven roasted vegetables. Dessert was a tasting plate of tiramisu, cannoli, profiterole and lavender sorbet. Amazing experience!!
We were disappointed with the quality of our meals and service in comparison to other previous visits to Balla.
Good meal prior to theatre. Staff very good.
Seemed to really be Italian. ( Olive oil instead of butter. Wait staff probably Italian.) Maitre'd VERY helpful.
Service was excellent. Food was very ordinary
Delicious food, friendly and professional staff.
Lovely corner table at the window.
Pre-theatre dinner where were not rushed and still had plenty of time to get to the Lyric.
Would have been great if the bar had been open for a drink before dinner.
Well priced 3 course menu with matching wines. Not spectacular & service was inconsistent (ok to good). Nice ambience/outlook & a good pre theatre option.
great food, great service lovely place.
Disappointed. Service wasn’t great considering they knew we had to get to a show.
Food was nice but wouldn’t call it amazing. My main was warm, not hot.
We took the theatre dinner with 3 course and it was perfect in taste & timing.
Incredible service, incredible views, incredible food ❤️❤️❤️
Gorgeous food, lovely wine list. Will definitely be back.
We had dinner at Balla prior to seeing a show at the Lyric Theatre and the fact that they provided a pre theatre menu was fantastic as we were served and out in time but didn't feel that we were rushed.
Staff were friendly and knew their stuff!
Absolutely amazing food and service. We love this restaurant 🙂
Came her for a pre theatre dinner, and was very pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious, the service very attentive and the wine list was great.
It was a little noisy, but we booked late and ended up next to 2 large groups..
Can't wait to come back..
