Now that the summer is over and the shore has been given back to year round residents it is time to go back to Bahrs for great seafood and perhaps even better German cuisine. You can't beat the place for the relaxed friendly atmosphere, the decor is kitchy, and the location is beautiful; the view of the river alone is worth the price of the meal. Do not miss out on the chowder, their Manhattan clam is possibly the best in the area and the lobster bisque is not far behind. All of the seafood dishes are well prepared but the flounder Milanese we had this week was just perfect. And I know it is weird to go to a seafood place for German food, but Bahr's does it well. Their Jagerschnitzel is incredible, the veal is tender and the breading is light and crispy. And before I sign off I want to give a call out to our waiter Alex for service above and beyond on a very busy crazy evening, we never felt ignored or rushed.
Our party of 8 had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner thanks to the great food and Ann, our waitress. It could not have been better, and what a gorgeous view!
Thoroughly enjoyable from the pre dinner cocktails at the bar to the post dinner drinks at the table.

Manhattan clam chowder & split pea soups...excellent! Mixed choices from Oktoberfest menu e.g. sauerbratten , wurst sampling, German potato salad, + crab cake platter & fish and chips...all outstanding!
Unbelievable apple strudel & German chocolate cake....cannot be duplicated!

Lovely location right on the docks, great water views. Big seafood menu, plus lunch specials, restaurant week menu, Oktoberfest items. Good service, was not too busy. Oysters Rock were good, crabcakes ok, scallops ok, schnitzel eh.
The food was delicious, but I think for Restaurant Week, for the price you paid maybe they could of offered a little more food.

We got to the restaurant and the person at front must have been new. She was very pleasant however there was a man cowering over her obviously making her very nervous and angrily telling her how to do things and what she was doing wrong. Not a great way to start the evening. We were shown to our seat and we felt like we were on a cruise ship. The floor was tilted much throughout the entire restaurant. Our waiter was excellent, my lobster pot pie was amazing. My husbands catch of the day Monk fish was very good, the potatoes tasted like they were roasted in rancid oil to me, string beans fresh and desserts were okay. The greeting we received put a damper on the whole evening. There was a large table near us with a child that had a tablet and it was playing a show EXTREMELY LOUD. I can't believe they were not asked to lower the volume. If it were just up to the food we would probably go back. The atmosphere and angry/anxious vibe that we felt negates that and we will not be returning.
Visited Bahrs Landing last Saturday. We had a reservation and were seated almost immediately. They offer German food October through mid-November which I like as there are not many German restaurants in my area. My boyfriend likes seafood so it was a good choice for us. The potato pancakes were very good (served with Applesauce an Sour Cream). As an appetizer I received 3 good sized pancakes. For my entree I had Sauerbraten which was equally as good. My boyfriend had shrimp stuffed with crab meat and he was happy with the portion and flavor. They also have a decent wine selection and good choice of deserts, even German Chocolate Cake and Black Forest. The restaurant itself is old but renovated. Very relaxed atmosphere and our table faced the water. It was a clear night and you can see Manhattan. I would definitely recommend Bahrs and looking forward to going back.

Enjoyed the Hofbrauhaus Octoberfest menu on this visit. The German meatballs for app and the Sauerbraten and Wiener Schnitzel for entres were all really very good. The German Chocolate cake dessert was creamy and delightful.
This was our 1st visit. We had the popcorn shrimp for an appetizer. It was delicious and not overly fried. I had the broiled scallops and my husband had the hot lobster roll - both were very good! The scallops were cooked perfectly - not rubbery and over cooked. We sat right next to a window overlooking the water. We will definitely be back.
Just a casual dinner. Can't beat the view and the weather was perfect. Always the nicest wait staff that make dining a pleasure.
Living in the area we usually avoid the waterfront restaurants during the tourist season so we hadn't been to Bahr's in quite a while.
We went on a fall day specifically for the Octoberfest food. The selection was limited but what we chose was mostly very good. Our appetizer was the sausage sampler, two well cooked sausages with sauerkraut a nice choice. My wife ordered wiener schnitzel with the gravy on the side. This came with spaetzel, red cabbage, and sauerkraut. Traditionally wiener schnitzel is veal, this version was pork. A very nicely done meal. The meat was perfect though the gravy was a bit salty for my taste. I had the grilled smoked pork chops. These were also served with red cabbage, german potato salad, and red cabbage. The pork chops were outstanding, perfectly prepared. We also ordered a side of 3 potato pancakes to share. Though the sides were in general good the potato pancakes were not. The looked and tasted like they were made from a store bought mix. I was disappointed as I do like a good potato pancake.
I was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. I expect that we will go back soon for a seafood meal.
Went for a friends birthday. She ordered twin lobster tails supposed to be 6 ounces each. They gave her 4 , 3 ounce tails. Dried out over cooked. Showed the waitress. She picked a tail up with her hand and took to the kitchen. She came back with a new one yet there were 3 more over cooked tails on the plate. Asked for the manager. Watched as the waitress talked to the manager and watched as they laughed for 3 minutes before her came over. He then says this is how they serve them off season he said the waitress should have told us. He took the uneaten food off the tab. We ordered desserts. One was apple strudel. I asked if there was raisins was told nope. Of course it was loaded with raisins. To make matters worse when we told the manager about how the waitress took the food off the plate with her bare hands he told her before our desserts came out. Can’t imagine why he would humiliate her and make her continue to wait on us. Very mean man.

As usual a pretty good meal. They do seafood right, but if you are not a big seafood fan the selection is extremely limited. Our group has one who is not a big seafood lover and dreads going here. The selections for non seafood lovers is a Filet Mignon, over cooked, dry pot roast or some chicken in a pasta and sauce dish. We'd come more often if the selection was a bit expanded.
We used to come here when I was a child. The food is still good, ole school restaurant cooking, quality and quantity. The fresh hot biscuits were soft and flaky soooo good. I had the crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was filled with pieces of lump crab meat, little filler. Delicious!
We wait for Oktoberfest to have Bahr’ German fare every year. However this year we were disappointed,the potato pancakes were served to us Luke warm and the schnitzel was subpar. Donna was superb as our waitress and we mentioned it to her and hope she shared our comments with the Chef. It would be a shame for others to have this same experience.
We will not give up on Bahrs but please read and take note.

We witted forever for our reservation. Our service was horrible.
Great seafood. Very tasty. However, they were very busy and because they were so busy, service was a bit lacking. I had ordered a clam chowder and they forgot. They said they would not charge me but they did. Had to wait for them to re-print corrected receipt but took additional time...otherwise food and service were great. Definitely will be coming back!
I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. Love sitting on the water and taking in the views. Excellent wine and beer list and desserts are always excellent.
Dined on a Monday evening, myself and two guests. I cannot recall the waiter's name, but he was very attentive, but not overbearing. Service was excellent. Drinks were excellent - I had a Makers Mark Manhattan which was made to perfection (so many shore area "bartenders" don't have a clue as to how to make the classic cocktails). Food was delicious - one of my companions and I each had the fried seafood sampler, the third member of our party had the pot roast -- all very good. My ONLY complaint: the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer was not available tonight (though it WAS listed on the menu) - Bahrs Oysters Rockefeller are the best anywhere.
Extremely cold restaurant where 2/3 of diners had their coats on. Must have been understaffed both in front and back of house. Took 15 minutes for drinks and bread and then 25 minutes for entrees. Poor server was overwhelmed and bussers were helping to serve. Main dish was good but potatoes and veggies were cold.
Will go back but not for a while.

Bahr's was really good. Tara our server was excellent. Just two minor things were not so good. First, the twin lobster tails, came out as four tiny tails. No really a big problem, but I would think at almost 50 dollars we should have known of the change to the menu. The real disappointment was the rice pudding. Looked great, was creamy BUT the rice was way under cooked... left most of it. The outside bar was really nice on a beautiful day and we enjoyed Vito's singing. We'll be back

We were seated in the small porch to the right of the main dining room. The ceiling slopes and Is low by the windows
Great views of the bridge and river. Dinner and service were good. But I made a mistake by sitting in this room. At the end was a big party. Several families with children who aged around 8 to 12. Very loud, out of their seats, ear deafening, Not one word was spoken to have them quiet down or stay seated. We ate in silence because we could hear each other.
Try the white sangria - very fruity.

Bahr's is one of the top 5 seafood restaurants in the Monmouth County area, where you have MANY seafood dining options along the Jersey Shore.
Our table was inside in the main dining room next to the large picture windows that overlook the Highlands bridge & Sandy Hook Bay. Only minor issue was that the noise level, due to the many hard surfaces, increased as the room filled up.
Bahr's had it's 100th year in 2017. Quite an accomplishment for a restaurant where most come and go after only a few years. Dine here and you will see why they are so successful!
Will definitely be back again!

If you're in the area or going to Sandy Hook its a great place to end the day.
