Given the cost of the meal it was a disappointment. The sardines were dried out. The bread uninteresting and we had to ask for olive oil. The fish main course was good but not special. And the atmosphere was not comfortable
I have eaten there in the past. And it use to be wonderful
First our waiter tried to upsell even when we told him our aging mother can’t eat too much and brussel sprouts, flank steak and octopus were all charred too much. Especially the brussel sprouts with pancetta. When we complained they just gave us a shrug and didn’t give a hoot. The good looking gentlemen in the front were the only saving grace. Just a tourist trap now.
Service was personable and cool. Loved the table given and acknowledgment of our anniversary.
Food was very good. Just the right portions. Will be back.
As always the food and service were excellent. My wife and I love eating at the bar and chatting with the bartenders who are not only knowledgeable in regard to drinks but also are vey helpful with the menu. My wife and I have been eating at Babbo for years and it never disappoints.
Would highly recommend dining @ Babbo.
Went for lunch with friends... we tried variety of dishes. Beef salad, spaghettini w/lobster, beef cheek ravioli, and several others.
Very friendly, attentive staff.
Will be returning the next time we’re in the city.
Thank you Babbo!
One of the best meals of my life! Amazing all-around!
Babbo remains one of my favorite restaurants, but two things disappointed me on my recent visit. I’m all in favor of relatively informal dining, but when I’m spending $100 per person I don’t want to be seated near a table where one man is wearing a baseball cap, another is wearing a hoodie, and a third arrives in athletic shorts and sneakers. Babbo may be inclined to welcome all the business it can get, but allowing dress like this into your restaurant kills the spirit of the place. It certainly diminished my dining experience. Dining out should not simply be a matter of showing up with enough money to pay for your meal, and whoever welcomes visitors as they enter should be instructed to say so. Surprisingly, the service at our lunchtime meal was erratic. We had to request extra bread three times before it came. Also, my party ordered several dishes to divide, yet no one thought to offer to serve our plates or provide serving utensils for us to manage it ourselves. Babbo is a treasure. The food was as excellent as always, but I hope that management does not let the quality of the dining experience slide.
Amazing food, atmosphere, perfect dinner for a New York City trip
Amazing food, amazing service. Our waiter Joey was spot on with his recommendations. The pappardelle pasta with truffles is a must, the black bass main dish was flavorful and the butternut squash cheesecake was light and bursting with flavor. An excellent way to spend an anniversary dinner.
Mario never disappoints. Excellent food, wine, service and overall experience. Would definitely recommend for any pasta lover.
The restaurant is very noisy, we had to speak very loud. Food hardly acceptable, cannot be considered completely italian. In details: we took bucatini amatriciana and we found inside garlic and persil, two ingredient which don’t belong to the original recipe. Deviations may be ok but not for 26 usd! Staff is nice and polite
Excellent food and service. Terrible music, loud and
We went our 39th anniversary, the sommelier helped choose a great red in our budget, the flavors of each dish were unique and amazing. The mint love letters were snatched away by my wife as I loved the beef cheek ravioli which she ordered. In all a special night
Amazing spectacular dinner and wine and ambiance and service. One of my favorites
Delicious food & wonderful service. Never a miss.
The waitress was just adorable (can't remember her name. Excuse me. She worked on October 1 at one o'clock PM . I thingk she was the only waitress there).
The food was wonderful and rich in flavors.
We were also surprised with a small dish as a present for our wedding.
Romantic Birthday celebration
excellent service and food. Sommelier was especially attentive and helpful.
Excellent pasta tasting menu with wine pairing. Service felt a bit rushed initially, almost dismissive, more relaxed through the middle, and rather slow at the end - could use a more even pace throughout. The dim lighting of the dining room made the tables feel dark - not necessarily a bad thing, depending on preferences or circumstances. Overall good experience.
My husb and I enjoyed our "fine dining experience" at Babbo. We enjoyed the dishes we ordered - fried sardines & brussel sprouts with bacon were spot on. My husband enjoyed his ravioli with beef cheeks as I did my black spaghetti with crab meat. A shared dessert of warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream completed our meal. Service was outstanding. The staff knew their tasks and executed them efficiently and effectively. Babbo is a gem and worthy of a return visit.
Lovely restaurant with great service! We got the chestnut ravioli and it was fabulous! Chickpea starter was also great. I would come here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice date spot, business dinner, or night out with friends.
We liked this place. Good lively joint. Starter and pasta very good. We made poor choices on main course (guinea hen and duck). They were not memorable. Will return and try different entrees. Sommelier was very helpful. Need to turn the music down on lower level. I like lively - not deafening.
This was our second visit to Babbo. The quality of the food has declined. I had the octopus to start and that was amazing, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. However the rest of our meal was disappointing, we had the beef cheek ravioli, lamb chops, and another pasta. It all lacked flavor. Definitely not why I expected.
Such an excellent service and outstanding and memorable food! Really enjoyed our birthday dinner! Thank you!
Food is always consistent. The Arctic char crudo was not good. The prosciutto is superb. Very loud upstairs. Service was excellent. For some reason they will not put olive oil on the table. It’s odd. You have to keep asking for it. Overall still a great place.
From themoment we walked in until the moment we left everything was great. The entire staff was wecoming and friendly. Our server was fantastic and explained the menu wonderfully. They are great with food allergies. The food looked great and tasted even better. There were four of us who had app's and meals and each one fully enjoyed to the point of everyone having to taste each others. The price was definately fair for what was offered between ambiance, service and food. We are certianly going back next time in NYC.
Superb service and food! Prices are high but well worth the experience.
Waiter should have given more attention to the table he was ringing up. He was very kind but at the end of the night he charged me for a $300 dollar meal when my total should have only been about $100. Totally through off my whole weekend as I was short almost $200 that I wasn't planning on being short on
I did extensive research to find an authentic romantic Italian restaurant. I found Babbo recommended on several sites and it did not disappointed. Book well in advance- I booked 10 days ahead and could only get 17:45 although after a travel day it suited us. We arrived early and was quiet but by 18:30 the place was buzzing but in a good way - laughter, conversation and good times. An incredible wine list and very large selection. Server attention was personal and attentive, but at the same time not overbearing. All the dishes we had were delicious and had an authentic look, taste and flavor to it. No, doubt it was expensive but for us it was a special occasion and suited us.
Well worth recommending.
Wonderful!!! Every dish was divine and the service was phenom with a wine list to match!!!
Amazing food, excellent staff, was a very enjoyable evening
The warm lamb's tongue appetizer was spectacular. All the food was beautifully done and tasty, service was terrific. Very minor cons: the restaurant did feel a bit cramped, and as many other reviewers have said, the music was incongruous. But we could still hear each other fine at our table for two upstairs under the beautiful skylight.
I am not sure hoe to describe this wonderful spot! The decor is lovely. The food is outstanding. Our server was great. Our server was knowledgeable and helped us navigate to menu. We ordered 3 pastas and 2 entrees and shared them for a party of 6. We will return here. It was a treat.
Good food and excellent service. A bit pricey but good for a special dinner out occasionally.
We have been many times for lunch when we come and visit , but could never get in for dinner . We did get in this time for a 5:45 pm ( we asked if we can sit at bar instead of table . When we got there they had it all set up at bar . Our bartender a lady and our waitress to was amazing . Great night and great food
As always the food and service was professional and excellent
Babbo used to be a magical place. Exciting food. Luxurious. Now it's just another good NYC Italian restaurant. Crammed into a space so small that we had to sit NEXT to each other rather than across the table. I ended up with a neck ache as I ate my rather ordinary linguini and clams. The service was excellent. So was the coffee. And the desserts were sublime. But something special has slipped away.
Great Italian restaurant with 60s hippie music in the background and way too many servers. And this caused the noise level to be way high. But the food was awesome.
