I have been to Adwah several times and loved the food, attentive service and casual but elegant presentation. This time was not up to par. Service was inattentive - long waits, one appetizer came 10 minutes after the others, they brought the check without asking about dessert even though nobody was waiting for our table Some of the food also wasn’t as delicious - some of the dishes I frequently order were under-spiced - though others were great. Perhaps it was just an off night or there’s a different staff on Sunday’s or maybe it’s a permanent downturn. I hope not and will come back to find out.
Good food, poor service
The place to go for delicious Indian food. Plus the service is great.
I always love coming to Awadh. The food is delicious and it is an oasis of quiet conversation. Thanks to all who make it a great experience.
Extremely friendly staff. The food here is very good. Potion sizes are just right. Cozy atmosphere.
Wonderful food. Beautiful restaurant and excellent service. 1 appetizer, 2 main courses, 1 bread, tax and 20% tip. $61.00
Excellent food and experience
Excellent meal. Thought the food was very well prepared, very tasty. Cost was very reasonable. Unfortunately, they did not have the first beer I ordered or the first dessert I ordered, but overall, it was a superb experience, so I don't think it would be right for that to impact my opinion negatively. I will be returning and I am looking forward to doing so.
Mediocre food; food wasn’t hot; service poor.
Interesting and unusual Indian food, served fresh, very good portions.
The service was fantastic. I have several food allergies and they were creative and accommodating. Food
Was excellent cant wait to eat there again.
Everything was eX elle tue except the kitchen ventilation system - my clothes still smell of curry and frying oil!
The most interesting and delicious Indian food we have eaten in a very long while in NYC!
The food overall is excellent at this Indian restaurant. It had high hopes of being a high end place when it opened a few years ago. It’s now in need of an upgrade, though, in order to justify its higher prices. It’s in no way luxurious. Good food alone won’t do that. But I am happy to have it in my neighborhood because it is the best in the area. There are too many great dishes to list here. I imagine most dishes are great!
Food is great. Really special. But better to order delivery or do take out. Service is never gracious. The host doesn't welcome you...just gives a look of: gotta find a table. And...this is what really puts us off...have had the same waiter on more than one occasion and he likes to run up the bill. We said we wanted an order of rice. He told us the two varieties available...we said which one we wanted and he responded with: "I'll get you one of each." We then had to make sure that, no - we only wanted one order. That is one example but it seems to be his style. The busser spilled a glass of water all over our coats and legs while setting down a platter. The restaurant is quite noisy so on a busy night don't plan on easy conversation. But if you want a lively atmosphere, tasty food, and don't care about aggressive service - then you're good-to-go.
The food is consistently very good, prices are reasonable and in the past service has been ok. But on a recent visit the service was really poor. Very long waits for beverages and food, and even when addressed with staff it still didn't seem to help. It could have been an off night, but still deciding whether to take them off my go to restaurant list..
Amazing food. The lamb chop was exceptional. Perhaps the best I have ever had. The lamb appetizer was also excellent. Delicious mango chutney.
Great food and service.
We love this place and frequent!!!
Outstanding food, but sadly, the ambiance, the furniture, the walls, etc. reeked of age and care. All worn and the servers, while friendly, were tired and as worn out as the furniture, etc. So, go for the food! You will not be disappointed in that.
Amazing food! Very friendly and attentive service.
The aromas that greet you signal it is going to be a great meal. Everything ordered had an outstanding balance of flavor and seasoning. The staff was also very attentive to ensure we we’re satisfied. Yep
Birthday dinner with family - a new tradition on Christmas Eve.
First and foremost, the food was extraordinary. The variety of tastes and textures, the intensity of flavor--just delicious. Service was very good. The space is very attractive but small, which is the only (minor) problem. There is an even smaller second floor that has a balcony opening over the first floor. That's where we were seated. I would have preferred the first floor, but so it goes. It certainly wasn't enough of a problem to keep me from coming back for more of that absolutely scrumptious fare.
My wife & I dined at Awadh and the food here is easily the best when it comes to Indian cuisine in NY city. Outside of India itself, we have always believed the best Indian food was in London and this place compared to the best that London has to offer. The manager here - a chap named Samir Bakshi - is hospitality personified ! He made us feel welcome and was always ready with recommendations & suggestions. The service & the food - from appetizers to desserts - are a class apart !!
Food was incredibly spicy. We ordered Tandoori chicken and grilled lamb chops. Both were covered with an unbearably hot coating. Even Arita w mint was too hot. Disappointed. Has been here before and had a better experience. Waiters were very accommodating and brought us another Raina without mint which was fine. Also substituted a Lola in basmati rice for the one that was too spicy. Have never had spicy tandoori chicken like this. Ordered it to be safe
Delicious food in a small environment right for catching up with a friend.
Outstanding food and service. I can’t wait to go back.
We meet friends and had a wonderful evening. 3 of us had the shrimp curry and one the chicken saag.
All agreed everything was delicious, service was friendly and professional. Our reservation was meet with no wait. Could not recommend this place more. This was my fourth visit and each one was terrific.
A very good casual restaurant. There are two floors and we sat downstairs where there is a bar and seating on each side of the restaurant. It was fine. Many people were going upstairs and I checked it out. Also looked fine but I liked it downstairs.
The food was very good. We had the cauliflower appetizer which was excellent. The fried Okra was very good and the lamb cigars just ok.
For the mains we had lamb shank which was excellent and the coconut Shrimp which was also excellent. (The shrimp was too spicy hot for me but my kids didn’t think so).
Overall, we would definitely return.
Fantastic food with a friendly and attentive staff. Awadh is our go-to restaurant for Thanksgiving - and for everyday dining. Great all-around.
Innovative fresh food. Always a pleasure. Hard to imagine what could make it better except if they stopped innovating . . . Maybe prewarm the plates?
Wonderful service, and a very fine Biryani. It's been quite a while since I was last here--too long. Awadh is a very fine experience. I won't wait so long again before the next time.
Great food. Our go to place. Staff are pleasant and accommodating
Our first visit to this Upper West Side Indian. Near Symphony Space, which is a real plus. Service was excellent and discreet. the menu is more limited than most local Indian restaurants, which might be a good thing because more attention can be paid to the dishes individually. Regarding our two dishes, a chicken dish was excellent and with the right level of spice. A lamb Biryani was tasty and also well seasoned, however, the lamb could have been trimmed better; we had to cut off some fat and gristle. There were also fewer bread choices that one has come to expect, but enough to make a selection. We will certainly be back.
we were a party of 6. the waiter was terrific (though they put an automatic 20% tip)
food was fabulous. I have been to India. this was definitely interesting and authentic.
absolutely want to come back again and again.
Great food but service was lacking and they up charge you for everything - including the rice and chutney appetizer that normally come with your dishes
really slow service but to wait 20 min to have any order taken, then over 1 hour for appetizers to arrive is not acceptable. Usually we are rushed. the food made up for the bad service but no apologies were made not any accommodation..
Food has fantastic taste --- superb! Service was great. At one point, it became a little smoky in the restaurant and my eyes began to water -- but worth it for the food.
Our experience at Awadh was very pleasant. The food and the service were excellent and we look forward to another dinner at Awadh!
