Aubergine is an intimate space, with high ceilings, beautiful lights and simple, elegant decor which allows the product of creative and interesting food to shine. The food style is contemporary, however there is always a classic background to our ideas. The kitchen is supplied by local farmers and benchmark suppliers that understand that rather than we tell them what we need we prefer for them to tell us what produce is at its best on the day. In turn that means that our menu is updated daily. Our wine list has won numerous awards and has over 500 labels of interesting and classic wines. It shows the same philosophy of using local and smaller growers that produce interesting wines for us to get excited about.

Aubergine Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointing. Service was very amateurish. Had to grab a waiter so we could order wine (this some 20 minutes after arriving). The person who took our wine order admitted to being new and to knowing nothing of what is an excellent wine list. Later it was only the quick action of one of the diners that prevented the waiter topping up a glass of white wine from a bottle of red. There was an extremely long wait to order & then have dessert served, about 1 hour in total. We were informed, this was caused by the presence of a large table of diners in the restaurant. In a two hatted restaurant claiming to be Canberra’s finest, this level of service is unacceptable. The food was very patchy in quality, some courses were excellent (the appetisers & 1st course), some average and a couple were very uninspiring. As far as the environment was concerned, the air conditioning struggled to cope with a full restaurant meaning we felt too hot for most of the night. We were left somewhat bemused that this establishment boasts two hats when so many frankly superior establishments don’t even rank one hat.
I had a fabulous birthday meal, not knowing quite what to expect from each course; they had a set 4 course menu , where you would select a dish from a number of choices on the menu, at first that seemed enforced but in fact it added to the quality of the experience as you stepped through from start to finish....all the dishes worked really well and were just right. My partner is a vegetarian to see the creativity and celebration of the veg was a joy . Each course had an element of surprise not quite knowing what to expect which added to the tantalising taste each dish had to offer. Eating at Aubergine was a memorable experience; I recommend at least the standard wine pairing, ( if you enjoy both food and wine ) where the sommeliers shared the food journey with the wine companionship , taking the time to explain their choice. The note I ended on was the burnt butter ice cream and milk infused lemon myrtle a sensational creation leaving a lasting impression and longing to have some more ...
My husband and I loved Aubergine. The room provides a warm, cleverly lit atmosphere and is not too noisy ( something hard to find these days!).
The food was delicious and we enjoyed the fact that it was not 'overworked'..... clever combinations of interesting, tasty ingredients. ( tho my husband would have liked more salt). The accompanying wines were well chosen and complimented our food choices. Excellent explanations/descriptions by the sommelier. Service was attentive, efficient and friendly. Definitely recommend Aubergine.
I hadn't been to the restaurant for about three years, and the price has risen.
I did enjoy the food as I did in the past. I had the pork as the third course, but it would have been better for me with less fat. Portion of each dish was just adequate. I would go again should there be an opportunity.
I took my husband here for his birthday. We asked for a quiet table as we both have hearing issues and they accommodated this request very well.
We added the matching premium wines to the four courses. These were really interesting and added to our overall experience. The Sommelier was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking to him.
We couldn't fault the service, it was outstanding. The presentation and quality of the food was first class. The highlight for me was the Brown Butter icecream dessert - to die for!
I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or an intimate dinner for two.
Beautiful food and fabulous service. We went there for our anniversary and it was lovely. We were there for over 3 hours but the time flew! It's a bit expensive but worth it, especially for a special occasion. The food is high quality and the presentation is gorgeous. After four (five including the delicious nibblies they give you before the entree arrives) you won't leave hungry. I got the matched wines, they were beautifully paired with each course and I was able to try wine that I wouldn't normally pick. The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and told the story behind each choice of wine and why he felt it would match each dish. Overall it was a lovely night and I hope to dine there again in the future.
Wonderful experience, warm friendly service, premium wine pairing was stunning and dishes presented were sublime, even on a Wed night restaurant being full was testimony to the quality of cuisine Aubergine offers.
Only criticism was the ambience, with many many conversations being had was rather intrusive, while walls had been softened, ceiling was bare, overhead baffling would have helped reduced the noise level, this is however, a small criticism as everything else far exceeded expectations, highly recommended.
Perfect in every way. Exquisite food backed up with faultless, friendly and professional service delivered by people who really appear to love their work.
The 'compulsory ' first course featuring cured albacore was judged by all in our party of 5 as possibly the best dish ever. Between us we were lucky enough to taste nearly everything on the menu and there were no chinks in the armour .
The matching wines were exactly thst and delivered by a Sommelier who really knows his stuff.
We traveled down from the Gold Coast for the occasion and would definitely love to return when back in Canberra.
The food was amazing, the canapés as the starters were incredible so much flavour. Great value for money for 4 quality courses, our waiter was very knowledgeable with the wine list and the ingredients in each dish even telling us what area the ingredients were from he chose a wonderful wine for us that was very well priced. The venue is small and intimate which is great for a couple to have a nice meal together as a rare date.
Wow Wow Wow!! What a spectacular dining experience. The restaurant has a very intimate setting with perfect space between the tables so you feel like you are having your own private dinner. The service was impeccable, the food was divine and the selection of matching wines was an absolute treat. Thank you to everyone for making my birthday dinner so memorable. We look forward to dining with you again. Just Fabulous!! Cheers! Francene
It is a location for fine dinning. We did degustation 5 course. Every course was delious. It is big plates little food place and every mouthful is interesting and full of flavour. I tried some food for the first time. The wine list is massive with local options.
