Owner and managing partner, Monica Saxena, envisioned aRoqa to be a celebration of diversity and culture, merging Indian flavors with a global palate and cocktail culture. aRoqa’s menu unites diverse flavors inspired by its name: in India, a “roka” ceremony is where friends and family come together to enjoy the engagement of a couple and celebrate by sharing a meal.
At aRoqa, Chef Manni and head mixologist Prasad have created a unique marriage of cuisine and cocktails in a chic, sophisticated setting, to create an elevated experience, focusing on small plates with Indian flavors.
Only dining option was outdoor so that is what we did. There was plexiglass between tables which was good . Waiter was very attentive. Appetizers the kebab, 2 types of chicken and the bhel chaat were all good . As were the biryani, chicken tikka masala, daal and okra in the main course. Cocktails were all delicious. Overall a very enjoyable meal.
The food is exceptional. I can’t wait to go back.
One of the best, tastiest Indian food I've had in NYC. The waiter was very nice to us and the food just delicious. I had a chicken fenugreek and the sauce was wonderful and the chicken in very nice little chunks- not too much, not too little. My girlfriend had shrimp in a coconut curry and it was also very good. We split mushroom croquettes for appetizers and the only downside was that there wasn't more of it. A little bit pricey but so worth it. I definitely want to go back there and will recommend it to others. Bravo.
Excellent food with great service at a reasonable price for the area. Highly recommend to any Indian food lover! Must go back!!
Last minute birthday dinner because of rain on Saturday and no indoor seating. Easily some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The service was awesome. The location is a 15 minute walk away from both the highline and Hudson River park/Chelsea piers so we got to go on a nice walk after.
Very good experience, amazing food
Excellent food and service
The food here was excellent as was the service. However, I don’t think I’ve encountered a restaurant as stingy with their portions yet overpriced to the max ever in New York. $14 for 4 little florets of fried cauliflower. No bueno. The place was lovely, but I will not be returning as there are countless Indian restaurants In NYC with amazing food at a much more reasonable price point.
Amazing food and great service! Been there 10 times already and we have never been disappointed.
Lively and delicious and really fun.
We keep coming back and are always happy.
Everything great. Just wish you'd play your music lower and something more fitting to the
ambience and not that pounding music. Otherwise, all was excellent. Maybe it can be shut
off in the back room.
The atmosphere is calm and matches the dark colors and black themes across the dining room. The wait staff was very friendly, patient and exited to answer any questions concerning the menu. The food was excellent and the portions were perfect. I look forward to enjoying an evening out at aRoqa again.
Table was ready, too close to other tables. Kitchen was very very slow. We were almost 4 diners in the restaurant, came early, and entrees took almost 45 mins to be served. Food quality was very good. Didn't stay for dessert.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, we will be back!
The food was fresh and good, not great. It was around the corner, so it was easy, but I wouldn't go out of my way. The wine menu was very small and expensive.
Comfortable and delicious. Perfect spot to escape the chaos!
Amazing food. More than just traditional Indian cuisine. Will definitely be back!
Made res for 3 people for Valentine’s Day. Originally told only have tables for 2 but then accommodated with high top for 3 by the window. Was a fabulous evening!
It was absolutely perfect. Incredible food with great ambiance
Appetizers were served within a couple of minutes of ordering and were almost cold, like they were prepared ahead of time. The entree and bread was good. Disappointed that they were out of a couple of menu items we were hoping to taste. Eventually the service took a back seat with having to wait 20 minutes to just get the check.
Great food ... great service! The ambiance was welcoming and romantic! The food was truly authentic
So many issues here:
1) I do not appreciate being told by a rather rude hostess that we had only 90 minutes to dine (we had a reservation)--I have never been told that in a Manhattan restaurant unless there were specific seatings.
2) there's a minimal wine list with nothing I would drink
3) I ordered a Manhattan cocktail and asked for it to be not very sweet and on the rocks. It arrived without out and was revoltingly sweet
4) my friend ordered a mango lhassi which was undrinkable
4) the appetizers were beautifully served by rather bland--they looked innovative but really were not
5) we were not halfway through the appetizers when we were brought the two main courses! (Nothing like being rushed.) We said we weren't ready and recieved a rather huffy response
6) I lived on the Indian subcontinent for 5 years and I know and appreciate good Indian food. The main courses tasted like someone had emptied a full salt container into them--you couldn't taste any spices, just salt!
The restaurant is obviously popular and maybe we hit an off night. That said, I'll never return to a place where I am told that my dining time is limited. That kind of rudeness does not exist in India and I was shocked that it exists in an Indian restaurant in NYC. They really should be embarrassed (but I suppose not).
We visited this restaurant on Valentine’s Day. We had reserved our table at 6. During the reservation process it was mentioned to us that there is a time limit on 90 minutes. This was very annoying as the owner mentioned this every time we called. Once we reached 15 minutes later she mentioned again that we lost 15 minutes out of our 90 minutes limit. To our surprise there were empty tables. When we were done with our 90 minutes limit half of the restaurant was empty. This gave us a very sad experience and the drinks where let down. To top up our bad experience, desert was super bad. I would not visit or recommend this restaurant again. And it was cold inside... I saw most of them wearing theirs coats.. Such a shame..
The food is very good and the service is excellent!
The music was a little loud and disco-style .. not exactly what I like in a ethnic restaurant; but excluding the noise and music, the experience was very good.
What I loved the most, being a consultant for the restaurant business, it was the welcome: the waiter that was a nice guy, very attentive, he knew my name and gave me a good table, always keeping an eye on my needs (water, drinks, snacks) in the waiting of my husband.
Another note is to work a little on the wine selection, not really attractive, basic and a little cheap. We preferred to have water (unusual thing for us).
We live in the neighborhood and for sure they will see again our face :)
Outstanding Indian food. Great value! Definitely going again! The tamarind coconut shrimp is amazing!
The food was very delicious and not your typical Indian fare. It was very unique and quite different than most other restaurants I’ve been to. The atmosphere was lovely and peaceful. Service was great. Overall a totally enjoyable experience. A must repeat.
Food was fair, server was GREAT. We were in the restaurant for approx 90 minutes, the same song played on repeat the entire time. Not kidding.
Best Indian restaurant in nyc
Absolutely phenomenal food and experience
The food was not like the Indian food I am used to but it was tasty. The chicken was a bit tough though. The wait staff was not that organized but the service was OK.
If I go back, I’ll try to go when it’s not so busy.
Meanie and Sebastien are always welcoming and friendly. Drinks were great. The Fenugreek Murgh and Tikka Masala were fantastic. The Kurkuri Bhel is amazing.
No heating, was chilling inside the restaurant. Otherwise good food and good drinks.
I'm usually not a fan of Indian food but this food was FANTASTIC!!! It really caters to most palads.
Aroqa has become our go-to for Inďian food. We've tried many dishes and have yet to be disappointed.
This was my 2nd time at aRoqua. Their food is excellent, consistently delicious and well plated, a cut above most Indian Restaurants I have gone to (and I have been to many in NYC, where I live, as well as London, etc. Their classic dishes are delicious and the menu includes many more innovative takes on classics, including vegetarian and seafood options. Their naan is perfectly cooked. They have a great drink menu and a very pretty and cool, small, hip restaurant ambiance. However, the service has been off both times we have gone. The first time mildly inattentive and a bit odd, the 2nd time also inattentive, with mistakes (items not brought, an appetizer that came after the main course, not asking if we want a drink or any food until we were sat for 15 minutes when the restaurant wasn't busy) . But the reason we might not go back, despite it being around the corner from our home, is that they literally started cleaning up, mopping with ammonia, turning up the lights and off the music and doing dishes, dumping ice in the bar at 10:15pm when we were still finishing our main dish. While this was after "closing time" we had a 9pm reservation and I think they should have waited until we at least had our check or let us know they needed to close instead of cleaning up around us! (there were still at least 4 other tables dining). I would like to try again as the food and menu are so great....and I hope for better service.
I was very excited for my trip to aroqa, it had been on my list for a while. We were seated immediately, they didn’t give us water or a menu for about 10 minutes and the waitress walked past us multiple times. My husband ordered a scotch and it took about 15 minutes while my wine came out very quickly. The food was absolutely below average, paneer tikka tasted like it was taken out of a ready to go packed and squeezed onto a plate. Sunchoke chaat and gobi Manchurian were very average. Could make a better Indian meal at home, highly highly disappointing!!
Decent food, attentive service (but at times excessively asking how things are), nice decor but a bit dark inside. I’d come back to try more dishes!
Fabulous! Can’t wait to come again
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, each of the 4 at our table ordering a diff entry sauced dish. All was delicious. Excellent wine choices and fun mixed drinks. Swanky Indian food like this is hard to find. The service was also excellent.
Dosa was delicious
